AMD's Ryzen 9 7950X3D promises to be the best of both worlds - offering superior gaming performance compared to the 7950X at the sacrifice of some content creation performance. Can it achieve such lofty goals? In this video Gordon goes over a huge list of gaming benchmarks and compares the 7950X3D's results to AMD's Ryzen 9 7950X as well as Intel's Core i9-13900K and 13900KS. He also touches on the productivity performance offered by each chip for the times where you aren't gaming.

Thank you for the time reviewing these CPUs and updating the numbers with W11 22H2 Gordon. Perfect timing too as I finally upgraded to W11 yesterday 22H2 since I couldn't defer the update any longer and decided to just get it over with. I have to say, the 7950X is alot more stable on W11 as I was able to push the negative curve optimiser more aggressively. The lowest core voltage I've seen is 0.410 v. That's insane, considering the cores are still boosting beyond 5.5 Ghz (5540 Ghz to be exact, all core boost to 5 Ghz under all core load) - had to set all my cores to 5555 Mhz with per core boost settings (with temp limited to 80 degrees c) as not all cores boost to 5.7 Ghz as they used to out of the box due to way too much voltage shoved into the CPU on stock settings. Now only two cores boost to 5.7 Ghz, the degradation happened due to prolonged testing under stock settings as I was trying to reduce and isolate bsods and it turns out it was buggy KB updates as well as a ram timing issue on stock ram settings. I now have the ram undervolted and running at 6000 Mhz with very, very aggressive timings - Zen 4 is a very different architecture and doesn't behave the way you think it will lol. W11 has confirmed my suspicions and instincts that Microsoft is not really focusing on W10 updates at all. Anyway, off to watch the 1st video now lol.

Maybe future AMD CPUs will have 3D vcache on both CCDs. I don't like this with half has it the other doesn't I know why it's done this way but, I don't trust the way windows will handle which CCD gets to use the vcache and which one doesn't. I'm very happy with my 5800X3D and very curious to see the 7800X3D in April 😁 I'm not upgrading at all, no need to.

I know that I'm going to be unpopular here but it would have been nice for you to show some 1440p and 4k results. And a lot of games that you highlighted I don't think a lot of people are playing them much anymore. Obviously I understand that games with benchmarks are good to use and that's fine. For gaming 1440p and 4k are important. At the higher resolutions it will show bottlenecks with the GPU. That's actually more important to me then how a processor performs at 720p or 1080p. Even though there's a lot of 1080p users out there I think the majority of consumers who buy upgrades a lot are moved on to 1440p at least. And the majority of 1080p users likely aren't going to afford a 4090 and a high end 3d cache chip. Personally, I wouldn't even consider buying the high-end chips. On AMD side and Intel side buying the lower end chips and overclocking them would probably be a more sensible thing to do. I'm looking forward to seeing the 7800x 3D performance. Hopefully that will give him more clear indication of where these chips stand. I did slap a like on the video. I always appreciate the work you guys do.

At 32:40. You can buy an Intel Core i7-12700K with almost 30% higher single core perfomance and 53% multicore on Amazon for 250 dollars right now while the 5800X3D is way slower and is 330 dollars on amazon at the same price of the 5900X (that losses against the i7-12700K). i7-12700K also destroys the 5800X3D in Escape from Tarkov, like 25% higher fps and way higher 1% lows. Same for Battlefield 2042, higher fps in Cyberpunk...

Good review but I hope more reviewers put not only 1080p but also 1440p and 4K on their charts. I know It becomes GPU bound at 1440p and 4K but most of us PC enthusiasts play games now at these resolutions and would like to see the difference at these resolutions. Most of those that would buy a Ryzen 7950X3D most likely have an RTX 4080/4090 and a 1440p/4K monitor. Only the extreme competitive gamers would play at 1080p at high refresh rates using these top-end CPUs... which kind of a waste of all that CPU power.

Obviously they do that to try to make the CPU the bottleneck to make differences more visible but realistically the differences at higher resolutions that most people actually use will generally be undetectable in the real world. Really hard to justify the X3D given the overall picture. Either go with 13900K or 7950X unless you're literally an esports player and have the top 0.1% vision and reaction on the planet.

Yeah it was important to test against the 13900KS, for the tens of people who have bought one. I would have rather seen it up against the 5800X3D, it's more relevant. The 13900KS is so far out of the realm of reasonable it's laughable.

Both the 7950x3d and the 13900KS are absurd products but many enthusiasts enjoy them. I like that products like these exist and it's about time AMD launched something cool instead of always being boring and safe.

I am just a little bit disappointed that no one tested the 7950X3D and turned down the X3D CCD as well. There is the 7950X Test sure… but still. The 7950X3D should never be worse than the 7950X3D. Never. And this needs to be testet and ppl need to know this. I know… Windows didnt use the better suited Cores and AMD didnt make sure that the 7950X3D makes the correct assumption so why test something that isnt there… But thats the Thing. It is there. And ppl should get the Info that the 7950X3D has the same capability’s vs the 7950X when it comes to Games. If the 7950X Wins vs the X3D… that is just BS. I know its a Ton of extra Work. I know its kinda unfair. But Reviewers need to do this extra Work. Ppl have also pointed out how bad the 12000 Series Intel CPUs didnt work always perfect at the Start of the Release. Fair. Wasnt many Games but some. And a few Games there was also an Bug where Lenovo or some Programm killed of the Cores and you just couldnt play the Game at all. Was even less Games but still. It was fair to say… look… its not perfect but in Generell it gets that Performance when it works. AMD makes the X3D Chip and you see the 7950X is bit better here and there and everyone assumes its something thats not fixable for the 7950X3D? Why? Thats so strange. You can just force the 7950X Part on the 7950X3D. Problem solved. Maybe i am not understanding it really. But i find it kinda unfair this Time. Not meaning this Channel here alone. This is an overall Critic towards every Reviewer and i think its fair to say… i am not an Fan of the Test. Doesnt mean i hate you Guys now. Or any Reviewer.

Great video! I have to say the 3D cache isn't as impressive this gen against Intel. Sure it helps but it's not the strong win like the 5800x3D was. I still think Intel won this gen but I love the competition. It will be interesting to see where things are when I upgrade in a couple of years.

That's because 4th gen Ryzen is much better than 3rd gen Ryzen. It's harder to get gains when the core chips are already so much better.

if you live in the UK, 100dollars now is nothing. 20 pounds is now like 4pounds at least what it feels like given the massive inflation. So 100dollars is like 20 dollars or so in today's environment, at least in the UK.

"It's just a hundred dollars". It was a hundred dollars last time. It was a hundred the time before. We have gotten to the point that these CPU's cost as much as a server CPU did a few years ago. Is this this CPU worth the money? Nope. On a smaller node and cheaper to produce than the older server CPU's. Funny how people hammer Nvidia for price to performance and expected generational gains, etc... But when it come to CPU's there seems to be a blank check. Vega launched: "Its a server GPU marketed as gaming". Same with Nvidia with the 4090. But they were called out. Not with CPU's.

These intel power hogging chips are a joke. Glad my gaming machine still has the 8700k (game at 4-5k so not too much of an issue there for me) whilst work machine uses 5950x. The KS really makes Intel look stupid. I dont know what they were thinking....

A twitch game like R6S. YEAH I'm really going to see the difference between 600 and 850 fps!!!! NOT!!!!!!!!!!! Now, if 1% lows were down there at 120 fps I could believe it but that data isn't shown. 1% low data is important. Without me seeing that, almost ALL these numbers don't mean anything because they are all ridiculously fast. Humans can only process data so fast and it ain't much better than 120 fps, for 1% lows. If you're above that you're lying to yourself that it matters because human reaction to visuals isn't any better than that. And this is tested by science. How fast the optic nerve can send your brain data. Your BRAIN drops frames. So 2 things. 1% low data matters, so these gaming charts are worthless to me. The other is, just like reviewers have had to do over time, testing games at 480p, 640p, 720p, 1080p, and then more recently testers have started to throw in 2K and 4K into CPU testing, as GPUs get ever more powerful, those older resolutions become outdated. If testers are going to use the 4090 and show results that the brain can't process, it's time to move up, especially when 2K gaming is more relevant now. The 4090 makes 1080p testing almost silly now, and when the 5090 comes out it will be even more silly for testing CPUs at 1080p. And if a game makes a 4090 struggle at 1080p it's so POORLY written that it's not worth giving those game creators any credibility by using that game in a CPU benchmark.

This is crazy. They only should have made a 7800x3d. The higher end models are a waste. The top choices for gaming on an AMD cpu are the 5800x3d and 7800x3d (at the high end of course, not taking into account cost per frame, value, etc.) Why else do you think they delayed the 7800x3d ?
@blkspade23
@blkspade23 Жыл бұрын
It's not a waste at all. People exist with 5950Xs for example that would've liked to have v-cache without giving up cores. The happy with 8 core crowd basically had 5800X3D for 2 years. Not everyone that plays games, just plays games.

@@blkspade23 i just don't think the 3d is necessary on chips with that many cores that can already play the top games without issues, especially at 1440p and 4k, then its mainly down the gpu.
