Ryzen 7 8700G Undervolt & Overclock to 5350 MHz feat. ROG Strix X670E-I | SkatterBencher #69

In today's video, I undervolt and overclock the AMD Ryzen 7 8700G processor up to 5350 GHz with the ASUS ROG Strix X670E-I Gaming WiFi motherboard and EK custom loop water cooling.
This APU is the successor to the 5700G which I overclocked in SkatterBencher #24, almost 2 years ago. APUs are always interesting because they’ve got reasonably performing integrated graphics. However, in this video I’m only focused on overclocking the CPU cores. I will check out the IGP overclocking in a next Skatterbencher guide.

Thanks for the video, I always thoroughly enjoy yours. I have one question; what do you use to test per core CO stability to determine the values? (could make for a good video guide) Thanks :) Excited for the iGPU video too.

Thanks for the kind words! I typically first use an application like Corecycler (or the one included with OCCT) to test each core. I let it cycle like 10 seconds to see if it's a pass/fail and for every pass I go down -5 and for every fail go up +5. Usually I first do it with SSE, then when everything is dialed in I also run AVX2 loads to see if it still passes. If all that's good, I run an all-core heavy stress test to see if any cores drop out. Same idea: whichever drops out goes +5. After all that, I run the regular benchmark suite to see if there's anything I didn't quite catch. Usually the benchmarks are fine and that will be my CO settings :)

Should yield some great results, running at least buildzoid hynix timings on these APUs should be a necessity in my opinion, also due to the lower amount of cache.

Using the ddr4 and z590 gear 1 the memory timings tuning result in 230-300fps to 360-470 in cod game 😊 really worth it

iGPU OC won't change much, just in very rare occasions since the 12CUs are heavily bound to RAM latency and speed. The ROG Ally performs marginally slower with only 2300-2400MHz iGPU clock.

My 8700G does 5.3ghz allcore and 2500 FCLK. Idk if you could do another video on the traditional OC style, and how to get maximum DDR5 frequency on these CPUs? That would be very helpful.

@@SkatterBencher Not at all. I meant that you didn't seem to try and max the CPU frequency out, and stopped at 4.95ghz. It would've been nice to see how far the core clocks could go, and how RAM frequency increases would effect the performance as well.

Lower temperature will always help a bit, but it doesn't feel there's that much more headroom.

This board doesn't support Async ECLK mode, so increasing the ECLK would increase everything inside the CPU (including SATA, PCIe). I am planning to switch to a board with async Eclk for Phx2 variants.

Of course. ASUS ROG release BIOS should already have the workaround for STAPM being activated. It was fixed quite a while before launch
