This is the lesson the Ever After is trying to teach Jaune by having to see someone he cares about pass on and learning to let go. That is okay. But he interfered because he isn't mentally healthy enough to understand that after all the trauma he's been through. He needs to forgive himself for Penny's death. He hasn't and that's why he can't let the Paper Pleasers go. The parallel at the end of the flooding of Jaune's village and what happened to Atlas is damn brilliant.

Can't wait for them to react to ep 8. One of my favorites yet since V3 finale and the Apathy episode. I read a comment somewhere that ep8 perfectly recreated the /*********slight, implied spoilers ahead**********/ traumatic experience of V3 finale for them and I couldn't agree more. Definitely caught me off guard. The dark episodes of RWBY are always the memorable and the best ones.

Well, now we know why the bodies of the people Cinder blew up in Volume 8 were never recovered: many of them burnt up in Cinder's flames during the descent. In Ruby's flashback of Cinder, we see several bodies of those she had killed fall while consumed in balls of fire behind her. There were, of course, also bodies that fell that weren't on fire, but the Ever After is so weird and unknown that the corpses that survived being burnt to ash by Cinder simply fell to a random part of the realm and were never seen again. Or they could have disappeared another way, since all manner of things are possible inside the Ever After.

This Volume has been a wild ride but the closing thoughts here resonate, this is very much a self-contained story that was very enjoyable but really got to the core of RWBY storytelling. To be fair Jaune sort of has the most trauma out of them all he literally had to kill his friend. Only Yang and Blake have ever killed anyone before but Adam was a psychopath who wanted them dead. Jaune had to look Penny, an innocent girl who was his friend, in the eye and STAB her to death. That’s beyond fucked

So, for this episode, I really sympathize with Jaune reasoning to continually saving the paper pleasers, the main reasons being his involvement with penny's sacrifice ,his past failure to prevent someone genuinely close to him from also sacrificing their life regardless of their choice ,the other believed failure of not saving Lewis and the pure fact that the paper pleasers saved Jaune life after Juniper brought him to them and as far as I'm interpreting this, Jaune protection for a good while is a good reason why the paper pleasers were able to reach their desired goals in the first place which prompted their want for Ascension. What crazy is that I can bring up more point on why it's very ln character on why Jaune is doing this and is for the most part is justified but the ultimate lesson that he needed to learn is acceptance over the outcome his regardless of his involvement to continue on. Even if the Jabberwalkers never attacked and Team rwby opted for his plan, if they had found an exit, he couldn't be there to protect them forever, so in order to progress he would have eventually needed to accept their fate.

This entire volume made me reflect back on the previous ones, particularly the argument between the gang and Blake on if they were ready to be heroes, and Blake's argument was that "they may never be ready." Dr. Ooblick said something about how both humanity and grimm are relentless back in Search and Destroy(?). I think about this episode especially and the later episodes in this volume align with that mentality as well and I try to figure out why team RWBY is focusing on stopping Salem instead of beating her to the punch, summoning the brothers before she can (like calling mom home and tattling on your sibling). Jaune's experience protecting the village is kind of like what team RWBY is trying to do with Remnant in my opinion, protecting something that (maybe) needs (or has no other options than) an end.

Also it's not a fantasy. Jaune's would be lover died and he couldn't save her. Jaune personally killed Penny. Jaune thought he lost everyone and spent decades alone with the guilt that he murdered a friend in hopes of saving everyone and ultimately saved no one. It's trauma, not some childlike hero fantasy

I just finished watching this episode last night and it made me so mad. When it was over, I was like: The fuck? One moment they made Jaune look like he's become a competent reliable hero who has matured and become knowledgeable through years of experience, then all in this one episode they make him look like a loser who wasted everyone's time, FOR YEARS! Ruby is pretty much expressing how I feel about the show right now. I am so done with the writer's shit: 1. They pretend Ozpin is a bad guy when he isn't 2a. They did Sun dirty by throwing all of the development and buildup he had with Blake out the window so they can pander to the Bumbleby shippers 2b. The writers decided to lie and pretend that Bumbleby was a thing going on for a "long time" (or since the beginning depending on who you ask) when in actuality it only started in Volume 7 after defeating Adam to cash in on the shippers 3. They did an unnecessary character assassination with Jaune What the hell is up with the writers and character assassination? You can just write that the reason why Jaune was so occupied was because he was defending the villagers from the constant attacks of the Jabberwalkers. Instead, they disrespected his character and made him into a pathetic loser who hasn't made any progress in his life, but the Bumbleby shippers wouldn't dare criticize the awful writing because the writers pandered to their romantic fantasies like they wanted.

I'm surprised no one is making the connection. Alice in Wonderland is all about growing up & leaving your childhood behind. The others are handling it better than Ruby because they're either at that age where you naturally stop with the childishness or they've already gone through some ish that made them grow up faster (losing an arm, defeating your abuser, freeing yourself from an abusive family). But Ruby not only hasn't had a normal childhood but she's also young enough to still believe in rainbows & unicorns. She lost her mother at a very young age which put a huge hurt on her childhood. And she found her escape in the fairy tales & dreaming of being a hero for the people. But then she got thrown into being an adult, being a leader of a hunstman crew, so she's never had a real childhood where you grow out of fantasyland. On top of that she learns that some, or many, fairy tales are TRUE but are NOTHING like the stories she sunk herself into. Like the Maidens. She learns that's all true but it's not the 4 maidens and the Old Man. That it's been MANY maidens (400? 40,000? who knows) and they've all had to die to keep the maidenhood going. So I feel like she's become OVERLY cynical about everything...almost to the point of apathy...and it's due to her not having a normal & healthy childhood like all the others. So she'll probably need to connect with some part of her childhood, some part she can look back fondly on but still be able to grow up into a healthy adult. I still think the key is going to be with Penny somehow. It was good to see Jaune deal with his PTSD of having to kill Penny....and obviously his paper people was his initial coping mechanism to that trauma. If he could keep them from dying then in his mind it would make up for him having to take Penny's life. So Ruby is gonna have to find a way to heal from Penny as well.

While I do enjoy this Volume for Ruby's arc, it kinda just highlights that Team RWBY...really doesn't care about each other. Yang and Blake are more concerned about their relationship (for some reason) rather than the sister and their friend (that Blake barely talks to). Not to mention, they're more worried about Jaune than anything. I get that he's not all there and he definitely needs to help, but they literally did not even check on Ruby when she was acting off

Juane biggest flaw is the writers of the show. They still treat him like garbage and use him as a prop to get lectured at. Vol 9 ends and they basically ignore Juanes trauma and lecture him about having normal feelings.
