Going back to my roots, restoring a rusty old cleaver I've found in the ruins of my grandmother's house.
The cleaver was forged by a local blacksmith from an old plow blade folded on itself to form the handle.
Not a true restoration, since I've reshaped the cleaver, I know.
For the handle I've turned a nice piece of black ebony wood.

00:36 Reshaping the cleaver
05:41 Making the handle
11:48 Finishing the blade
16:26 Fitting the handle

So you made a knie out of a plow blade chopper that you found at your grandmother's... This isn't a restoration as you didn’t restore, you made a completely different type of knife out of it...

Yeah was pretty disappointed when the first thing he did was remove everything that gave it character and ruined the story it had. Why not start with a blank piece of steel? It would of been less work and would of left this as a cool knife.

Thank you! It was inspired by an antique french jeweler's anvil. The original was even better looking, with intricate details in the wood base.

Shame you changed it, because... this used to be identical as one that my grandma had, which means there's more than one out there and that gave it some story.

I Think it’s a shame that you change the geometry of the cleaver, and that handle just isn’t right for a cleaver, not even for knife blade. You could see that it already had a small crack at the end where you forced the steel into the handle, only held together by the copper ring. It’s nice to look at, but not very useful at all.

Why do you remove the side pannel on the belt sander ? And why do you have 2 belt sander ? (just curious for both)
@TheSmallWorkshop
@TheSmallWorkshop 21 күн бұрын
I remove the sides for ease of belt changes. And it allows better positioning of the part around the belt. And I have 2 sanders because I had trouble finding spare belts for the one with 3 rollers. But I'm not happy with either of them and plan to build a custom one in the future.
