As someone who had already read the manga, I actually prefer this backstory. The original was kinda messy tbh, so I was glad there wasn't any of that "taking the name of a dead guy and having Jenny manipulate everyone's memory to make them think he was the real Ryo and that his father had done research on demons" stuff

I completely agree but i prefer the manga's storytelling of it, dead in the night, Ryo goes back to his mansion all alone you can see demons are watching him arrive, creeping ever closer. You're afraid for him, terrified for his wellbeing and then "we've been waiting for you!"

Probably they are CIA agents because in an scene before this if you see very good you can see to the black mans follow him to an airport... Or maybe the CIA was suspecting about Ryo Asuka and their intentions of revelatig to the demons and that soldiers maybe are Navy Seals or some another Unit of the U.S Army, Marines or Navy but whatever they are dead now or they can be an unit from soldiers of Brazil, because in the Spanish version of Devilman that soldiers speak Portugués (sorry i don't know how to say it in that idiom).... I guess they knew before him because he lost his memory at some point, and the lady was watching over him at some point, and so that's how she knew before him because she witnessed it and he forgot?
