I live on the East Coast of Vancouver Island about half way up the island. I have a Ryobi SINGLE STAGE blower, we have damp to wet snow,I was very impressed by my unit which uses two 40V 7.5AH batteries. I clean off my drive (30x40ft) and my sidewalk and next doors (4.5x100ft) of 3 inch deep snow on one charge. When the snow is wet, I do half the width of the drive and both sidewalks. After a heavy snow fall, about 4 inches, it rained all day, I didn't hold much hope for clearing the drive and sidewalk, I'll tell ya, that thing threw wet snow, slush and water a good distance. My only gripe about the single stage is that really, really wet snow clogs up the opening to the chute. I'm glad I bought the blower.

@timhardman47642 жыл бұрын
Joseph, your comment would be more valuable if you included just a little more data. I assume the 28" relates to the depth of snow. Variables in order of importance: Depth of snow: was it 28" uniformly over the area you cleared snow or was it one small spot and the rest of the area was 6" deep? Moisture Content of Snow: Not all snow is alike - dry powdery snow weighs 1 lb/sq ft. Heavy wet snow weighs up to 21 lbs/sq.ft. Drifted: Was the snow packed down in volume due to drifting. Area: did you "clear 28" on a 15' x 2' sidewalk (30 sq ft) or 100' by 16' driveway" (1,600 sq ft) Power used: how many bars/lights did you start with and how many did you end with. Did you have to recharge the batteries and if yes how many times? How long did it take you to do the total job? What was the temperature when the snow fell and when you removed it with the blower? Did it cut through the snow bank at the end of your driveway where the snow plows came by? What city do you live in? If you can answer these questions, your review will be very valuable to those considering this tool when claiming 28". I love battery powered tools and cars but I can guarantee you, this blower could not cut through a 10 foot length of 28" deep wet snow. As the reviewer said, this is a mild winter climate blower, good for avg. snowfalls of 5" of dry to moderate wet snow with a small driveway 25' long, 16' wide ( 400 sq ft). This much snow on that small of a driveway can be removed by shovel almost as quickly as the blower if you are an average fit male adult. Snowblowers are most useful for the big wet snows of 8"- 15" with driveways in the 50' - 100' lengths and those need the power of a 10hp + 2 - stage blower to get the job done quickly. Maybe someday there will be an electric equivalent to the 10hp 2-stage gas blower in power and battery longevity but it's not here yet.

@Ty.922 жыл бұрын
@@billsedutto8824 yeah man no problem. However, just keep in mind that there are three factors on whether or not a leaf blower would work: 1- amount of snow 2- the type of snow. If it’s very wet and slushy snow a leaf blower may not do the trick. It’s great for the fluffy powder type of snow that hasn’t melted or started to freeze. 3-you need a good leaf blower, I have a husqvarna 570bfs backpack blower. Just so you have an idea. Good luck 👍🏻

I was a bit apprehensive because I viewed a video on one that stopped operating after a few minutes, but because it was older and the only one, I decided to go ahead and purchase it. Well you know it happened. Stalling and starting back up and stalling again. I couldn’t believe it. Good thing HD has a great return policy. Now, you cant find a snowblower anywhere. I went through three of the single stage 40v snow blowers in two months. First was an 18" and the next two were 21". All three did EXACTLY as you just described. The 21" model came with a free leaf blower that I started using to move the snow after the snowblower failed. Leaf blower failed as well. Couldn't swap out the leaf blower for a working one because there were none in stock. Ryobi said they wouldn't ship out a new one until I had it shipped to an authorized service centre at my own cost to have them determine if it could be repaired. Fortunately there was a local shop authorized to deal with them so I dropped it off. When I went back to Home Depot to swap out the 3rd lemon snowblower, they said they had no more in stock so I would have to either take it to the service centre for repairs or they would give me a refund, but I would have to return the leaf blower that came with it at the same time. I said the leaf blower had been in the shop for two weeks already but I hadn't heard from them yet. Home Depot says when I get the leaf blower back or get a new one from Ryobi I can bring everything back for a refund. Went back to the shop to see if they'd had a chance to look at it. Receiving area was full of Ryobi snowblowers and leaf blowers. She said they had 13 come in over the last few weeks. Was the leaf blower repairable? Yup, it was a bad something or other and the parts are on back order. I asked if they could just send me a new one do I can go ahead and get a refund. They could try, but everything comes from the Southern US and it would likely be several months. Return window at Home Depot would have expired by then. I said just give me the broken one back. She had the guy put it back together and I took everything back. Guy at Home Depot starts grilling me on how I could have broken 3 snow blowers and a leaf blower in two months, suggesting that they might not be able to give me a refund because I'm breaking them. Fortunately a supervisor stepped in and said take them back, there's a problem with them and they aren't selling the anymore. Not surprised to check the Home Depot website while I was at the service desk to see the model had disappeared completely. I have screenshots of the Home Depot website that show they were deleting dozens of 1 star ratings and reviews to manipulate the satisfaction level which went from around 60% recommended to 85% recommended. I'm currently investigating options with Consumer affairs. I'm glad some people are having success with the Ryobi 40v system. I've been building a very nice collection of 18v tools for many years and have been very happy with them. I was excited to start replacing my gas powered lawn and garden tools with the Ryobi 40v line, but am seriously gun shy now and will likely end up starting with a more reliable brand. My almost weekly trips to Home Depot have likely come to an end as well.

But for all my patios, walkways, parking bays etc. this looks just right -- presuming it's self-propelled.

Excellent, balanced review. I had a Murray for 10 years and it cost me $500 in maintenance parts. If I had to pay for the labour, the total would have been double and THIS is where an Electric scores. They are easy to operate (push a button), very reliable and very low maintenance. If you keep using this without charging the batteries. I'd like to know what you think your total run time is on all 4 batteries. Before it's dead. I live in NE Ohio. I plow snow commercially. We often have to shovel the walks at 2 hospitals. And several other stops. This would save time. I'm seriously considering this model. I have a lot of Ryobi 18v tools. I like the size of the intake if snow it can handle. As well as the reverse feature. I don't need heated grips. So I'd save battery power there. The lights would help in a few spots. This thing would pay for itself in one or two nights. On my commercial work. It's not a commercial grade. But it would still work great on cement sidewalks. Would be cool to take it for a test run.

I just love what you said ( IF YOU GET 4 OR 5 INCHES OF SNOW YOU'RE GOING TO LOVE IT ) The majority of people looking at this snow blower would not be looking at it for 4 or 5 in!! That would be a complete waste.. I CAN'T STOP LAUGHING!! IF YOU GET 4 OR 5 INCHES OF SNOW YOU DON'T NEED A TWO-STAGE SNOWBLOWER! YOU COULD USE THE MAN PLOW SHOVEL THAT COST $70!! Or a small single stage battery powered snowblower that cost 1/3 the price of this.. And if you don't have really big property you only got 4 or 5 inches. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND A CORDED SINGLE STAGE 15 AMP SNOW JOE SNOWBLOWER. FOR ABOUT 200 BUCKS!! I've used these type for years And they work fantastic for 6 in or below. The key is having a good hundred ft outdoor cord That is very flexible like the yellow kind. It's easy to move the cord in and place it where you need it. PEOPLE YOU DO NOT NEED A TWO-STAGE SNOWBLOWER FOR THIS AMOUNT OF MONEY THAT'S ONLY GOOD.FOR 4 OR 5 INCHES!! PLEASE DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY... Please take my advice.. WHAT HE SHOULD HAVE SAID!! By the snow blower if you needed for 6 in and above for a small property that you only need a runtime of about 30 minutes to finish the job.. unless you want to buy another 1 or two 2 sets of batteries and chargers to go with it!!

So , would it be fair to say that with deep snow the batteries would last approx. 12 minutes ?? going by that this was a 10:23 minute video and the power dropped pretty fast .

I have a Ryobi mower with one 40v battery. So, if I got this snowblower it would come with 4. So I could potentially just buy 1 extra battery and rotate with 6 all together?

I live in the sierra nevadas where it snow but it’s a little warmer here. The snow is a very wet and heavy. It’s nicknamed sierra cement. I have seen gas snowblowers only able to throw it 3-5 feet. Is this stronger than a smaller gas snowblower? How long did the batteries last? Those batteries are around 159-241 each

My 10 yr old gas unit is no longer working (auger doesn't work, not the belt, I checked it) and am seriously considering going with a Ryobi battery powered unit. My only concern is clearing the ice/snow dam at the end of my 3 car garage driveway that the plows leave behind. Sometimes this damn can be 20" high (or higher) and packed with ice and snow mixture. Do you feel this unit could work it's way thru that dam? Great video btw!

Like you I also have an Ariens snow blower mine is 20 years old with a Tecumseh 8.5HP engine. It's been great but after 20 years of mild residential usage it's loud and spewing exhaust which I find choking. Looking for something quieter and less emission cleaner at point of use. Like the robustness of the Ariens vs the plastic Ryobi. Waiting for better B.E.V. technology to trickle down to snow blowers. Would like to see this tech on a tried and true snow blower manufacture such as Ariens, Toro or Simplicity. Thanks for the review.

Throws far, but the unit is unstable on packed snow. Probably not heavy enough or simply unbalanced.
@ryanxyz12 жыл бұрын
How heavy is this thing considered it has no engine I need a 2 stage snow blower that I can lift to and from my truck I do that now with a single stage but if this is really light as light as a single stage I'm grabbing it

It's heavy. No way one person is lifthisbinto anything. Just being honest

Snowblower is impressive. But when u get unpredictable snow storms here in ne that good drop a foot or more and have a large driveway, gas is unbeatable.

I got this snow blower last year and we had a very big winter and it only lasted a little over a month. I got it because our neighbor got it and really liked it. About a week after mine broke and I had returned it, my neighbors broke as well. It was a great little machine until it wasn't. Would not recommend this snow blower.

4 0r 5 inches of snow from time to time? I sure hope it can handle more. my single stage snow blower does. I guess it also depends on how big of an area you have to clean but mine more than does a 4 car driveway.

I currently have a Snow Joe two stage snowblower. It uses 2 batteries and I get about 30 minutes of run time out of it in heavy snow (6+ inches). I have extra batteries that I swap, so I get about an hour of total run time on 4 batteries. How does the Ryobi compare for total run time? (I know various factors can increase and decrease runtime, just looking for a ballpark average)
@ToolReviewZone2 жыл бұрын
About 45 minutes with 4 batteries and 6" of snow brother

@@ToolReviewZone Thank you. So sounds like Ryobi will be a viable upgrade once the Snow Joe dies.

Can you comment on the requirements stating that it needs to be stored in above zero temps? Any other drawbacks....
@ToolReviewZone2 жыл бұрын
It's actually for battery charging. It's fine to store in the cold, ut the batteries won't charge if super cold outside (below freezing) that's basically all battery platforms though.

Don't like having to deal with a four battery setup. A two battery setup does the job just as well and allows you to swap out easier leading to less downtime. The heated handles are a nice touch, but cold hands are mitigated by a decent pair of gloves. Looks like it does the job though, just don't like the 4 battery thing.

So I know the batteries can be used in other Ryobi machines / tools- but four of them? A concern I have is that the batteries would simply not get enough use unless Ryobi makes a electric bike or something.

You did a great job on the video that’s definitely one of the most amazing Ryobi products that I’ve ever seen but if they’re giving you four batteries they should’ve given you four of the 7.5 amp hour batteriesThat would be like a whole Nother battery like five but other than that it looks pretty good pretty amazing again you did a great job on the video thanks a lot

I'm not against the battery snowblowers, I'm against the price of the battery. These manufacturers can make whatever claims they want, only under the most ideal circumstances will the get 10+ years. Be prepared to pay the equivalent for a new snowblower every 3-5 years. I'd get the Toro 60v if I did
@PaulDo222 жыл бұрын
That's why the battery technology is extremely important. Toro hasn't quite figured that part out yet. Their machines are just standard heavy metal machines with an electric motor thrown on them. They haven't purposefully redesigned them to be more efficient for battery power. Plus their batteries don't last as long and takes forever to charge. It'll be interesting to see who can compete with EGO but so far no one really is.

Here it is nearly September and I’m just watching. Seems to do an OK job. How wet is the snow? Most snowblowers work well in fluffy snow (low moisture), but really bough down in heavy wet snow. I’m in my early 70’s live in Minnesota and still use a shovel. We normally don’t get that much snow at a time where I live, however, average snowfall is around 55” a year. The tires seem a little narrow to me (wider should give better traction. Is there one motor or two motors? Thanks.
