I Loved Playland ever since I was a kid . I would be very upset to pay all that money and to have half the rides closed ! I would ask for a free pass to come back another day ! IPlayland was at its best in 70’s . They had a lot more thrill rides that Playland should bring back . The Roc-o-Planes, Over the Top , the Flying Scooters , The Turtle Chase , the original Monster Mouse , the Spyder , the Twister and the Tumbler by Chance Amusement was the scariest ride Playland ever had ! Should also bring back the Spin-Art Machines !

Just a New Yorker here to give you some info on this park. I haven't been to Rye Playland since 2005 and, wow, so much has changed and so much has been removed. Back then, they still had the Pay-Per-Ride tickets booklet but it was, from what I remember, about 30 tickets for a value equivalent of what the bracelet costs now. The problem with that is that each ride was about 4-5 tickets to ride each time and back then the park had A LOT more rides. Around 2004 or 2005, they began to implement the bracelet along with the tickets and the bracelets were far more popular because you could get on as many rides for the entire day and it was only maybe $10 more than the tickets. Playland is being renovated and with that renovation, about 13 rides were axed between 2021 and 2024 only to have 2-3 new rides added. They used to have a viking-like long ship ride called the Sea Dragon which my siblings and I we were forbidden to get on because of the lack of safety measures. They used to have a large ferry that you could pay to circle around the area which I think they got rid of but the paddle boats are still there. The bumper cars used to be faster but so many people got injured on it; my brother suffered very bad neck pain from the whiplash and swore never to ride it again. I remember they had the Double Shot but they had an even longer one that went down only once very fast. If things look new in Playland, it's because it is, like the fountains and beautiful foliage. Also, due to our harsh winters, there's no way they can renovate Playland during the winter.

Love the way you present the parks! You bringing in the parks history, reviews of the theming, small details, the comparisons to other parks and rides, and your own history with all the parks, into a mish-mash of prime quality content! 🥰🎉🥳 And Charlottes reviews are great as well! 💖 I'd love to have a job like yours, but you both do it so well, so I'd rather watch you guys! 😂🥳🎉

I wish I knew you guys were going to be at Playland. I would have liked to say hello. I grew up right next door to Playland, in a house almost adjacent to the parking lot. I'm 66 years young now so this goes back to the 70s. Some interesting facts for you: Playland was owned and operated by Westchester County since its inception in 1928. They operated at an average loss of 4 million per year. It really did fall into a state of disrepair over the years. Standard amusements is slowly and systematically upgrading the park. Ye Olde Mill - I'm glad to see they are finally refurbishing it. For the past few years, more and more of the displays stopped working. It was refurbished and re-themed decades ago by Sally corporation. I was in it a few years ago and they suddenly stopped the ride and all the lights went on. Apparently some kids were misbehaving somewhere in the ride. The water current slowly slowed down and then the water started flowing backwards. We gently bumped into the boat behind us. We finished the ride with all the lights on and none of the animatronics working. When I was a teen I used to go in there off-season and walk through the Olde Mill where the water normally would be. It was scary with ancient paper mache trolls and dragons in there. Dragon Coaster - Used to be awesome with the old heavy Prior & Church trains. All that tonnage going over the track made it fast and furious. Unfortunately they replaced these incredibly beautiful trains with lightweight Morgan trains to ease wear and tear. The ride is much slower and less exciting now. At least they did a cool dragon scale wrap on them. But it's not the same insane ride it was when I was young. I may or may not have climbed to the top of the lift hill during off-season. ;) Derby Racer - Used to run 5 mph faster. It's still very fast though. Every once in a while they repair the jogging mechanism which is what makes the horses move forward and back relative to each other. The jogging mechanism consists of an incredibly complex array of cables underneath the platform that is a nightmare for maintenance. The horses differ from the horses on the other two existing Derby Racers in that they were carved by the legendary Charles Illions. Just look at the life that he breathed into them. The horses go up and down not by an overhead crank, but rather they ride on wheels on an undulating track underneath the platform. Each horse is essentially a small roller coaster riding up and down on the track. Rye Motorbike Factory - It's hard to believe they paid 4 million dollars for this thing. It is very delicate and parts are breaking off each year (mirrors for example). The motor sound has this weird sharp cutoff as it plays, and the horn sound is that of a car, not a motorcycle. I predicted the thing would fall apart in no time and unfortunately my prediction was correct. Much too delicate. I rode last year and some of the motorcycles didn't even go up and down anymore. Grande Carousel - Actually built in 1915 by Mangels. It was initially in a town in Connecticut but was brought to Playland in 1928. It is a one-of-a-kind gem with absolutely gorgeous horses. A fire about 4 years ago forced a restoration and they did a beautiful job. New bearings in the cranks and it is nice and smooth. It has a beautiful ancient Gavioli organ playing in the center. One of the most beautiful carousels in the world today. Jack the Puppeteer - I've not ridden this one yet, but it looks very smooth. It's a new take on the old Octopus (aka Spider) with a much more efficient loading capability. The theming is quite striking and they did a great job with the cue line theming too. Zombie Castle - An original Laff In the Dark ride from 1928. Has a real old-fashioned vibe. Back in the day you would ride through the tunnel which had glowing stars on it. The tunnel would slowly rotate and it felt like you were spinning to the right because your perception was that the tunnel was fixed and it was you that was turning. It is pretty intense in terms of graphic gore so it may not be suitable for young children. The Flying Witch was unfortunately removed and is now up at Niagara Park waiting to be assembled there. Standard Amusements needs to get it together and inform people via their website about what rides aren't working on any given day, like most amusement parks do. It's a shame that you guys were denied so many rides that were not working. I hope this was an interesting read for some who would like to know more about Playland. Oh, one more thing. For a year, Playland had the legendary Tumbler. Only one was ever made. I used to ride it all the time. There was something about it that made it look like an absolute monster. If you are interested in more, Google "Chance Tumbler". Oddly there is very little video in existence of this ride operating. There's a good picture of it online still at the Chance factory being assembled and tested. This ride was an absolute beast. It went to Coney Island for a year after Playland but it was so troublesome to maintain and keep running that it ended up rusting away in a field.

I envy you my friend ! Every time I went to Playland I would always say to myself it would be so great to live right next to Playland and just step out of your house and walk over to the Park ! I use to go to Camp every summer and they would take us to Playland once a week and then I would ask my mother to take me on the weekends ! Playland was at its best in the 70’s and I know the Tumbler by Chance Amusements . I keep posting on here hoping that Westchester County would listen to our requests to bring back the Classic Rides ! Let’s take a stroll down memory lane ….. The Roc-o-Planes, Over the Top, the Flying Scooters , the Turtle Chase , the Catapiller , The Round-Up, the Twister , The Flying Bobs , Laugh in the Dark , Flying Witch , The Pirates Cove . It’s so good to find someone on here that remembers and appreciates the same rides we grew up with ! I also remember they opened an in ground pool with live dolphins near where Over the Top use to be . And 2 of my favorite things that are gone I wish they would bring back were the Iron on decals on shirts and the Spin Art machines ! Great memories. I haven’t been to Playland in ten years since I moved to the West Coast but I’m planning a trip home hopefully this summer 2024

It's an insane ride. The outside horses supposedly travel at 25 mph. You can easily get thrown off unless your left foot is down and your right is up as you lean inwards. The Playland Derby Racer runs much d=faster than the other two in the world.

This park was so lively when I went there as a kid in the early 2000s. Crowds were crazy, we were literally shoulder to shoulder. All the rides were operating, great food and fun treats, and there were hourly shows on that stage, big musical productions! I think they were greatly affected during the pandemic. I did go there last year summer of 2023, and most all the rides that were closed this year (including old mill) was open. Although there were some closed for refurbishments or wasn’t working. Now from what I understand for that park, there has been a history of rides closing due to accidents involving rides starting with people still in the ride area getting their things and stuff so maybe that’s why they said to put belongings outside? Now it was weird they had you put it outside of the queue rather than having a designated area nearby. Anyways, I love PlayLand but I’m sad of what it’s come to. Hopefully I’ll go next year again and there be new things!!

We went there senior trip when I was in 8th grade. Other than some really small kiddie coasters, first one I went on was Whirlwind, which was insane 30 seconds of being upside down. Then I went on Dragon Coaster 4 times and was screaming whole time it felt so intense. I'm not sure why looking at this video, as it looks super tame compared to all the coasters I later went on. A few weeks later my father took me down to Coney Island, and Cyclone was so different. I've been back multiple times to Coney Island for that, but never been back to Playland. For people in NYC, if you want roller coasters you go to Great Adventure.

They need an investor or two , get what is down back up and going as it all looks so cool and go from there. This park has tons of potential with a little TLC. Fix what is wrong first, get people back and go from there. This is an awesome location to build a beach front hotel in the future. That would draw so many beach loving people. The Dragon is great and when I was a kid, on the Derby Racers, an announcer would interactively tell you where to put your feet in the stirrups as it would speed up. It's definitely got the worst reputation of Cedar Fair parks (haven't been to them all so can't say how it compares personally). But it would be interesting to see you all experience it during the summer as part of Michigan "up north" vacation like most locals do. Fun little park- one thing to keep in mind that even though that park just opened, the offerings were probably limited as schools aren’t out sometimes until mid-June…I’m sure their staffing has been limited leading up to opening 🤔 That Dragon Coaster looked fantastic though!

There is a pool and a Children's Museum as well. You could do probably 6-7 hours with more rides open plus the museum. Personally, doing Quassy for Wooden Warrior and then Lake Compounce is slightly better to do together since they are much closer. Get to Quassy for opening, maybe spend 45-90mins. Get lunch on the 30min trip to Lake Compounce, then spend the last 5-6 hours at Lake Compounce

The bag rule is valid. The exit is on the complete other side of the ride so that would require you to push past people on the line to regain your belongings. Also leaving your bag on the line doesn’t make it any safer, we aren’t responsible for your stuff.

At time stamp 42:16 - That carousel looks like the one that was filmed for the Disney film “Something wicked, this way comes” - It was the shutters around the ride that made me think 🧐

And yes, for future reference, any park you visit on the west coast to central USA the water parks and 90% of the water rides will not open until the last week in May being Memorial day weekend as the water rides operate on the same water schedule as the water parks which I do not recommend visiting then as it is the craziest busy days of the whole year with just locals!! You could not pay me to go that weekend!! LOL!! Fun videos! Thank you!!

Wow, what dump. Sad to see. I was looking forward to you exploring this park and it’s history seeing as I’ve only heard bits and pieces about, so much for legacy! The intrusive audio really spoils any of the whimsy generated by the classic rides and Art Deco construction. Too bad. Thanks for the vlog!

That Dragon Coaster is a woody classic what a brilliant ride. Love the dragon tunnel section. Shame that Old Mill water ride was out of action along with lots of other rides. They should have advertised multiple ride closures in advance. Nice end to your American trip TPW crew.😎👍
