I live in rural PA, been running on the Mofi since mid-2019. I use two external antennas crossed on the X & Y planes. I 'lucked' into an unlimited/unthrottled Verizon pay as you go data plan a month or two before they discontinued it. Prior to the Mofi cellular coverage here was dependent on which square foot you where standing in. The external antennas have provided upwards of 45 down/15 up. Only hardwire service available in the area is DSL providing about 1.5 down. For the most part this setup serves all the technical needs of an IT Dad, two teens, and my wife. When we go on vacation it's the last accessory to get loaded up! Jerry - Be sure to scan the bands and lock in the best channel on the Mofi... You'll be glad you did!

Very good and informative video. Very helpful to anyone looking for a hotspot for their RV. Last year, I bought a NETGEAR Nighthawk and an external antenna. Hi Robert. I had an antenna that I used with a cradle WeBoost. It was a single feed and not set up for the twin diverse feeds required by the MoFi. Bottom line, it didn't work. I'm using the MoFi now in the north Georgia mountains. Couldn't be happier with the performance. Using the paddle antennas, I have 32Mb download and 35Mb uploads. The ability to pick the best performing channels has been a bigger benefit than expected. I'll go the outdoor antenna at some time in the future. For now, if the indoor antennas continue to work well. Will continue to use until something else is needed. Safe travels.

Jerry, great video as usual. I think the unit you reviewed will not tether correct? While I do want a unit with a cell modem, I also want a unit I can tether to a T-Mobile mifi. The terms restrict the sim to staying in the mifi and the plan is very, very good. If I am correct that this device does not tether, did you research any good devices that do ? I also was looking at the wifi ranger, but I am hearing it has issues with some of the carriers on the cellular side. I do like that the ranger will take wifi and tether as internet sources.
@iLoveRVlife3 жыл бұрын
According to the manual it will tether. It uses the phone cell radio and you get the router function of the MoFi.

@@iLoveRVlife Thanks Jerry, I will take a look. I want a good cellular modem to handle another data plan sim for backup (say att) and to be the center of lan, but this grandfathered mifi on the sprint/tmobile network will take a majority of the load when in range. @iLoveRVlife3 жыл бұрын
Hi Art. Thanks so much. So far the performance of the MoFi has been better than expected. We just returned from the mountains and had over 30Gb up and down. One of the big benefits is the ability to search for active channels for the cell carrier, then use a channel that offers the best throughput. We started with channel set for auto and saw less than 8GB. Doing the search, moving to another channel gave us the higher throughput. This feature typically isn’t found with standard hotspot. Wish I could help on the campground. We haven’t stayed in the area with an RV. Safe travels.

The is the first step, but with an over 200% improvement in download alone, this is a biggie. Plus enhancement to add our hardwired devices a benefit. Next is the external antenna. When areas are remote, this is a better solution than a booster. Stay tuned.
