panfriedd I think you mean BC. I was watching Ancient Aliens a few years ago and there was an ancient depiction of a giant, in a t-shirt, khaki shorts, and a ball cap banging a gong from 200 yds. Personally I believe he is a timeless force that has been ridding the world of two liters since the beginning of time.

Someday, I hope I have access to a range like yours. What a joy it must be, to be able to step outside your house and do some trigger pulling anytime you feel the urge. God bless you guys, and especially littlest Hickock. I need a wheel gun in my life, but I think I might want a 6-shot .357/.38, and probably an off brand for poor folks. Thanks for the video, guys. Would love to hang out with you both on the Hank Strange daily broadcasts sometime.

Thanks for taking some for team. You're spot on the recoil. I bought my 1st .44 Mag, a 6" 29, over 30 years ago. I don't even care much for full 240gr out of my 4" 629. The video just can't communicate the punch of the full .44 loads, even in a light piece. I have been on a .44 kick lately, and chose the 4" 629PD (25.5 oz) over the 2.75 69, for non-bear country back up & shotshell snake control. My EDC is a HK VP9, and for bear country, I like a G20. Let's not forget, the .44 Mag is a hunting round, and is overpowered for self defense on human threats. .44 special is plenty for SD, especially considering the flinching & follow up issues firing a very high recoil load. As a long time .44 fan, I concur with your typically excellent assessment.
@stevenwagner99123 жыл бұрын
Over the years I have loaded everything from light specials with 180 grain cast up to a hot 300 grain bullet that I call your own personal earthquake load. It would drop a dog pack . Mostly I would shoot a very heavy special or a light magnum. Now I don't have any due to arthritis.

Great video as always!! As an owner of both the 3" 629 and the 2.75" 69, I was more than curious to see what the Great Hickok had to say. I must admit I agree completely. My range routine with either is Light 44 Spl, Med 44 Spl, Hot 44 Spl, Light 44 Mag, Med 44 Mag, done. I never go above that. Totally agree with a "great 44 Spl that is completely 44 Mag capable". Need to order up the Rosewood Pack grips from Bud's for my EDC of the 69. That and an EZ loader strip with another 5, and I never feel the need for more of anything. So many options with only one firearm!

Many years ago, back in the 80's I bought a 629 with an unfluted cylinder and a 2.5" barrel, no etching on the cylinder new from Smith. I believe it was a pre-Backpacker. I eventually sold it, wish I had it back, never seen another but I was young, didn't know about the 44 Special and it was a bruiser with full house 44 Magnum loads. Liked the revolver, traded it for a 6.5" 629 Classic. What a difference that extra 4" of barrel made, it started my handgun hunting career here in NYS, accounted for dozens of deer over the years. I just can imagine what that 629 is like to shoot, not pleasant but I handload now so it wouldn't be an issue. That 2.75" tube IMHO although not bad just looks a little weird, a 3" or 3.25" tube would make it look more balanced.

I am not usually a fan of the super-short barrelled pistols, but this one really catches my eye. The versatility of the magnum revolvers always impresses me, although it is a shame it struggles with the higher power rounds. From what Hickok says I think the problem is more the human factor than the gun itself. Presumably, from a mechanical standpoint it is capable of shooting them without difficulty?

I bought one about a year ago....Had to send it back for repairs. (It locked up after the third shot using PMC 240gr factory ammo) The best thing about this gun, is 1 box of ammo lasts for 2-3 rage trips. - It is in no way painful to shoot, but it is super comfortable either. (An indoor range can be exciting though, due to the fire and concussion) Now, with 300gr Hard Cast rounds, most will not will not one to shoot more than 1 cylinder.
@rogerpemberton794 жыл бұрын
I put VZ Alien square butt conversion grips on my 4.25" 69 Combat Magnum and put the factory grips from it on my 2.75" 69 Combat Magnum. The reason is I noticed the factory grip on the 2.75" didn't fit my hand well and was exponentially more uncomfortable to shoot magnum rounds than the 4.25". Both are more comfortable to shoot now which confirmed that the factory grip was the biggest culprit. Some may find it hard to believe but I put the same VZ Alien square butt conversion grips on my 329PD and made a huge difference in the shootability of that lite weight hard kicking 44 magnum.

I like shooting! Big guns, little guns! I agree with you about lighter loads in little guns. I'll shoot magnums all day in a full size revolver but I think 9mm is too snappy for a pocket pistol. Little guns feel like they're gonna jump out of your hand with bigger calibers. You want them to sit snug in your hand for quick follow up shots.
