As good as it is that Adam is dead, I like that the show doesn’t really portray his death as a victory. It’s like Blake said in volume 1, life is not the same as a fairytale. Life can be cruel and ugly and bitterly unfair. But Blake is free now, at least, much more free than she was, and she knows now not only that there are people who love her, but that she deserves that love to begin with. Also I’ve seen people complaining that Adam’s death shouldn’t have been what brought them together, but I think they missed the point. His death *didnt* bring them together-he dies because they had already brought *themselves* together. They talked about their problems, they worked things out on their own. And because of that, when he came back, they were strong enough to take him on.

31:40 - I always love this line, the actress sells it. Pay closer attention to how she's talking. "YOUR FAULT! Your Fault! your fault. your... fault... She's not talking to Ruby. Cordovan's talking to herself by the end of it. I've had those kinds of moments, it's... heartbreaking.

Jaune foreshadowed the Leviathan earlier when he said, 'it's probably used for large grimm coming in from the seas". Also, at the beginning of chapter 12, while the soldiers were cheering on Maria, there was a blip on the radar in the foreground, signalling the approaching Leviathan.

This scene with Adam being killed and Blake breaking down is one of the most emotionally strong of the entire show. Ultimately, the only way she was able to escape Adam was by killing him. It's easy to understand her trauma. They are huntsmen, they kill grim, not people. She not only had to take a life, but the life of someone she used to love, was close to, someone that made her suffer and she had to run away from. But she finally faced him, by Yang's side. Also, I feel like she got to the root of her habit of running away, and was very distressed that Yang might think she would do it again. Kudos for the girls. That scene still makes me cry even after the 100th watch. PS : Best video reaction ever.

The way the confrontation between BY and Adam ended wasn't pleasant for me either. It was not even bittersweet; it was just bitter. I don't think Adam was a poor-written character. He was what he always was: a broken boy full of spite. And his death was inevitable because he was too far gone. The saddest thing about him is that I don't think that everything about his relationship with Blake and the White Fang was just an act. His mindset of being the hero of the story no matter what he did is something that remains throughout the series. By the time he is killed by BY, he has lost everything: his dream of a better world, his followers, and the only person who saw his vulnerable side. All because he made everything about himself. That's when he finally realizes that he was just deluding himself. He wasn't the hero, because heroes don't die. Anyway, this is how we said goodbye to the first voiced character.

Preach it! I was so pissed when so many people said he is a badly written character and that he was wasted. That was one of many moments where I had to realize that a lot of the RWBY fandom sadly has no idea what good writing actually is. The first time we meet him in the show (not counting the trailer or the end of volume 2 since therer he only said a single sentence) he literally was set up to be the bad obsessive boyfriend. Then they expanded on that with the Fang but at his core he remained exactly what he was introduced as. That is not bad writing, it is consistency.

I assume that the ships normally stay at the hangars. Having all of them in the air, in formation at ready, must be consuming some resources. Even if gravity dust could keep them airborne for all eternity without the need of refill, there would still be personnel (who could be doing something else, for example patrolling and disposing nearby Grimms) operating those ships.
@Mirality3 жыл бұрын
Also, many of them should be on patrol elsewhere in Solitas and Anima, not all here.

Qrow's little leap off the cliff, further proof that he can only change form when unobserved? Perhaps the last time he trusted Summer, she never came back. Cordovan continues to act the unstable idiot; perhaps she would have listened if Ruby had pointed out that her tantrum was sure to bring the grimm. Meanwhile, now we know why Blake didn't toss Adam's sword when she had to chance: so Yang could do it instead. I probably said, last time, that Yang shouldn't get the shakes in the middle of a life-threatening situation; turns out, she was faking it from the start. As a result, Adam is Definitely Dead. His fans wish he hadn't been 'reduced' to a misogynistic asshole; I think that was always the plan, but this volume suggests he was one from the start, instead of being corrupted over time (like his short suggests). Perhaps they changed it so they wouldn't stack one 'good intentions gone bad' character arc on another... And thus is Neo's new purpose in the story revealed: Cinder needed a pilot. That's almost all she does for the next two volumes, be pretty and taxi bad guys around. Hey, Cordovan is freaking out again... it's a shame *she* doesn't attract any grimm! Love the 'huntspeople assemble' musical callback from volume 3. You remembered the lamp draws grimm before they did! The song during the silver eyes is specifically for Monty, you're not the only one to be moved to tears by that scene. And this is the final performance of this Qrow voice; I like to blame the change on his quitting alcohol. It's not as smooth a transition as Mercury between volumes 2 and 3, but it works. I don't care how inconsistent Remnant's physics are, there's no way even that wingspan could bear the weight of that much muscle... on the other hand, flying apes are far more intimidating than flying monkeys.
@TheGreater-ScopeVillain3 жыл бұрын
Like Salem, Cinder only uses people until they are no longer useful. Unfortunately for Neo, attempting to assassinate her when they were meant to be on the same side is not a good look for her in Cinder's view. But, who knows, Neo should be okay in Cinder's books, just as long as Neo doesn't do anything else to upset her... 😐

The Adam death scene is a hotly debated scene on which everyone has their own angle. Honestly, the closest I have ever seen this fan base to breaking was in the weeks following its initial release. Personally, I find some specific but serious archetypal and tonal issues with the execution (cinematography, set design, choreography, and instrumental score) that outright unsettle me, while also recognizing Yang and Blake also didn’t do anything wrong and that Adam was a bad person with throughout the entire show.
@LukaBlight693 жыл бұрын
In my personal opinion, they botched Adam's character with turning him into an obsessed psychopath as opposed to making him a potential sympathetic villain/anti-hero. Seeing him die to Yang and Blake was not satisfying to me as it felt more like a euthanization of a character they had no idea how to write as someone who could be sympathized with. RWBY seems to bounce between trying to introduce complex narratives, but not following through with nuance. In the cases of Salem and Ozpin, they succeed in making them complex characters with layers and grey areas, but with Adam, they made it almost too easy to hate him. Tyrian for example is easy to hate too, but he's such a fun villain. Same with Roman and Watts. Adam just disappoints me. I was also somewhat against Ruby and Jaune for this plan as Cordovan was just doing her job. It sucks that they couldn't tell her about the relic and Salem, but I also do appreciate that Ruby acknowledged she messed up and Cordovin was like "Yes you made a mess, but you did clean it up. I'll let you pass and we'll call it even." V7 and V8 are peak RWBY though, I have my issues with them, but both are the best in terms of story, action, and narrative in my opinion. I hope you enjoy them like I did. :) Edit: Salem: Fine, I'll do it myself. Yep, Salem is leading the next big charge.

I'm always a bit confused when people talk about Adam's character this way as if there was a sudden shift and he just turned into a petty dickhead after volume 3 but he's been like that since the black trailer. He was going to let all of the innocent people on the train die for no reason which is just petty and evil. I don't think he was the best written character but to say he was "botched" implies that he was at one point an interesting character which he has never been. And I agree about volumes 7 and 8, can't wait for her reactions
@DigiCount3 жыл бұрын
I see this response regarding Adam everywhere and it's always confusing. If CRWBY didn't want people to feel something complicated regarding Adam, then why have him branded by the SDC? Why does Nevermore explicitly go out of its way to mourn him? The problem is that the harm done to him was past and the harm he intended was imminent. Sometimes that's just the way things go, and given the events of chapter 1 Adam had nothing left to fixate on but Blake and Yang. Saying that he should have been written as an anti-villain or more sympathetically is, in this case, basically saying that they should have written a different character.
@sidous4713 жыл бұрын
I gotta be honest, even taking out my bias against Adam, I don't see any... USE for Adam.
@Cyrinil1423 жыл бұрын
I don't know why people say this about Adam. He was always like this in every scene except one. (Where he was telling Cinder that he wasn't interested in renting goons to humans.) In literally every other scene he's murdering people for fun/racism and/or being a creep about Blake. Sienna Kahn is the character you were describing. I don't think anyone disagrees with the perspective that she was killed off too quickly and had a lot of potential for moral complexity. Even the writers have owned up to an oopsie on that one. Basically I'm asking why so many people think Adam is at any point been sympathetic or use phrases like "turning him into an obsessed psychopath." To me that's like hearing somebody say they "turned cinder into a raging narcissist" or "turned Yang into a reckless hothead." I don't get it.
@TurtleOfAngst3 жыл бұрын
So you invented a character upon seeing the Black Trailer (but not listening to it), and proceeded to ignore every piece of actual characterization that followed? Are you also upset that Yang wasn't a Mecha Pilot, or that Qrow isn't secretly Ruby's mother? CRWBY did a GREAT job accurately depicting an abuser, and how they might twist and corrupt good things for their own selfish ends, and all the nuance that goes with it. Adam SHOULD NOT be sympathetic. Pitiable, sure. He's a man-child raging at anything and everything that doesn't literally bleed for him, that's pathetic enough to be pitiable. But from the VERY BEGINNING, the Black Trailer, it was demonstrated that he ENJOYED killing and threatened violence against anyone who questioned him. There is nothing sympathetic about that, at no point does he attempt anything heroic. TL;DR If you want and Edgy White Boy Anti-hero, you're better off making an OC than making Adam THAT out of character. His role was to be an evil corrupting the White Fang and haunting Blake, and he served that purpose marvelously. Can't WAIT for you to say the same BS about another character that was clearly a villain, too!
@alannorris38193 жыл бұрын
Who else loves how they massively downgraded adam to push the yang/blake narrative? A narrative that makes no sense given what's gone on in previous volumes.
