I personally wanted Lilly to win. Her song stood out and was so special, I would have been hapoy with Makeda or Aly Ryan as well. In Germany it seems (in all casting shows) that whoever performs last, wins. I observed that with many different shows and I've always been right so far. I personally think that Sisters only won because they performed last, maybe we're just jinxed
@Nutzername92a5 жыл бұрын
That's true. And many tv shows even do this on purpose. The keep the best for last, to keep the viewers interested until the end. So it's quite possible that the average German viewer was subconsciously influenced by that. (And also the audience in the studio needs to get warm first. During the first performances, they barely clap... And towards the end everyone gets standing ovations...)

You hit the nail on the head - Aly’s song is a fan favourite but would not make it in the mainstream à la “je ne sais quoi”, “glorious” etc. I love Germany’s song. For me the shoutiness comes across as passion, anger at themselves, urgency. I agree that they look like 2 wolves stalking each other about to fight but this ties into the theme of the song. Sister will become 15th - 20th. Lilly Amoung Cloud had a top5 potential. The winner was designed by Germany‘s broadcaster NDR. I mean, who wonders, why sister and makeda were leading in the international jury , when you put there certain people? Obviously the Austrian and Czech members have a preference for ballads, as you can see from their votes. Then, why is there even a German in that jury, who on top of all happens to be friend with one of the sisters? At Eurovision we never vote for our own country. Should be the same with that jury. Finally putting the show on a Friday... when only middle age and older people watch and call... gives an answer, why sister also won there. Young people went out, that is what they usually do on Friday and Saturday. So also by that, the broadcaster made sure that their favorite act sister will have an advantage. I mean... seven songs, and the worst of all, totally dated won? Oh please! Even Switzerland was smart enough to reject this song... By the way,.. I would actually change the rules of Eurovision: only one song per songwriter allowed to send, and not three for three different countries.

I got the message on my first hearing (which a lot of people don't) and feel like it's one of the songs with substance. Though vocally imperfect, they sounded better than Aly. I also have no idea what is meant by 'electric field'. Those parts sound and look good. (And i mean, yes, the fact that their back was shown more so than the front is a bit distracting)

You are not the only one. I love everything about it. I love the text, which works on three level, I love the staging, especially how the rotating stage reflects the music box melody in the background, I love how it builds…there is still room for improvement, but it was exactly this "we are kind of far away and fighting but we will always circle each other, always belong to each other" which spoke to me.

While it's not in my 'amazing' category, I still think that Sister is an great song, and I actually find the lyrics and staging concept well done (displaying how sisterly relationship is with a spinning table) Yes, the vocals are kinda shouty (please, The Dream by Roko currently is the shoutiest of all until that gets changed), but I think that is something they'll easily fix :D

People are saying it shouldn't be a duel, but I thought it was intentional? Like it's about sister who have been fighting their whole lives, realizing that they should reconcile. 2.99 million people may have watched the German national final, but only around 300,000 people or so voted. My favourite was Makeda, too, btw :) . Metalvision Song Contest That’s a strong list of ladies 😻
@nilerra81815 жыл бұрын
A matter of taste. I'm not German and I usually don't like musical divas either. Jade was the only one to be really loved by German audience here. Sanna or Zlata didn't even make their Top 10 if I remember right 😅
@metalvisionsongcontest70555 жыл бұрын
@@nilerra8181 I know - which is exactly the problem. Because in Eurovision as a whole, these "diva" acts placed well, showing that the German audience as a whole lacks the feeling of what is going to lead to a good place. Notably, it's a "look at me, here I am!" attitude that creates the willingness to attract viewer attention. However, such an attitude requires a healthy amount of narcissism, which is very untypical of Germans. There's always a case to be made for the audience of a country "voting with their heart" and simply sending what the majority likes best. However, don't complain about the bad result if your national taste doesn't line up with the rest of Europe. There are other countries who have had to make the same experience repeatedly, e.g. Portugal.
@Nutzername92a5 жыл бұрын
@@metalvisionsongcontest7055 Yep, it requires narcissism, that was a spot-on comment! We can see the same in football. Other countries have players like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Cristiano Ronaldo, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Didier Drogba etc., who have the necessary amount of narcissism and egoism to just score a goal when others would've passed to someone else and ruined the chance. We just don't have those people in Germany. We're only producing a bazillion of modest and altruistic midfielders, careful and responsible defenders and creative goalkeepers :D It's not in our character to be an "in your face! Look at me!" person.
@nilerra81815 жыл бұрын
@@metalvisionsongcontest7055 Well some divas place high other don't. Germany gaves us the coolest/fresh diva of the decade with Lena so I'm fine with their taste. Also they gave 12 points to Conchita in 2014. Matter of taste I guess I just don't think is narcissism. I prefer when countries vote with their heart as you said or have own personality :) I agree about you can't complain then if you get a bad result. It is what it is.

I completely agree that this was not a good choice... Their chemistry is so produced and you can see it so clear! The staging was too much. Honestly Germany did what they do every year... @0o0Vanilla0o05 жыл бұрын
I have to disagree...I love this song. The message of female solidarity touched me. They shout, but with a purpose behind it. It's in the theme of the song. Sometimes you want to get to a person so much that you want to shout their name. Throughout the song they're trying to reach each other but there's an invisible barrier, because they never seem to be in the same place at the same time... until the end. Other songs were good, but the emotional appeal won over prepackaged (impersonal?) performances in my opinion.

Can’t agree at all. Personally, Sister is a very good song. It’s catchy, powerful, pretty uplifting and at the same time moving. Much better than Ally’s song. Yes, it could be a banger at the Euroclub parties, but it ends where it starts. Boring & repetitive.

I completely agreed with the 100 people from the Eurovision panel who proved that they are real fans and that they wanted to see Aly Ryan with "Wear your love" for Germany which was an amazingly catchy song with a classy, sexy performance. Makeda and Lilly Among Clouds were SO MUCH better than "S!sters" too. It's totally ridiculous how the producers of the preselection pushed their act while giving them the last spot to perform and other strange "coincidences". Even in the charts the two fake Sisters kinda flopped miserably. They are not authentic AT ALL in my opinion! As a German I must say, that it was the best preselction we had since 2012, where it was more of a casting show. It had diverse Songs and artists, who were all good singers with great vocals. Period. I don't necessarily like S!sters that much, but the song is better than the most things in the last year. The reason why they won it I believe the deep problem with Germany in Eurovision. We generally are interested it, but that interest just switches on quickly before the preselction and the actual contest. Furthermore, the German audience doesn't represent the international audience. It's older and has - unsurprisingly - a different taste. This results e.g. in weird result of the televoting last Friday, the three million spectators only casted about 300000 votes. Not that much, if you remember that is about the number of votes Rybak alone got in last year's Melodi Grand Prix with Norway having a population of only 5 million. In Germany you can only vote via landline phone or SMS, some of my friends do not even know what those are. This results in more a televote that overrepresents elderly people and the younger, more internationally voting youth is not having their say as much as they probably should. Because this is KZbin and long comments aren't read that much (Congrats to myself on writing this then...), I might save the other aspects of this problem and possible solutions for the article I will write to apply to become a writer for Wiwibloggs. I still had to say this: My personal favourite was Lilly, because it was touching me in a deeper manner than just getting emotional while listening to it. Though I voted 20 times, she missed to win the televote by kind of a big margin of more than 4%, bye money.

My favorite was Lilly among Clouds artistically. Reminded me of the young Kate Bush. I would have choosen Aly Ryan or Linus Bruhn for Israel. Aly Ryan was a little too much at the pre-selection with the performance, but her song is very memorable with its Parov Stelar-Trumpet Sounds. They all worked on their Song in a Work-Composer Camp and the Sisters were just casted. And it was quite unfair that one of the Singer was in a casting Show before (The Voice Kids) and got 12 Points from her former Team-Leader. Well all the songs were great till decent including Sisters of course. The No Angels poppped up in my mind - they had a song with no big memorable melody. Hope they work on their Harmony Vocals. I think 2019 will be not as successful like 2018 with Michael Schulte. His presentation in the ESC Germany Show proofed why he was so great last year at Esc.

ESC EVA Except that William writes for Billboard magazine and did one of the first big profiles / interviews of Dua Lipa...and did a documentary on Madonna for the BBC, etc 🤣 If all these editors consider him worthy enough to do that stuff, I’m fairly certain he can judge a music contest...

So Sisters was screaming to you and Makeda not? Seems legit :D Makeda screamed the whole song.

I don‘t think Sisters were the right choice. In my opinion Sisters don‘t become last or hit the Top Ten. There will be something in the middle. I voted for Aly Ryan. She had a interesting song and show. The Song from Sisters is nice but nothing special.

just the safe choice... it did not annoy anyone... that's the best achievment of the song. it's a "political" choice by NDR wanting to put some content (women's right issue) into the contest, see North Mazedonia and the exclamation mark should immeditately give them a trademark... but there's P!ink and she owns the exclamation mark and not those to little ladies... of course Aly Ryan was my choice too. Sometimes I guess the actual targetgroup is not watching the show. That's the problem. So if the average televoter is between 45 and 75 years of age you can see Sisters win. Last year, Michael Schulte was outstanding and this ballad was suitable for all generation.

I am confused as to why Makeda did so well. My German Twitter-Bubble unanimously thought she was great but the song was so dull

I'm from Germany. Sisters is an average song you forgot after 15 minutes. Were the others better? I do not think so, but that's a matter of taste. In Germany, in such competitions always win the song that no one hurts, but with which you can't win or at least have a good result.

Lily Among Clouds was croaky because, I believe, she had been sick all week of rehearsal. The TV hosts mentioned that at some point. I wonder, hadn't she been sick, she might have won. Aly was vocally the best imho, but the staging was too much Hollywood - that's what the Germans found off-putting, and a bit cold atmospherically. Makeda, if you listen to her performance, I actually find, at like 2:30, it becomes too shouty
