This was the 7th how-to video on this Ryobi I've watched. This is the only one that made 100% sense in every aspect of instruction. The others made me contemplate using my bandsaw to remove my head from my body. This presenter must be a great repair/fabrication person. Thank you so much sir. Guys like you are rare to comeby.

Thanks so much for covering all the little blade guide adjustments. I've had my Ryobi for nearly 2 years, and have always had to compensate for blade drift and other quirks which I assumed were just due to the cheap nature of the saw. I didn't realize how far out of adjustment the guides & bearings were. Wow - what a difference when they're all in alignment! It's like a whole new saw. Can't thank you enough.

Very informative video. Seems like fussy adjustments for this model. I'm still considering this Ryobi 9" model or the more expensive WEN 10" band saw. Still haven't decided yet. Have you tried to re-saw a 2x4 or 4x4? Specifically, a full 96" piece of lumber? Or what's the longest length re-saw you think it can take?
@maverickmikekauai35152 жыл бұрын
Aloha K LE, I do get a bit fussy with the adjustments in an effort to get the most from an inexpensive tool. At this point I have not re-sawed any 4X material on the saw. Mahalo for the comment, Mike.

I bought this and it is great for small projects. I would not use this Bandsaw for large pieces of wood because it has its limits. The manual will tell you what size of material you should be cutting. You want large cutting you need kick out the cash for a more expensive bigger machine.

Getting the blade to stay in place is a little tricky. I need to go back and try adjusting my blade guides. It seems it cut ok when I got it. Had to change blades, tried the Avanti 3 pack, and couldn’t get it to cut right at all. After this, I’m thinking it’s the guides? Thanks
@maverickmikekauai35152 жыл бұрын
Aloha Jerry, Make the adjustments as well as you can then make your cuts slowly. This is a hobby level saw so try to work within it's design parameters. If you need a better saw then be prepared to upgrade and spend quite a bit more for a more capable saw. Mahalo, Mike
@ericbrock9387 Жыл бұрын
Jerry, I'm in the same boat. Blade that came on the saw was great. I bought the Avanti 3 pack and they are straight garbage, even with the adjustments. I'm going to try a Bosch blade next.

Could this ryobi bandsaw cut ebony wood?
@maverickmikekauai35152 жыл бұрын
Aloha Nhân, Good question, I have not used it to cut Ebony but I don't see why it would not be able to cut any type of wood that fits within the saw and that the saw blade is in good shape. I loved this band saw when I first got it, but blade adjustments and replacements are incredibly fiddly and annoying to the point I contemplated hulking it across my shop several times.
@maverickmikekauai35152 жыл бұрын
Aloha GT, Yup, I get that it is a fiddly thing to get adjusted properly so that you have the highest degree of accuracy. For a hobby level saw it is ok but for a shop or serious woodworker it would not be the first choice for a band saw. Thanks for the great comment. Mahalo, Mike

I have the older Blue model, and it has some better concepts, and definitely some worse concepts. The blue model has traditional squared cooling blocks which I like better. However, the thrust bearing was designed with the blade running against the flat face of the bearing... it makes the entire saw junk imo. The older model also has the dust brushes, but they are mounted to the frame, rather than the door. So they're easier to setup. It also has one large door vs two smaller, sectional doors. The older model also doesn't have a very good lower wheel adjustment. I can never get the blade, and motor drive belt to both run at a good spot. So I make sure the blade is lined up right, and just kinda hope that the ⅓ of the drive belt hanging off the edge won't be a big issue. Lol.
@bigviper64 Жыл бұрын
Your hand was in the way for the Lower Blade Guide Adjustment. Nowhere has it been mentioned to turn CW or CCW to tighten or loosen the adjustments. Just “briefly” you pushed on the small black button on the side of the adjustment aperature…you didn’t say here that we need to do that. I have had all kinds of trouble getting my Band Saw to cut a straight line and so far everyone say’s these adjustments are easy..no clear instructions!

Way to much fine tuning. It is very incomplete, obviously, when they ship it. In my experience, when you have this much fine tuning at the beginning, then when you need the slightest adjustment you have to keep doing more fine tuning and no cut is the same, especially on a band saw, ie. Width and length and thickness when trying to make curved pieces and the like. If you are a professional and this is your job (earning money) then who cares how much fine tuning, YOUR AT WORK AND YOUR TIME IS BEING PAID. But guys and gals that just want to get right in and work a hour or two, maybe three, we want to work not fine tune and sharpen all day and if you aren't great at it, well, it takes all day. The industry has to wake up and make things ready to go in two minutes. Blades put in and press button and wheels aline the blade in 30 seconds and then you cut, so the wheels do the work, I'm not being paid. The problem with these videos is that these guys get paid. We all would sit there for 2 hours (and I know they make mistakes in setting things up, thus the video would be longer but they cut all the waste out) if we were paid 2 or 300 dollars for the hours. Maybe I don't have the patience but I also have a live and most guys and gals are on the move and you will also notice that (for the most part, outside of certain young guys wanting easy money) all the people are older woodworkers or just older white guys buying and selling these things and that's because 1) they did it for many years or 2) they are retired or semi-retired. Occasionally you get the young lady, but if not for KZbin and her coping things from the beginning they would not be woodworking, let's be honest. Sorry so long, but again, set up is always the worst and anyone that I know that does construction (including me), outside of fixing a door or a faucet or something in their home, well, DOES NOT DO THEIR WORK OUTSIDE OF BEING PAID FOR IT. Take away KZbin (and in the 80s you could count theses people on one hand) and no one would be a "carpenter" and 99% of these people are not true blue carpenters. Sorry, but I thought it had to be said (Lol;Hahaha). God Bless brothers and sisters Especially if you made it this far. P.S. and if you didn't make it this far then you know my frustration and boredom in trying to use a plastic Chinese tool, and that is a whole another subject that these great woodworkers gloss over.
@maverickmikekauai35152 жыл бұрын
Aloha James, You had some good observations and provoked some thought which is good for everyone. This only a hobby level tool, a serious woodworker most probably never consider purchasing this item. However, I personally learned new things making the adjustments and these adjustments on this tool have a lot in common with professional grade bandsaws. I don't make any $ from making these videos and I am retired so the time it takes is not an issue. If the video helps someone else set up their bandsaw then I am happy with that. Thanks again for the good observations. Mahalo, Mike
