Opportunity to improve our tires yet again :) what a way to reframe it
@hydrodiesel7 жыл бұрын
Hello Folks, very good idea to have 2 spares. We keep 1 on the back bumper, and 1 under the forward bed. "Usually" they wear out from the sun / weather. We keep covers on the tires when stored, AND, store the trailer wheels on top of a 3/8" plywood. A 4'X8' piece cut longways makes for 2 runners, for both tires. Another thing to consider (I know, another thing to store) is one of those units you back up the good tire onto, and it raises the bad tire for replacing. The jack is no longer needed. A real time saver ! Great videos. Your children will never forget those adventures ! Happy trails to you !
@KeepYourDaydream7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the second spare came in handy on our last flat in Toronto. Didn't pass a Discount until a month later. Luckly, no flats since then. I've seem the rapid jack. Good idea.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! FUN FUN FUN!!!! * bounces around happily * I LOVED seeing all of the fun activities that you got to do...wakeboarding and waterskiing, both of which I have never tried but have always wanted to. ROCKIN AWESOME stuff!! I would SO LOVE to try that out!! :) Very cool that you found such a posh place to hang out for a month, what a gorgeous location, you lucky duckies!! The start of the episode with the flat was such a bummer for you guys, but on the other hand, Steve was sitting here so I could tell him more about your videos and how valuable they are to watch. It's not like you've been down this road a thousand times, and that in itself is so valuable. Steve will be checking the episodes out too, which makes me happy, because you guys impart lots of super information, as well as ample airtime for me to cackle wildly at Marc...oh, did I say that? Oops! :D Back to the tire, it was great to see that it only took 15 minutes to change the tire for your second attempt. WELL DONE! (BTW it so totally sucked that you had to pay for the toll road and then you got a flat. I remember that about the Chicago area, lots of toll roads there, it's so odd!) I also think it's very cool that you have and office and work set up for the month, I am crossing my fingers that everything works out profitably for you guys. BTW, there is a possibility that we may be getting a truck and trailer earlier than we anticipated--which makes it all the more useful for Steve to check out your videos! :) We'll keep you up to date on that...Steve is finding extremely nice used dually trucks and toy-hauler trailers that add up to about $30k, so we'll have to see what happens in the next few months. :) Loved the jumping in the water part...lol...AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH SO COLD!!! :D I should find you the videos of me sliding down a natural rock slide into a lovely pool of water, and it's SO FREAKIN' COLD!!! But lol, I ran around, climbed up to the top and did it two more times because it was so much fun! Who cares if I was turning blue! FUN TRUMPS TURNING BLUE! :D :D GREAT job on the super show, I sat here eating it up and having a wonderful time getting to be part of your adventure! :) P.S. Marc, you mentioned back a couple of episodes that you Maddie does walk up the trailer stairs. Uh huh...I'm stilllllllllllll waitin'. Personally, I think you're fibbing...Maddie will only walk up the stairs if it's a chick asking! :D :D :D Perhaps you might consider a dress for the next attempt? :D :D

You're right. She's always been a water dog... when she was a pup, she would push us out of the way when washing our face. But I agree... the water probably feels great on your achy joints. She looks good, but she's a skeleton now. 80 pounds at peak. Now only 54 pounds. But enjoying RV Life :)

I can 100% sympathize about tolls vs road conditions. I rode my Harley through that part of the country in 2009 and got pretty tired of stopping to pay tolls for roads I'd have to slalom through. That being said, great videos!

@KeepYourDaydream8 жыл бұрын
Yes, I'm a big fan of ours. Mostly because I don't have to check all the time anymore... and I don't get paranoid while driving when the trailer doesn't feel right due to pavement. The one I bought doesn't reach the cab very well. I should have read more reviews about the distance. From your profile pic, looks like you have a 5er.
@volfan1nga8 жыл бұрын
Yes. we currently have a Voltage V3950. It has a pretty standard toy hauler layout: front bedroom, kitchen/living room in the center and garage/back bedroom in the back. We are upgrading next year to a Momentum 376TH which has a FRONT formal living room with TWO full size sofas and a love seat, a huge kitchen/dining area in the middle and a rear master bedroom. The garage is BELOW the bedroom. Can't wait though to become full timers.

We must have had very good tires on our T.T. We only had one flat on our truck. I found a bolt in it. I have heard of people having a lot of flats on their camper. They ended up buying a lot better tires. You were very lucky not to have done a lot of damage to your camper. I seen pictures were it messed up camps with he flat tire. I would always watch my weight. You said that your tanks were full. Can't wait to see your next Vlog.
@KeepYourDaydream8 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Yes, I think the 8ply 60psi tires that came with the T.T. are garbage, but I'm sure we carry too much weight (even though we're in the limits) and drive too fast. The new tires have been fine - so far. One more flat to go before they all got replaced! I guess I was optimistic or didn't want to spend $$

Thanks for the comment Hugh. I bought a TPMS in Michigan (next video), but our third flat Lol (in Toronto) the TPMS didn't help. To lessen the wear and tear on the trailer try to get into the habit of draining all tanks before long trips. If your going to be boondocking just fill the freshwater right before your destination. The truck will thank you too! ;) Those pounds add up.
@KeepYourDaydream8 жыл бұрын
Yes, that's a good suggestion. That was how we started, but finding can be difficult and on too many occasions, we ended up at a Walmart. So we just started carrying half full on drive days to have option.

I blew out two tires in the first 1000 miles on my camper. My best friend owns a tire store in Texas. He talked me into putting a Firestone LT truck tires on my camper instead of ST trailer tires. That was three years ago and we haven't had a signal problem, and we have pulled our camper all over the southern state during the heat of the summer. If I ever buy a new camper again, the first thing I will do is put LT's on again.
@KeepYourDaydream8 жыл бұрын
Couldn't agree more. Did you already have a 16" rim or did you replace the wheels too? I couldn't find LT tires for a 15" wheel. The ST 10ply tires have been good, but 8 ply just isn't good enough from 9k lbs or continuous 60-70mph. Thanks for the comment.

@269adventures8 жыл бұрын
The tire problem is prably from driving to fast and they put cheap tires on them to get them rolling out the factory. Never drive over 65 pulling the trailer, better off even slower, they blowing cause their heating up, trailer tire's are smaller then your truck tire's, so they'll heat up faster, also if it's a real hot day let a little air out of the tire's so they can expand some from the heat. I've had my motor home go up in ten pounds of pressure from the heat of driving down the road. Also another good thing you might want to get done and keep and eye on is your axle grease, get those trailer bearing repacked, lot of ppl have bearings go out cause they don't keep them greased. They have wheel bearing caps with a grease nozzle in them so you can grease them regularly, you don't want your bearings to fail on the road, that will not be an easy fix. Good luck and enjoy Michigan, it's my home 👍🏼
@KeepYourDaydream8 жыл бұрын
I think you're right. Yes, the tires are crap, but I do drive too fast. I've since slowed down to 60. With that being said, the 10 ply tires haven't had any issues. Thanks for the comment though. I've learned a lot in YT comments.

@BlackWolf-F-3508 жыл бұрын
+Keep Your Daydream I'm looking to replace mine before they go...seems some have higher speed rating. 10 ply is good! What brand are you using? My biggest concern is the Arizona heat being a Phoenician.
@KeepYourDaydream8 жыл бұрын
This is what I replaced the OEM tires with. So far - zero issues and the first one was replaced on DAY 1! It's 10 ply radial that is 80psi. I'll have to check the speed rating, but 65 is plenty fast when towing. www.discounttire.com/dtcs/findTireDetail.do?ra=searchTrailerTiresBySize.do&fl=t&tc=HRTTT1&c=0&rcz=85255&pc=29485&ar=75&rf=true&rd=15&rc=AZDINT&cs=225

When I click the discount tire link in your previous comment nothing comes up on the site.

Good to know. The link changed and I should have updating on this video. I'll do that next. Here is the new link. Keep in mind, I would get even better tires if I had a 16" rim. This is the best I can get for a 15" rim. With that being said, I've no issues with these tires with a 9k load and 25miles all over N. America. www.discounttire.com/buy-tires/hartland-st-radial/p/29485

As for "cleanses" .... being from the Great White North I've swam in glacial lakes including Lake Louise. Granted that was nearly 50 years ago, but I still enjoy a cold dip now and then. On my first date with Yoly, I took her to the Colorado River to a place called Black Canyon which is directly below Hoover Dam. The water that is released there comes from about 200 feet below the surface and typically runs between 52 to 54 degrees year round. I jumped off the bow of the boat and stayed under for a brief moment. As I surfaced, treading water, I told Yoly to just jump in ... "the water's fine" :-) She jumped in and I don't know how she did it but she came out of the water like a porpoise about 6 feet in the air and landed back in the boat. She didn't kill me so I married her :-)

Lol. Being from AZ... we know Black Canyon well. I've been to Lake Powell over 30 times. Beautiful. Lake Tahoe is another great place for a cleanse. :)
@TravelswithYoly8 жыл бұрын
OK, now I'm jealous .... I've been to Lake Powell three times (twice towing a boat from Georgia). I'm hoping you saw the Lake Powell category on our channel :-) I know every inch of the Colorado from Hite on Powell to Blythe. Spent a lot of time at Temple Bar on Mead and Willow Beach on Lake Mojave. We used to put in at Topock and cruise down to Havasu. I've boated from Temple Bar up river into Grand Canyon NP camping on the sand bars. We used to climb the cliffs along the shoreline on Powell and wait for the schools of huge carp to swim by .... we'd dive in and try to catch them by hand. Again, fond memories :-) Oh yeah, I was living in So Cal for most of this :-)

That is SO Illinois/Indiana to pay for toll roads every few miles, yet the roads are in outrageously poor condition with giant potholes and weeds growing out from the cracks in the middle of the frwy. Not at all like our beautiful, manicured, decorated, and FREE Phoenix freeways. New gratitude, right?

If you thought Illinois roads were bad a year ago! They are even worse this year and now the new governor wants to turn the freeways into tollways. That's why we are getting out and full time rv at end of year!!

Hello guys. I can't help but wonder about your tire misfortune; not that I'm in any way a tire expert, but I have had many trailers, and campers. Might I suggest that you check out the weight you are placing on the wheels as well as vigilantly checking the pressure in each tire. They both cause premature tire expiration. And uneven weight distribution places uneven weight strain on a tire. Another (though less likely due to the random location of tire blows) possibility is that the axles get bent permanently, or even simply bowed to effect a toe-in/out, or camber effect on the tires and wheels. This too causes premature tire expiration. The bent or bowed axles occurs from issues such as too much weight for the rating of the axles to hitting potholes too hard, too fast, with, or without weight on the tires. From my experience, camper axles seem to be, more often now, simply rolled up flat steel press seamed length wise. This works fine as an axle, but not so much when we (humans) fail to load distibute within the axle weight ratings. Well, I just wanted to share these thoughts with you. These have all been issues that I discovered only after experiencing many tire failures, ruining my family adventures to some degree. I don't wish this to negatively affect anyone else's family time. Travel safe.

I agree with your comments. We are heavy at 9,200 lbs, but the max capacity is 10,900. None of the new 10ply tires have had an issue. Not even the one replace 8k miles ago in the first video. Yet, 3 of the 4 original tires blew. I didn't wait for the 4th one and just put 2 on the bumper for a spare. If one of the new tires blows... I will def be looking into if something is wrong. I did buy a TPMS and ensure all the pressure is correct all the time. I also think I drive to fast (or did). I pretty much go 60 now. Thanks for the comment.

We've had several rv's and generally the tires they put on rv's are junk and are not rated for the weight.
@almetcalf7 жыл бұрын
Linda Calderon That's what I have learned as well, most manufacturers put junk tires on these not meant to be driven more than around the parking lot. I just don't get it!?

Seriously get some over rated tires...Like 12 or more ply. Gladiator tires are a good option for the price.
@KeepYourDaydream8 жыл бұрын
I hear you. Wish I could! I bought the best possible tire for a 15" wheel. LT tires start at 16". Knock on wood, haven't had a single issue with the new 10 ply 80psi tires and the initial one bought in AZ now has 8k miles on it. They seem to be working. Had I known we this was going to work out so well, I would have upgraded my truck to a 350 and bought a 5th wheel. At the same time, we believe going NOW with what you have is still better going LATER with what you want :)
@BTBRVReviews8 жыл бұрын
+Keep Your Daydream I would highly suggest this tire: (www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?message=singleSize&tireMake=Goodyear&tireModel=Cargo+G26&width=225%2F&ratio=70&diameter=15&partnum=27R5G26). That is the tire we put on our Travel Trailer and it is a REALLY solid tire. It is a Commercial grade D rated tire. So it may not be E rated, but it will last much longer and be much stronger. Take a look at the Coachmen Chaparral Lite series of fifth wheel. 1/2ton towable and have some really great floor plans at a really great price.
@KeepYourDaydream8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the specific rec. Will check out Coachmen for the next rig, but weight won't be my primary concern anymore. A F350 is in my future. Solid truck with good resale.

Yes, it did take a long time to prepare for a trip like this and there are plenty of ups and downs, but overall its worth the sacrifice. If you can't go on a long trip, you could make a checklist of destinations within a day or two of your home and hit all the places over a year. Creating purpose in travel helps make it even more meaningful.

Could you save data by using a gps instead of google maps?
@KeepYourDaydream7 жыл бұрын
I think so... I've heard mixed data on how much data Google maps uses. However, you could download a city to your phone via Wifi and then not use data at all. We moved to Verizon unlimited and now don't worry about data. Pretty nice. Cheaper than the 5 phones sharing 40G.

Invest on all of your tires because your lifes and assets are riding on them. I buy 10-ply Load "E" tires on my truck and my trailers. Don't ever go with cheap ones. And don't buy Chinese made tires. Buy American made tires. Remember Load "E" 10-ply tires.
@KeepYourDaydream8 жыл бұрын
That's exactly what I've been replacing them with. 10 ply E rated. Haven't had an issue with the replacements yet! I agree on the importance. Not to mention the damage.
