Michael Moynihan is a great interviewer. He both lets the interviewee speak and challenges him in an insightful way.

I often tell newbies in AA that there are really only two things necessary to be successful in their attempt to live alcohol and drug free, and those two things are honesty and humility. If you can do the right thing when nobody is looking or will ever know then you will probably be successful.

Stoicism is Holiday's schtick, and he's making a living at it. As if stoicism is the only game in the universe at understanding life, the self and knowing how to navigate both! Nice little niche you have there Ryan. Well done.

Moynihan is a great interviewer but this is too political. Holiday has a lot to contribute with his re-introduction to stoic philosophy but he is not a substantive political thinker and it shows. The issues of cancel culture, Trump, left vs right, etc are well-covered in the day to day content of the Free Press. Rather than present Holiday as another talking head, this was an opportunity to explore Holiday's applications of stoicism to a personal level, the problems of everyday life. The interview did not focus on this enough.

It seemed that Holiday has gotten delayed TDS. I heard he did an event in Dublin and it was a Trump struggle session. I don't like Trump, but Holiday's channel used to be apolitical. Recently he seemed to lose his mind over Trump. A quote from one of his videos is "Trump is objectively a loser". Again, I don't like Trump but seems like a strange thing to say.

@@pennyadrian7774 Yes, in my experience that, generally, been the case. I also think that people can benefit from simply reading the original sources and making parallels with their own life situations. Stoicism does have many practical applications, and as Holiday mentioned, you don't need special knowledge to get something out of it like you would with, maybe, the writings of Kierkegaard or Kant.

Not one of TFPs more engaging interviews. Mr Holiday came across to me as highly contrived and self absorbed. Plus, didn’t American Apparel run itself into the ground? Not exactly a claim of success. Had to stop watching after 20 minutes.

I really wanted to like this guy, having read one of his books which was pretty good. I was trying to get past his relative youth and good looks to get to the substance. He likes pointing the finger at people which is a sign of weakness. Ultimately he’s half-baked.
