WW3 started sometime in the last 10 years or so - historians will argue about the date. We don't see it clearly because it's highly asymmetric (think migration, infowars etc) and because as in WW2 it has aggressors with differing objectives who are allies only because of a common enemy, which broadly speaking is Western Civilisation and Culture (and its rules based systems).

if you see in context of the Iran iraq war 1980 to 1988, the Iranians delayed releasing the hostages until after the USA 1980 elections were over and the Reagan gov was in power, after the Iranian gov made deals with the USA rep party. if elected Reagan would unfreeze Iranian assets and resume the delayed arms shipments that were ordered by the Shah Iranian gov that they overthrew. Well the hostages got released some Iranian assets got unfrozen some weapons went thru , but the USA did not finish the deal on their end due to delays, and this resulted in the Iran contra scandal. with iran angry at the USA and doing terrorist attacks and taking American hostages in the 1980s to get the USA get thru 100 percent of the deal , USA was in a position basically to double cross the Iranians since the Iranians were desperate and fighting for their lives vs. the Iraqis in the 1980s. So in context look at this scenario , Putin helps Trump get elected, Trump then makes a play about ending the war, negotiations collapse, Trump on his end , ends all support for Ukraine. however the EU and their allies step in and provide dramatically more aid to Ukraine, and USA allows Ukraine to buy weapons from the USA using the aid money coming from the Europeans and allies. and the war continues. Not surprised if Putin gets angry and starts doing terrorist attacks on USA European allied industries supporting Ukraine. Which only inflames the west to give more aid to Ukraine. The drip feeding continues as usual but with the Europeans replacing the Americans in drip feeding the aid. I think , the war ends with the Russians holding 20 percent of Ukraine, both sides exhausted. The peace negotiations result in the Russians keeping the 20 percent they conquered from Ukraine in exchange the Ukraine gets security guarantees from NATO , billlions in USD in reconstruction aid. and army gets to rearm with the help of NATO. Russia gets all its assets unfrozen and all sanctons lifted. However yes both sides are exhausted just like the Iranians and Iraqis after their war ended in 88. However both sides armies are not in any state to win against the other. and the Russian army in particular while greatly expanded. its been largely humiliated. with lots of prestige lost. its combat doctrine remains the same , lot of command and control issues too centralized. however its improved esp. in terms of drone warfare, however its weapons stocks dating back to the cold war has been severely depleted. also the war by the time it ends I think the Russians would have suffered about 1-2 million casualties. for like 20 percent of Ukrainian land which is mostly ruins. which the Russians have to spend many billions of USD rebuilding. Also the Russians while ballyhooing they won, will not feel that they have won, many elites will start blaming Putin and each other for the war. Also world oil prices might crash due to the USA drilling more oil under the Trump admin. I tink Putin will probably do a massive purge of the elites after the war just to keep his regime stable which has been destabilized due to the war , and also crack down on rising crime rates, as the Ukraine war veterans return back to Russia, the the crackdowns probably result in rebellions esp. in the ethnic minority areas. Russian economy crashes after the war. with Putin so called Indian and Chinese allies maybe even the North Koreans call on the Russians to pay up their war debts to them. in the face of mounting internal problems, Putin cannot just do another war to distract the Russians. so will probably resort to more purges and internal repression to stabilize his regime. and go on to repair his economy and rebuild and reform his army but this will be slow gong due to various economic problems Russia will be facing like foreign investors not coming back to Russia in droves. like pre war and still European hostility to Russia with the Europeans largely not buying Russian energy products. Also as for the political front, the rise of the PMCs during hte war created many PMCs , and those PMCs are loyal to Russian patrons who are oligarchs. Those guys cant just bve purged by Putin since it might result in a civil war. and the PMCs are paying top dollar and better working conditions and benefits, recruiting from the returning Russian war veterans , no one wants to join the Russian army. and these oligarchs with their PMCs are very much unhappy with Putin. but Putin is still t he middle man they need to keep Russia from going into some sort of destabilization. Now after Putin its really a question on who rules next. if the successor to Putin does not havef the same caliber of managing as Putin then there is a grave problem with Russia having lots of PMCs( even the Rosgvardia is a PMC of the FSB). Then a succession crisis can cause a civil war. Now if this civil war occurs, it will be an opportune time for Ukraine, as Ukraine is probably in a great position to take advantage of it as its probably rearmed and reformed its military with a booming economy and rapidly rebuilding. While Russia on the border has a tanking economy and in severe destabilization. not surprised if Ukraine supports various factions in the war. for hte pirce of returning back its lost territory. So Ukraine manages to take back all or most of its lost territory with a Russia not being able to do anything about due ot it having a civil war.

I've been follwing Ryan probably since March 2022. His investigative work is wonderful and he's that balance of integrity an entertainment that makes him so widely respected. He did, however, wander off into speculation and areas that aren't his expertise, as well as make repeated mistakes liek referring to the Baltics as, something like the Balkins (wasn't quite the same). Oil production in the US is and has been the highest in recent years. Ever. It's not regulatory constraints on drilling that is restraining production, but rather refining capacity and price itself. Few new refineries are being opened because they're huge and expensive and if we're at the "end of oil" no one wants to make that investment. Prices are low and could go lower, which means producers don't want to increase supply. So removing and new well formation restrictions in the US is unlikely to have an impact on Russia. One could argue, like he did on European health care (which isn't free), that if Americans all spent $500 less on gasoline per year, that would have a similar impact on price. The US is and has been the largest supplier to Europe of LNG and there were huge investments in port facilities in Europe to increase the level of LNG that can be imported. LNG is expensive and not competitive in price vs pipelines. It's unlikely that facilitating much more LNG will have an impact on the Russian economy. There are quite a few areas that Ryan wandered off into that could have used refinement, but in his characterization of Obama-period aid was a bit misleading. One of the things I saw a lot of in Ukraine during the 2010s was US advisors and trainers remaking Ukrainian forces into something more of a Western model. It was that effort to make NCOs (like the goo sargeant, here) more meaningful. That work didn't get far enough along before the full-scale invasion, but it has been critical. ZSU forces in Donbas at the time would credit the LM TPQ-53s (short-range radar for mortar fire) as having some of the biggest impact on casaulty numbers. Those were in with the blankets from O'bama. Yes the Javelins in 2017 were huge in pushing the Russian armor back into Russia, but I'm not so sure that was Trump helping Ukraine so much as Trump conducting a sale; it wasn't aid. One last thing because I think I made my point on the "wandering off" bit. These two gentlemen talked about how hard it is to really read the sentiment and such in Ukraine. Well come on over! It's not expensive to get to Ukraine from Czechia, for example, and it's pretty cheap to travel around. Get your feet wet in L'viv, then Kyiv, the Kharkiv. Talk to people. Super easy. Talk to troops. Super easy. Yes the media and politicians get it wrong, but don't take my word for it. You have remote jobs, go to Ukraine for a fortnight or something. The Eagles already won the NFC East anyway, but good luck to the Commanders in the Wild Card. ;p

The US Congress decided sending lethal aid to Ukraine was a good idea, and Trump decided to squeeze Ukraine for political favors before allowing the lethal aid to be sent. I get that Ryan is trying to be politically mild, or neutral, or something, but Trump's slow walking of the aid Congress funded for Ukraine resulted in his impeachment. Interesting interview. The entire analysis and projection part concerning the Ukraine war, however, is almost pure fiction and distinctly US in perspective. I think he is underestimating Russia, assuming power projection in their minds works as in the 1900s. Russia will never conclude the war without trade concessions and the losses in the war will be enough to have a gradual transition from a war economy to a regular one over years. With investment money coming in once the war is concluded, it is unlikely Russia will be hit too hard for too long. No matter what deal Germany strikes with the US, any conclusion to the war will lead to increase trade between the EU and Russia, simply because of the tyranny of distance, though it is unlikely to reach any degree of integration and dependence that it had before.

Ryan is also simply wrong about Russia runing out of food, fuel, resources etc. Russia's enormous size (teritorially) means it is incredibly self sufficient in natural resources, more so than any other country and as it has proven what little it doesn't have it can trade for even if you totally exclude it's energy sector. Yes Putin may well not be able to maintain the current level of intensity of it's offensive but it is NEVER going to be so weakened by a lack of resources (anyway) that Ukraine without the whole free worlds commited help will be able to roll it back and I am afraid Trumps win means it most certainly will soon lose that.

What may have solved the under spending issue with NATO countries is if article 5 stipulated that the other nations would come to the aid of any country which was attacked but not until 10% of that countrys territory had been destroyed for every 1% under 6% of their GDP they spent on defence averaged over the previous 5 years. So if youre only spending 1% and you get attacked you dont get any help until half your country has been shelled all to shit.
