I started biking this past summer to lose weight - 70 pounds down the last time I weighed in, and that was before I started bike commuting. When I'm riding my bike, I'm actually having fun on my way to work, which is more than I can say about driving to work. I have so much fun riding my bike that I decided to make it my main form of transportation. After challenging myself to go car-free for a month in January, I decided to take the plunge. I'm selling my car next week and will be riding my bike exclusively for work, pleasure, and fitness from now on. With the proceeds from the car (a whopping $750), I'm planning on ordering a Priority bike (probably the the L Train). That'll be my main bike, and my current bike will be my back-up. Your videos have helped inspire me to take this leap at the age of 56 years young, and I really appreciate what you do.

good stuff here my man. i've been car free for a cpl years now and while it is super convenient and in some ways and circumstances needed to own a car i find if you have one you always opt to use it. since i've been walking and cycling everywhere for everything it also forces me to consider whether i actually need what i'm buying and prvents impulse buys when i go to stores. for me not having a car re-enforces self control and saves me a shit ton of money. and im not even gonna get into the mental peace i've realized since forgoing an automobile. what i mean is in a car over time we become impatient to an unacceptable degree imo and if you are walking or cycling i just find for whatever reason that hurry up and urgency etc that makes us impatient doesn't seem to happen. i think it's because i do my best thinking daily on my treks to work or the store. it's akin to moving meditation. lastly it keeps us closer to that natural reward man feels when he works for his needs directly not through surrogate activities like a job which is too far removed subconciously from obtaining your basic needs. i am not saying jobs are bad btw, just that we should work more directly to meet our needs whether it be raising animals or farming for your own food or trekking and cycling to buy them. the point is some effort needs to be applied directly to fulfill that basic need in order for your brain to asscociate it as a reward for the effort.. working, then getting a check and then driving to the store does not fulfill the mind in the same way because eating that meal is so far removed from the effort it took to meet that need.

Why I have a car for the first time in years...Mom lost her license and now I'm her driver. While watching this I had the thought to leave the car at her house and ride the bike there for her trips. Absence of car payment and insurance and maintenance and fuel = more money for the good stuff at the grocery store.

My wife & I have 3 grown daughters. I was insuring 5 cars. The most expensive to insure was our old minivan. It was also the least popular. Since our auto and home were bundled, it was cheaper to cover all 5 drivers for all 5 cars. So I sold the minivan for $3000 and biked to work for a year. After an injury, I got an electric car ($5000). I built an electric bike yesterday, and I’m about to go pick up groceries…

FYI, making your own almond milk is far cheaper and easier and healthier. Take 12-20 raw almonds, soak in spring water (no tap water: unhealthy) for 6-8 hrs. Drain the water Put almonds in blender Add 2 cups of spring water (no distilled water: no flavor) Hit the High button and blend the bejimanies out of it - it'll turn white, ergo "milk". You can strain the pulp or use as is (add a drop or two of your favorite flavoring: vanilla, cacao powder, etc. Be sure to use within 2-3 hrs. May spoil and/or seperate. No added sugars. No added thickeners. No preservatives. Just plain good ol' almond milk. If you strain the pulp, DON'T throw away. Instead, spread pulp on tin foil/cookie tray and dry on low heat in the oven. Then sprinkle on salads or breakfast cereals (Old Fashioned oatmeal), add to smoothies, etc I like to start a soak in the morning. Then blend around 6 pm and immediately use it to make overnight oats.

I like this video. Got a new apartment ...no car...30 min walk to the grocery store....just found a better option for loading up and hauling lots of bags with no car! 😁😁😁😁

any of you guys ride with these on HP/LV road tires? am afraid the extra weight might do a number on my flat rate, but i'm definitely at the point where i want to retire the car from grocery runs, which is pretty much the last thing i use it for. thoughts?

How’s the flat rate? Did you change tires?

Your videos helped to persuade me to sell my car and switch to alternative methods of transportation.

Fantastic. Do you ride bikes?
@OrthodoxofUSA Жыл бұрын
@@denverspin I did when I lived in the city. I had an adult trike and rode the bus. However, when I moved out to the country I got a car again, since I live far from everything. I'd like to be car-free again, but that's difficult when you live off a dirt road 17 miles from town. I miss being a car-free biker more than anything else from my time in the city, but I'm still much happier out in the country.

Really enjoyed your video! Myself and my wife love to take our bikes as much as possible whenever.

Damn, I thought I was the only one who never had a car nor the desire to have one, ever.

I have a great question. Having that nice equipment is great, but how do you keep it from getting stolen. Where I live, your rig would disappear in no time. That lock you used only keeps honest people from walking/riding off with your stuff

I want to bike segment 22 of the Colorado trial to Durango! Need tips on carrying food on bike instead of on my bad back. Unfortunately I have to drive 1000 miles from Des Moines to bike there :(
