For those of you who are still looking to purchase a Blackstone grill. Walmart is starting their Black Friday sales on Nov 3rd. There is a Blackstone grill with a carrying case for $122. When we looked over the summer there was an electric Blackstone also. Just a smaller size.

Hi, my husband and I camp for 4-7 days at a time, not full timers, so our cooking style is slightly different. In our sticks and bricks home, the week before our trip, I will prepare a veggie lasagna, turkey or beef meatballs , a meatloaf or stuffed red bell peppers and then portion them into containers and freeze for camp meals. A few times, I baked chicken and froze it in portions. I place all frozen items in the RV freezer with a few packages of frozen vegetables. I may place 2 frozen meal portions in the RV fridge on travel day. The frozen food will keep items in the fridge cold during travel when the fridge power is off. At camp, I can microwave the precooked meals for an easy dinner. I have also precooked pasta and rice and placed cooked portions in bags which I froze and then packed in the RV freezer. The pasta or rice could be added to a camp meal with a meat and vegetable selection. Pre cooking speeds up meal prep at campsite, which is helpful if you have hungry children or companions to feed. Also, one less pan to wash. Fresh salad greens, tomatoes, carrots are also in our fridge. Breakfast may be Greek yogurt, fresh or thawed, frozen blueberries and muesli cereal. My husband will cook one breakfast in the great outdoors, weather permitting. This consists of bacon, onions, home fries and scrambled eggs. He has cooked on a BLACKSTONE grill on several trips, but he also cooked the same meal on a propane and on a butane stove using a 12” light weight cast iron frypan. To save space and time, I crack the eggs and portion them out in clean , peanut butter glass jars for 2 meals then refrigerate. At camp, I add spices to the eggs and shake to scramble the eggs before cooking. I have a one pan “Camp Goulash” which I made several times and it makes several servings. Sauté 1 pound of ground turkey in 1 tablespoon olive or avocado oil, remove from pan and set aside. In same pan, sauté 1/2 -1 onion, until translucent. Add turkey to pan with the onion. Next add 1 can pitted, drained black olives (chopped or whole), 1 cup chopped marinated artichoke hearts and juice , 1 can stewed tomatoes, 1 can tomato paste. Add garlic powder, oregano, parsley to your taste. Simmer for about 20-30 minutes. You may serve this plain or on a bed of veggie noodles, pasta or rice. This dish tastes even better the next day. Happy camping!

You definitely should cook your pasta in the instant pot! 4 minutes and it’s done! You can even cook it with your meat and sauce all in there (if you don’t mind them being mixed, I don’t). It makes it so you can only dirty one dish! Also if you haven’t thawed your hamburger, you can cook it in the instant pot by itself for 25 minutes, release the pressure, chop up burger, add noodles and sauce, cook 4 more minutes and tada!

That is nuts. I would never get rid of my Blackstone. I just stock up on propane - everything size from the little tiny ones to the full size for the grill and 2 of the larger ones for the 4th wheel. Just space it out to spread out the cost.

We thought about collapsable bowls, but an average collapsable bowl you might eat cereal out of, they collapse to take up only .5 inches in thickness. So if you stack four of them it's two inches thick. You're saving maybe a whole inch over regular bowls that won't wear out eventually by being collapsed several times a day. Some things are okay collapsable, like a collander, but I'm not convinced the space you save on every day use items is really notable.

I'm closing on buying a used travel trailer this weekend, and once I do I plan on getting some Corelle or similar dishes for the trailer. They are thin, lightweight, stackable so they don't take up much space, and microwave safe. They will also stay rigid when filled with hot soup. If dishes are cleaned right away it's easy to wash them without using much soap and water. Pasta water can also be used to wash dishes. The starch in the water helps loosen foods.
@brianvandy4002
@brianvandy4002 2 жыл бұрын
@@annej5699 I'm with you. Corelle is great. I'd look into the padded shelf liner available. I cut little squares of this and put it between my plates and bowls. It pads them during transport and if you are in a motorhome it stops the rattling.
@vanananag7736
@vanananag7736 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, I also use Corelle dinner plates and cereal/soup bowls because they are light weight, durable and can be used in the microwave. I have 2 Corelle pie plates which can be used as warming vessels for leftovers or as dinner plates or for baking in the convection oven. I did purchase 3 small collapsible silicone bowls/covers for serving fruit or snacks when outdoors. When boon docking, I will use paper for some meals to save on water for cleaning. I am trying to decrease the amount of supplies that we bring in the RV, have decided to use stainless steel forks, spoons and knives and forget the plastic. Stainless is durable, plastic creates more waste and the stainless cutlery needs minimal water to clean.

We didn't have LP shortages here in South Florida, but regardless we made the switch to a Blackstone Electric Grill which works fantastic and is much lighter by 28lbs. And when boondocking two nights which is the most we do; we then bring along our small light Coleman camping cooker. But here at our home, we have an awesome Blackstone griddle.

We only have a 1,000 watt inverter…..so I use an induction cooktop when we are plugged in. I do try to cook ahead whennon hook-ups, so then I have meals in the freezer. Otherwise, for dry camping, we cook outside on a grill or coleman stove, both propane.

We’ve been doing remodeling and have been thinking about an induction stove. Space in the kitchen is limited and this would free up more counter space. Additionally, we use our convection oven rather than the RV propane oven since the convection bakes more evenly and we are only using the RV oven for storage. Thanks for sharing how to use the induction. Good tips!

Thank you for sharing this information! Your pro's and con's of propane are spot on (some I didn't realize 'til you mentioned them). I did find a tip to determine if you cookware is compatible to the Fogatti cook top: place a magnet on the bottom of you pan and if it sticks then it's compatible, if not then it's not ( this will rule out glassware, ceramic, aluminum, copper etc).

Been using induction since 2011. Don’t need a dedicated plug. It is on the same outlet as our coffee maker. We also use our convection/microwave for all baking. Induction sits on top of the stove cover and oven is for baking pan storage. We also got rid of our gas grill and now use a small Traeger which is electric. When off grid we do have to manage our electricity but it hasn’t been an issue with solar and our onboard generator.

I'm a bit of a foodie, so I am building a list of recipes (possible cookbook?) that have the 'sense of cooking' I enjoy but are possible using three propane burners (used for the first time two weekends ago,) an Instant Pot, a toaster oven, and my hubby's grill/camp stove set up - of which, he is chef and I am sous... And, yes, we did do Thanksgiving for 4 last year. But I did a breast and a lot of prep before going. I menu plan but have staples so we can always make stuffing if someone gets a craving... We are not vegan but moving that way and avoid processed food most of the time so we can binge out every now and then.

Years ago for tent camping and 3 day canoeing trips, I bought 3 coleman stainless steel nesting cooking sets that were different size ranges with their own nylon bags to keep them together. The nice thing was I could stack all 3 sets into one set to save space. Later after I bought a travel trailer, I also came across deals for a set of nesting stainless steel lasagna pans and a Quisinart stainless steel pots and pans set that nest inside each other with a canvas bag. 2 of the pots have lids that double as frying pans with detachable handles. I also have nesting bowl sets including mixing bowls of varying sizes to save space.

No one has actually mentioned the power needs of these devices (induction cooking/convection microwave oven, etc.? With set time limits of 'generator' usage in most campsites, one might have to rely on their batteries. We've found morning generator use doesn't start until 9:00 Am, which is FAR too late to be making breakfast, as we tend to get up early and are well on our way to our daily activities by then, so again, what energy use are you using? We've heard little to nothing here in Canada on propane shortage, thus continue to rely on using those devices, especially with our coach having two propane furnaces, we will be relying on propane for some time to come I believe. Propane is a component of natural gas, of which North America has more than we can use now, so I'm not seeing where it might be hard to find? Nonetheless, I'm a subscriber and enjoy your video's very much, and look forward to your future locations upcoming!

I'm planning updates to my RV to remove the stove/oven in favor of induction burners, convection microwave, and Instant Pot. In addition getting rid of the double sink and putting in just a single bowl sink. This would result in more drawers in the kitchen and more counter space for food prep. I'm also thinking of going with a mini split AC/heat pump, residential fridge, and maybe an electric on demand water heater. That would eliminate propane from my worries.

I disagree with you with the paper products. Items don't need to decompose for an extended period of time just because we wanted a meal and compound it per meal per person just because one can't be inconvenienced to get water & dump tanks more often. As a fellow full timer, I figured out how to use minimal water while still washing my Corelle dishware. If I have a lot of dishes to do, I will add an inch of water with soap to get started and then when I rinse (with an attachment on my sink faucet to slow the flow of water) in the same side of the sink. The other option I do if I'm doing a few things is wet the dish with a spray bottle, wash it with a dab of soap on my cloth and then rinse again by spraying it down with the spray bottle. I am always thinking of how I can reduce my garbage in the RV as for me that's WAY more of an inconvenience to me on my travels to find a garbage can to dispose of things than it is to find a dump station with potable water. It's not environmentally friendly to be using one use products for the sake of convenience when one can plan to go past a station on the way to the destination. Just my viewpoint. 😊

@GratefulGlamper 2 жыл бұрын
We don’t boondock a ton (hence our name). But when we do, we run the built in Onan generator for our Class A to cook, then shut it off.

Depending on were you want to camp in the future, you might consider cooking everything outside. I live in bear country and I spend a lot of time camping where bears live. I don't want any cooking smells in my camper. Park ranger told us about a used VW bug she bought were the first owner spilled salmon on the front floor board. The bears ripped off her roof twice and door once before she found out about the spilled salmon.

Hi there! Thank you very much for this version of kitchen time!! You shared some great ideas, for sure! We'll be, almost exclusively, boondocking. So, we won't be able to rely on a pure electrical cooking option. But....I guess we could have a supplemental generator set up that has a remote start!! Fire it up.....cook for 15 minutes...turn it off. We'll definitely incorporate some of your meal ideas! Safe travels!!

I was really into my instant pot but I stoped because I couldn’t figure out how to stop the seal from smelling awful after each cooking cycle. How do you combat that? It’s really annoying and I went back to a crockpot to avoid this issue

how many watts does to cook top suck down? i boondock. so there is a shortage of juice available. no gen hrs to be enforced. just do as i feel. and i feel if it is dark outside then no gen.unless there is a party going on. if others are close by i try to be nice. my new rv..i have yet to buy. will have at lest 4, 12v 200 (maybe 300) amp hr units, at least 400ah solar. but would still need a gen. all just to conserve on propane, run the ac..i wilt by 80F.

I’m a Solo Traveler in my Class C, 24D Navion Winnebago. I make egg McMuffins. I have a smaller fridge & just me. So, cheese, crackers, fruit, deli meat. Guilty pleasure is Jamaica meat patties, if I travel through Atlanta. I get 2 boxes from Costco’s. Nuke 2 minutes - dinner, Margarita, I’m good !! LOL ! Salads, always a go to & yogurt w/ granola. PB & J !!! Since I still have a home, if I cook something in a larger quantity, whatever is in freezer can easily get packed for a RV trip. Not sure I’m ready to purchase an induction cooktop. I understand since you are full time & fuel cost, like everything, is going up. TY, for sharing your cooking options/choices.
