Holy F#ck dude, that looked insane, those clouds looked like snow on the ground. Some really great shots man, I loved the shots of that bird/parrot or whatever it was haha, epic!
@itsryanwilkes7 жыл бұрын
Haha I know right! It was pretty insane. That bird is called a Kea (pronounced like the car company Kia) and they are the worlds only parrot that lives in an alpine environment! And they are only found here on the South Island of New Zealand. Pretty amazing birds 😁

From Auckland you would fly to Christchurch or Queenstown (1 hr flight) and then drive. Its about 2 hours drive from Queenstown, and about 8 hours from Christchurch. Those mountains are beautiful!!

How do you get such stable footage (smooth and not shaky) and how do you keep your b roll original and not repetitive?
@itsryanwilkes7 жыл бұрын
For the stable footage I use cameras that have good in body stabilization (Panasonic GH5, G85, GX85). I also use a gimbal for the shots that I need to be very very stable and smooth. As for the b-roll, I just always try to shoot different angles use different focal lengths and lenses. Wide shots, close shots, low shots, high shots, and always mixing it up!

The Path Less Traveled Many thanks for your reply. We are planning to go to Kepler in this coming April. We are thinking of renting a car but to let the car at the parking lot unused for the 4 days while we do the trekking is not the ideal thing. Is there any other option to rent a car from Queenstown to Te Anau for just one day only? We dont want to take bus as driving a car would be much enjoyable in our opinion
@itsryanwilkes7 жыл бұрын
You could take a bus from Queenstown to Te Anau, but as you said it wouldnt be as nice! We left our car at the parking lot in Te Anau with no problems =)

Not the "greatest hike" by a long way. It's only to attract tourists, and keep them away from the "pearls" the locals visit, where there are no impersonal 40 bunk huts, no people shining lights in your eyes, no music disturbing your sleep, no constant chatter, no whining, no illegal drones, no "entitlement" and best of all - solitude with a like-minded companion. On these Great Walks there is little opportunity to hear bird song, natural sounds like wind through tussock and water moving, and they've been overtaken by the necessity of DOC schedules and commitments.
