nice review. I have an S&W Airweight aluminum 438, so it looks like yours (but its' not the scandium material). It had a black ramp front sight, but I had an XS Big Dot installed over the front sight, and it glows in the dark!

I'm a fan of the J-Frames. There are so many to choose from! Keep that 342PD no matter what! You won't be able to easily replace it. Just have it for the collector's sake of it, even if you aren't a collector. If you did get rid of the 340M&P, that's kinda sad but you can replace it with a current production NO LOCK version. That's what I have, although my aim has yet to be mastered with it. The magnum loads I've tried so far are a bit stout for me. However, 38Spl+P is no slouch either. For me, a nice J-Frame is the perfect pocket gun. Obviously it can be carried just about any way you like. I think your original 442 has some style with that shredded finish. Pickled J-Frame. LOL. Seriously, I like it.

I was so fortunate to find a 342 air light TI..38+p used in excellent condition at my local gun shop for 500 bucks..11 oz 👍 but instead of the bantam grips.. I install full size rubber hogue monogrips.. covers the back strap and cushions my hand from recoil.. gets all my fingers on the grip for maximum control.. yeah I can still easily carry it in my right front jeans pocket in a DeSantis Superfly pocket holster.. for self-defense I carry Federal HST + p38 130 grain.. Federal achieves plus p velocity and pressure by seating the huge hollow point deep in the case flush with the case mouth like a wad cutter.. the result is penetration 13 in denim covered ballistic gel full expansion and The recoil is like a light 22 magnum recoil in my 11 oz 342.. these are some of the lightest recoiling 38 I've ever fired

Used to have a 637 over 10 years ago and stupidly sold it. Recently picked up a new 638 with the shrouded hammer and aside for a from the lawyer lock it’s a beautiful gun. No canted barrel or anything. Just curious why you think the quality has taken a dive. Good luck on your exodus from Chicago, BTW. Ohio would be glad to take you in. Similar weather, lax gun laws and three nice major metro areas. Cost of living is very low.

@@weirdshibainu ok based on what? Depends what your goal is. Most gun fights are over in 3.5 shots per the FBI. If you have to discharge your weapon 16 times, you’re more likely to get shot by a cop. I’m no hero. I carry to protect myself and my loved ones my goal by carrying is to get away from the situation. Get back to the car. More shots under pressure more chances to miss and hit a bystander and fuel the anti gun community more ammo.
