Salt is a great conductant. it was my high school science project. I had a battery with open ended wires leading into a plastic container. Then put 2 more open ended wires that were connected to a light bulb on the other side of the plastic container. Filled it with water, connected wires to the battery, and slowly sprinkled salt into the water. It was so cool to see how the light bulb slowly started to flicker as more salt poured in, then turned on completely. I can tell you got this down pretty well now. So how do you have 2 colors of hickory? I live in southern Cali and it is so darn hard to find. None of the lumberyards have it. I really liked the design on this one. Natives fighting invaders. Actually looks like a one-sided battle to me. Some natives are already celebrating and that conquistador is about to get shanked. Anyways nice job. If I can finally get all the materials I can try my own.

Turned out nice though several things done wrong in my opinion. Glued the head on along with small separate wedges and with the use of poly on the handle instead of Blo *Boiled Linseed Oil* or some form of oil.Oil will help expand the kerf of the handle inserted into the head and preserve the wood. By applying polyurethane you are not allowing the wood to breath and will become brittle in time.

How durable is that style of handle?
@BMSculptures5 жыл бұрын
I have a full 1/8" steel tang running throughout the entire handle. So I would imagine it is even stronger than a solid wood handle. I did not test this axe, however I did test the previous one i built the same way and it held up fantastic. You can check out the other video on my page.

I watched the other, thats how i got here first. It seems like its good idea. Might have to test the theory on a hammer handle or something. Thanks man. Good work

@@johnnyvoodoo666 test it out! The only part that I would imagine being weaker is the wood inlay pieces that do not have a rivet in them. " Battle axe " ? Do you not know what a double bit felling axe is ? More specifically this would be a Humboldt pattern that was originally bred for use on California's giant Sequoia trees, this is a pre 1960's example. If it was broken and had to be welded back together that's one thing but this was still a good axe that many people I know would have put back in service processing wood. Your workmanship is good, but maybe you should leave old axes alone because there are some desirable and valuable ones that you might unknowingly destroy. Harbor freight and home Depot axes are pretty cheap and you won't have as much sanding to go through with one of these brand new axes. What better axe to make into a decorative piece than something that's worthless as an actual tool anyways.

@@TylerSnyder305 I guess this is one of those we can agree to disagree. The old axe was clearly not being used, and most people aren't going to pay for a restored axe. If this guy didn't buy it and make it an art piece, it would probably be in a scrap heap.
