Yeah, so this is a request from Patreon. I listened to this on a full album review of Brand New Maid, and I've heard it many times......and somehow I'm STILL blown away by it! Sorry about the crappy video, I wasn't able to use my camera...had to use the camera on my laptop.

The thing nobody ever says about this song is that it implies there are also fiction days. Now I want a song about those too. Let's face it. I want a Band-Maid song about everything. I'll take a Ryan Mear review over 99% of the first-time reactions out there any day of the week, fiction *or* non-fiction. Edit: Really KZbin? You can't *bold* something at the end of a *sentence*?

Love this Song! Watched a behind the scenes making of the video, video. To get an empty beach they did it in the winter. It was freezing! In between scenes they were all wearing huge matching silver parkas. They suffered to bring us awesome rock and roll! Thanks Ryan! Band Maid Forever! PO! 😊😎✌🤘

It's just like you say... I've listened to this song countless times and I still shake my head in a this-is-so-freaking-good fashion. They just keep wowing me no matter if it's their latest release or some older stuff like this. Lately I've been (pleasantly) discovering and digging deep into the whole SCANDAL catalogue and they are awesome. I'm more into the heavier stuff from SCANDAL but I'm loving almost all of it by now. Anyway, I'm bringing SCANDAL up now because I was listening to it the other day and then decided I wanted to listen to Band-Maid instead and it's such a shock, soundwise! I mean, I was listening to some heavy songs from SCANDAL but when I put "New Beginning" playing and "Thrill" begins, I realise how much brutally heavier Band-Maid is. It's thick and heavy... it's so heavy and yet, I love Band-Maid for the songs not just because they are heavy. Yeah, still my favorite band. Love this song. As a funny weird coincidence side note, in my SCANDAL explorations, I found a 2009 video where Mami (main guitar & vocals) does a similar greet that Miku uses in the live shows and tells how she would like to have a Maid Café of her own... in the same older footage, the 4 SCANDAL members (Haruna, Mami, Tomomi and Rina) are wearing black t-shirts with some white drawings in it and the words Band-Made... it's got nothing to do with Band-Maid coming up 5 years later but just some funny coincidence - Although I wouldn't be surprised if SCANDAL were also an influence on Band-Maid, specially around the time of the first album that is a lot more rock, punk than what happened from "New Beginning" on...

First! ETA: They look so young here. I think this is probably the best song "they didn't write", although it definitely has some competition. But this song just consistently good from first to last note.

Besides Kanami always writing the perfect compact solo, she also doesn't have to share the guitar spotlight with Kobato. No dueling or Skynyrd-like dual solos like you get with some other bands. Miku has surpassed all expectations for me over the last 5 years. Her sense of timing is excellent and has no problem keeping pace even during the fast songs. I'm expecting a true Flappy Pigeon solo soon and not just accents in a song or intro.

When I discovered this band a few years ago I would have never believed that it would quickly become my favorite band of all time, a multi instrumentalist of 61 I've heard all the great band's and seen most live, but never has a band moved me like Band Maid, before Band Maid I didn't even like female frontend band's, well that's all changed, and I'm better for it, it's always a pleasure to listen to your reviews Ryan, thanks and stay well.

IMHO they have a very unusual combination of members that each contribute to the whole & respect each other. Miku and Saiki's growth have greatly contributed to the band's growth. There are a lot of really excellent bands, many from Japan; but none reach my "heart" more often than these 5. Bandmaid has something; if it fits you then you have found a beautiful source of entertainment, inspiration and hope.

Genuine Musical Badass Rock Stars! I'm right with you on "They just keep getting better on every listen." I always think of NFD as the first in a series of songs somewhat in the same vein. That if we didn't have NFD, we wouldn't have got Yolo, then Secret My Lips, then Puzzle and then pretty much none of Unseen World. LOL! It also shows that the Ladies have had "IT" for quite a while.

Besides freezing their asses off to make this, they had some close calls with the pyro. That's dedication to the art! That little interlude that you said reminds of some 90's song actually reminds me of early King Crimson.

Soundgarden. That's what the mid-section breakdown reminds me of. Not too bad of a recovery considering what happened. This song is such a banger. When you hear those opening beats standing there in the crowd, everyone goes nuts. With Miku's evolution it sounds even better now, a much fuller sound (if that's possible lol). What's interesting is that this song gets "forgotten" sometimes (at least by me) simply due to how many amazing songs they have now so when it does come up on the playlist its like you said, rediscovering the song. This is one of their songs (among many) where you will hear something different about it every time you listen. Also to note: Kanami - on her Addictone Misa - on her old 4 string Akane - tiny hat on her head :)

Ryan, it's hard to say this but it's probably one of their best songs! Yeah, I know they have so many "best songs" but this one still hits you hard every time you hear it! As for that quiet part before that fabulous Kanami solo..it's the notes coming out of the silence...those guitar notes being support by Misa's "almost random" sounding bass and Akane's perfectly placed beats...it's almost a scary moment and than the solo hits you! Thanks for redoing the review! Technical problems blame it on Murphy's law! Peace and Tespect 🇨🇦

Fantastic. The reviews are only as good as the reactions. Sometimes even better. You learn more. Whenever I listen to this song the memory I have is Miku jumping from the drums platform at the end of the 2017 concert. The brave pigeon flying really high ... in heels!

Another great earlier song. There’s a decent 2016 live version at some (Vegas I think) comic convention. I was surprised that it’s a lot of Miku singing the lovely vocal breakdown, prior to Kanami’s awesome solo. After many listens, I never particularly noticed Akane’s cool snare effect, until you mentioned it. A good breakdown and review.

Must have been extremely frustrating to have to redo these, but it's appreciated, thank you! I'm not one of the "everything they do live is better" people, but IMO their performance from Shinkiba Studio Coast makes this version obsolete (even though I'm pretty sure they just dubbed in the studio version of the solo). This is far from my favourite Band-Maid song, but that live version would probably be my go-to suggestion for first time reactors, it's that good. Hope the rest of your recordings were a success!

[Rant #41] Sorry, but I can only take so much apathy towards excellence. I mean, just listen to this song! The Non Fiction Days has been out since May, 2016 yet they only have 441K YT subs after 8 years with more than 100 incredible songs like this one and over 400 live concert performances. Are the Maids not enough of a shiny object for people. Are they not good enough musicians, or writers, or pretty enough? I've been harping about this for years and just don't get it. Thanks to all the viewers who know how to recognize authentic, fantastic music and who support Band-Maid in some way. And thanks to Ryan for covering another Band-Maid rocker!

Regardless if it is a reaction or review I really appreciate your viewpoints of any or all of Band-Maids material and look forward to seeing it everytime. Non-Fiction Days is one of my Top 5 All-Time favorites from the Maids which is saying something with the vast volume of great tracks from this incredible band. This is the one band that a Top 20 would be difficult to crack let alone a Top 5. Nonetheless, I do believe the track GLORY is another track that reminds me of Non-Fiction Days as far as style goes. I do believe it is a track that you have not reacted to. I feel it is also worthy of a Top 10 Band-Maid list.

You know, the part that you stated "This section always reminds me of some 90s song, I can never place it!"? Ya well, I feel the same way. I know the visuals reminds me of Slipknot's Psychosocial, but the melody itself... hmmmm..... The bass and the jangly guitar riffs triggered something in my memory bank that told me exactly the same thing as you stated, when I first heard this song. I brushed it off, thinking I was alone in that feeling, till I watched this video. Now, if only someone would help us here....

Band Maids discography is pretty ridiculous. I can throw a playlist containing every album and single release on random and not feel the need to skip songs. The only other band I can do that with is Kings X. Also if you haven't sometime you need to check out "Beauty and the Beast" off New Beginnings. That song easily is a prototype for much of what would come ahead, they clearly learned a lot from it.

Might be my favorite song from them out of all of them..not an easy thing to say! ...I believe that the only other band I remember having this kind of listening experience with was Pre-Hagar Van Halen...album after album, no bad songs, most of them blowing me away in one element of another... Nothing against Hagar era, I just had started to drift into more thrash type metal sounds with the rise of Metallica, Venom, F'in Slayer, Exodus...it's still fun to back back and check that out once in a while after going through several other genres since then...Band Maid is my goto band at the moment, still love the rest that don't need mentioning and a few that do...particularly Yajima Mai (i.e., Apocalypse)...and Mardelas (i.e., Eclipse)... How do you put out BabyMetal level quality music and only get a couple thousand views on your MV? SMH... Great review!

Ryan< greetings! This week is cold and one would feel better staying home listening to reactions! LOL But I will have to go out, although I should not complain, Shizuoka being with Okinawa, the only place in Japan now where it does not snow! This is one of their older (and better at that time) songs. They look so much younger, especially Saiki. Their garb is still that of their beginning! I think I mentioned it before, but Misa is still playing on a 4-string bass! Always a great initiative to go back to their beginnings to realize that they already had so much talent and to measure the road they walked all that time! Looking forward to your next reaction, but before that I will have to go out and buy myself a bottle of sake (I must not forget the bleedin' Dragon's wine!)! Best regards, Robert-Gilles

100% agree about liking them even more each time, and how largely unheard of that is even for those of us who are the most voracious music fans. And it honestly applies to pretty much every single song of theirs for me. Warning! for instance came out almost exactly a year ago and it has not diminished one iota for me. It is just as thrilling and arresting and vital as the first time I heard it. Other bands I love, that I consider prolifically great, may have 2 or 3, in some cases maybe even 10-20 songs that manage to do that for me (thinking Zep, Stones, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, My Morning Jacket, Dinosaur Jr, Cannibal Corpse, Mastodon, AC/DC...those kind of pantheon bands). Hell, Guided By Voices probably has a minimum of 300 songs I truly love, probably more....but not many that never lose a even a bit of sheen after a dozen or so listens. Until now I'd never encountered a band where pretty much ever single song they've ever recorded has that quality, and the idea of filler doesn't even seem to be in the equation. Sure there are a (very) few songs I'm not so hot on, that maybe sound slightly stock, or pedestrian, or derivative by their standards, but usually when I listen to even those I end up being blown away by at least something going on and I end up thinking it was better than I remembered. Almost 2 years into this band and I'm still astounded by everything they do....the songwriting, the musicianship, the stage presence, the top notch gear and production quality, the charm and grace and fun of their stage personas and offstage camaraderie, the contrast of what of course is at least at first blush a "gimmick", a contrivance...but at the same time has an authenticity and vitality and creative URGENCY that can't be faked.

I like how you describe that they have these riffs that could be entire songs, but it's just a passing thing for them. That lends so well to the complexity and nuance of the song. And I can relate on feeling a bit cliche and a broken record at times, and for me, I feel that way because there are these elements they bring into each song that, after listening to so many of their songs (and I still have A LOT to listen to yet), you should come to expect that they're going to try throwing you for a loop, but every single time, it catches me off-guard. I think that's an aspect of their music that makes it so fun. You know they're going to throw something unexpected at you, but you don't know when or what it's going to be. They are certainly creative.

Forever young. Not sure how much longer they can stay with the maid outfits since they are on the cusp of middle age. I hope they still rock out like Show-Ya but other than the singer everyone else looked like someone's grandma. Let's just say the singer was the only one who looked fantastic in her outfit.

Thx for the wonderful reaction. I love this song, and have re-played it too many times to count anymore. Overall, for me personally I think I put this song in the lower half of Band-Maid's catalog - so how incredible does that make their catalog?

Ryan, new subscriber here. Band Maid got my attention one night on graveyard shift in a factory. I saw the thumbnail of Band Maid (Thrill)as the next song. Thought it was going to be some JPop band that I was going to skip. I’ve been blown away since the first chord. I agree with your parting comments… this band gets better and better the more I here them! Rock On

The Non-Fiction Days use to be their go-to closer. When the song ended, the Maids would give Miku her few seconds to say goodbye, bow, and then all quickly walk off stage. The crowd felt like they'd been run over by a speeding freight train of awesomeness. It all felt so good and the fans wanted more! But they were leaving... until next time!

@@sjnix7044 And many other concerts of 2016 & 2017. One reason Miku would say goodbye and walk off so quickly is because in Japan, the crowds were much more subdued at the end (even though they loved the performance) compared to the americans going wild and shouting more, more, more after their last song. The Mexican fans were even louder. But they were closing with The Non Fiction Days back then.

A lead guitarist from some time ago said that every solo is like a little song, it has a beginning, a crescendo and an end. I'm pretty sure it was Richie Blackmore but not positive. He was really good at them, so it likely was him.

Got my first delivery. Check my profile pic. XL, sung fit. That mysterious section reminded me of The Doors for some reason... I discovered The Maids about the same time you did, and the same reaction.. MISA pulled me in big time. I think she is the most natural jammer, she lays down the groove. But Kanami, she is the other side of the music brain, the genius composer, she structures the house others play in.

Following her hands? She's counter balancing all that power! Most Band-Maid songs remind me of something you can never place. I'm still trying to figure out which anime song the last section of 'Secret My Lips' reminds me of and I have yet to do it. If anyone knows please respond to this comment. And you sir are correct! It's not that she can't shred. She only shreds when it fits the song. I would rather hear a great solo than see a guitarist that needs to be put on a leash because they feel the need to show off every chance they get. She does write the over all marketecture. She even put in the backing tracks and suggest parts for MISA and Akane. Of course they do their own thing, they have to. Akane will complain, "This drum part cannot be played by a human." But some how she always comes up with something.
