Salem actually pulled some psychology on Tyrian. She is happy that Qrow may end up dying, but she does not want Tyrian to become complacent with a consolation prize. She knows he is 100% devoted to her and wants to break him down a little just to build him back up as a better asset. Hearing the one he reveres as a Goddess call him a disappointment will strengthen his resolve immensely.

I really appreciate your guys’ positive views on volume 4. A lot of fans like to hate on it but I’m happy you were able to see it as a maturity of the show. While vol 1-3 were fun it def did feel like a lot of ideas with hardly any endgame plot. Cinder being introduced early on hinted at something but arguably not something as big as Salem. It was definitely a needed volume, without it we wouldn’t have seen the effects of the fall of beacon and their trauma. Vol 4 did great things for the characters, we got to learn more about ren and nora, who we knew nothing about other than that they were orphans before hand. WBY all went through trauma that attacked their *cores*. I’d talk about ruby’s trauma but i can’t bring it up for spoilery reasons i guess. but i think they did that on purpose because shes the hope who drives everyone forward and she’ll always be moving forward. Overall, thanks for being awesome about this volume guys. Yall are great.

Yeah i like 4 alot despite the slownes rwby needed that transitioning phase and episodes that takes the show to a new mature feeling after v3 finale that new approach was needed and v4 does its job

The Grimm you didn't recognize was the Beringel, introduced in the V4 Ruby Character Short. I know folks have pointed this out, and truthfully that one isn't super important, but I'll note that the V5 shorts (and the V6 short, the last short they've done) are a bit more important and you should try to watch those before their respective volumes. Also, Ironwood's threat was him quoting Jacques' threat from earlier in the volume back at him.

Fun Facts Fact 1: Blake saying "My hero." in this episode is a callback to "Of Runaways and Stowaways" when Sun is caught by Blake and says the phrase and later in the same chapter, where he also catches her and asks Blake to say it, though she never did. Fact 2: Kali crashing through the door while she and Ghira were eavesdropping on Blake and Sun is a callback to "A Much Needed Talk" when Sun was eavesdropping on Blake and Ghira. Fact 3: Salem asking Cinder if she wasn't the girl who wanted power is a callback to "Beginning of the End" in Cinder's monologue.

Salem knows what her minions want and how to punish them. Cinder wants to be big bad and powerful, so Salem makes her feel weak and helpless. Tyrian has fanatic devotion to Salem so all she needs to do is tell him she's disappointed, Tyrian will do the rest himself.

Ironwood needs some therapy, Blake finally learned a lesson, and her mother reinforces either the Blake/Sun ship or the Sun/Kali ship, depending on whom you ask. Boss fight, incoming!

Doesn't it disturb anyone that, in order to make sense of some parts of the story, you have to watch supplemental side-episodes and shorts? I always felt it was wrong that some main plot points of RWBY could ONLY make sense if you watched things outside of the actual main series. It's so redundant.

Whoever is leading the writing team really needs to go back and learn the basics of writing a series. This is where I kinda got frustrated with Blake. I can understand she feels shitty about what happened to her friends, but if her answer is to leave them without explaining anything? And push everyone away? Then I don’t really sympathize with her.

I guess it depends by someone's own personal experience. I understand Blake and sympathize with her because I once pushed away those who are dear to me, including family members. But by being alone with myself I learn to value those around me.

@@Avatarconner I doubt that she had her reasons thought out when she first ran. She ran because it's what she's always done, almost a response. The hope that they hate her likely came later. As stated in this episode, she is being selfish in her attempt to be selfless. If she thinks they hate her, then it is easier for her to reason that she should stay away. It's something she thinks will comfort her. Yes, she's very flawed for this and it can be a lot of work to have a friend with commitment issues on that level, but her coming home for the first time since white fang does a lot to heal her, and help her perspective.
