That back wall is not designed to be glued. That is a hung wall with thick fiberglass.
@RVROOFINSTALL5 ай бұрын
What? Why is this?
@RVROOFINSTALL5 ай бұрын
Although they ..."designed" it that way. It's wrong. Needs to be fully adhered. It's NOT solid fiberglass, it's Filon adheres to Azdel. They don't adhere them becausenits quicker for them to assemble and send out. The rear wall is a shear wall. The coach will rack apart of not adhered and that is exactly what happens. Frames come loose, caulking breaks free and leaks. These campers are...,"deaigned" to fail.

What do you think is the main reason keystone stopped putting adhesive on the back panel? I have a 17 Coleman TT and it’s the same way. floppy
@RVROOFINSTALL5 жыл бұрын
They stopped glueing because it saves money. RV manufacturers will not spend absolutely one more penny than they have to . As long as it gets 365 days they did their job and pass the problems to the customer.

RV ROOF INSTALL most of the crap they make can’t even last a year. My first leak was only a couple months in. The silicone that was used over the stove exhaust had an air bubble that popped. Luckily the water that came in puddles on the stove. That was the first leak That they would not fix.

The caulk is M1 by Chemlink. As for the curbs ....they are proprietary.

What glue do you use to install the fiberglass to the plywood. Can you use contact cement or does it need to be a resin.
@TheCtx69694 жыл бұрын
i know nothing about a 5th wheel roof what is the point of the drywall tape on the seems just to make it like the scuffed up idea to make it stick better i guessing

When you relaminate the back wall what type of adhesive do you use? Would contact cement work?
@RVROOFINSTALL5 жыл бұрын
To laminate the fiberglass.... yes....contact cement will or should work. Make sure it says it will work on fiberglass. We use 3M 90. I just buy it in the cylinders because we use so much but you can buy it at HD or Lowe's.

When you get the black molding in stock you need to offer it for sale on your website

We have it in stock. We don't usually sell anything...we are a service shop. We had to buy 10,000 feet of it! Almost 2 miles!

My Coleman is barely 2 yrs old and my original molding is cracked and appears to have shrunk. Since I have to replace it anyway I would like to put that style molding on.

Can you show the roof ladder mount being installed from start to finish?
@RVROOFINSTALL5 жыл бұрын
The ladder mounts? Like how they get screwed down and sealed with the boots?
@richcat31985 жыл бұрын
Yes
@RVROOFINSTALL5 жыл бұрын
@@richcat3198 ok I guess. The fastening plates on the rear wall for the ladder are rlthe same as the ones on the roof and there are usually 4 screws for each. We just slide the boot under the base and screw it down then it gets heat welded. Oncenits welds we load the boat blwith a commercial pourable urethane sealer. I'll try to get a video on the next one. Since we are a small shop it's hard for me to video everything. Sometimes I just miss an opportunity to video because the guys have already done the task. I'll work on it.

Apoc 365 is a topical. It works well on all membranes because it doesn't have petroleum distillates that tend to eat the membrane as typical roof cement does. The drywall tape...my guess, is to minimize the membrane from sagging down in the butt joint gap. EPDM is extremely soft and plyable and would sag into the smallest of crevices making it unsightly.

Whats the cost of a repair like this?
@marywallace92435 жыл бұрын
When you say "heat weld", you are referring to using heat to apply the skirting around the curbs? I find the use of curbs brilliant!
@RVROOFINSTALL5 жыл бұрын
Yes, that is what we do. The TPO material basically fuses ( melts) together so it becomes one piece. This is a commercial design. This is the same roof you'd find on a hotel, office building, library or restaurant. It is the same exact product and caulking, just scaled down to function for an RV. On commercial work these curbs are ordered and built but you can not do that for an RV so we custom designed the curbs. Otherwise it is a real commercial roof with smaller curbs and boots or whatever else we need to fabricate. We have a HEAT WELDING video on our channel. Thanks for watching!
