Skamokawa is one of the nicest places in the country and we've been everywhere. Clean air -great summer climate and so green.

Yes the building on the hill is a church. I just drove this route on Sunday. I use to live in Skamokawa for a bit. It's pronounced Ska mock away. Have a great trip.

Thank you Russ. On the Oregon side be sure to drive the original highway through the Columbia River Gorge. There are many waterfalls right off the road. Most stay on the freeway and miss the falls and views. Oregon does have great State parks. Wind will pick up at the upper end of the Gorge. Wind surfer paradise. In Idaho the Snake River is beautiful all the way to Yellowstone and Teton National parks. The campgrounds get cheaper but have less features as you go East. Enjoy the transition from green to brown.

I know this video is a few years old by now but I’m watching it for the first time. The Columbia river gorge is so beautiful. This will make for a great trip. Btw cape disappointment is one of if not the most difficult park to get a camping spot . My family start’s trying to book reservations for the following year in November.

The Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds are some go the nicest campgrounds I have stayed at. There are several near Kennewick that are really nice. I always look for ACoE campgrounds first because they are so well maintained and landscaped. It's like camping in a park.

That Hwy14 on the Washington side is a drag to drive on when towing a trailer. The big rigs were trying to drive right over me because there's only one lane each way. The Oregon side was much more civilized.

I guessed you were going to go east...Skuh muck a wuh .... Love that drive .. Or bands used to play 80s and 90s at the duck inn a lot .your going to love that drive... Hello Russ, wanted to highlight a few good stops on ahead in the Columbia gorge. Our all time favorite campground is in Cascade Locks. It's called Marine Park Campground - Port of Cascade Locks. There are about 12 sites overlooking the actual decommissioned locks (now a canal) and the Columbia River just upriver of the "Bridge of the Gods". You will be able to observe Native Fisherman on tribal built platforms with net in hand making their living. Nearby is several attractions, Thunder Island Brewing, popular Eastwind Drive-in burger/ice cream stand, some local fruit and fish markets, and much more. All within the park grounds you will find a marina, a museum depicting the history of the area including the ancient native people, modern development, why the locks actually exist, a beautiful statue of Sacagawea and more. From basecamp at Marine Park you can doubleback on highway 84 and visit Multnomah and other waterfalls along the scenic "Old Columbia Gorge Highway" and "Crown Point" a vantage point high above the gorge. Also nearby is the Bonneville dam with its own "giant sturgeon" aquarium, all free to visit. About Marine Park, be aware if you like trains then you are in paradise! Because trains frequent past but do not blow their horns in that area and we actually like that part too! Side note: sadly in 2017 large portions of the gorge were burned out and scars will be visible for generations to come as reminder of how costly reckless human behavior can be, but that's another story in itself. Best Regards, keep up the good work out there! We look forward to seeing more of your travels!!!

Great move on trying to stay on the Oregon side of the Columbia river. I live in WA but we try to always camp in Oregon since like you said Oregon state parks are much, much better looking and better kept than WA state parks. Safe travels.

Hy Russ. I have camped at Vista Park for 20 years. We have Family Camp each August. It's my favorite. If you like cars, there is a car show in Longview today. Saturday, June 29 . Its an all day thing. Street fair and the whole 9 yards. It's called The Great Race.

What a great spot watching the ships. So I gotta ask, is it worth sleeping/staying in the van over the burden of hauling/driving/parking something bigger? Seems like you’re having a heck of a nice trip.

Very cool Russ. I was paying attention when you said you were headed for Idaho. I have a spot already for you here in Nampa. We're just about 35 miles east of the Idaho/Oregon border. Here's some good info for you coming east. I always use these places to fuel because the prices are always low. There is a Costco just off off Highway 205 after you cross the Columbia River from Washington into Oregon. It's on Jansen Beach where the Portland Air Port is located. Address 4849 NE 138th Ave, Portland, OR. Gas is $2.93 right now. The TA and Loves Truck Stop at exit 17 east bound I-84 are both $2.89 right now. And they have a great buffet. Then you mentioned Stanfield on your map. Just before you get to Stanfield, is a community called Boardman. About 5 or 6 miles before you get to Boardman on your right at the exit 159 there is a Pilot truck stop. The gas is $2.85. They are always low price. That will get you over the Blue Mtns and down into LaGrande, OR. You'll want to stay at Emigrant State Park on top of the blues in the beautiful trees. Nice shower houses and campsites. Try to get in the "B" "C" or "D" loops. It's further away from the freeway and much quieter.
@tazmod72725 жыл бұрын
What you could do is get on I-84 east on I-205 off of Washington 14. Travel east on I-84 to Multnomah Falls. Then cross over at Bridge of the Gods before Cascade Locks to Washington 14. Head east toward White Salmon then cross back over to Oregon side at the Hood River Bridge.

Hey a boat, cool you can go to marine tracker and it free and you find all the boat movement you can click on the boat markers and it well tell you the name of the boat and size who's flag it is under may say when it was build. Like I said free. You second ship was interesting. Can't wait hopefully this too and you have good weather and meet many nice people. The farm is planted one whole month late. So hope it is a late Fall to make up for the time......Take care.
