Description:
🎧 Join us in the latest episode of the Advanced English Podcast where hosts Kat Teacher from the USA and Mark Teacher from the UK walk us through their busy days filled with everyday errands. This episode offers a wonderful opportunity to learn English through the lens of day-to-day activities and cultural differences.
🇺🇸 Kat from the US details her packed to-do list, starting with a grocery run for essential items like milk and eggs. She then plans to visit the post office, stop by the pharmacy for a prescription refill, donate old clothes at a thrift store, and possibly return overdue books to the library. Her day concludes with preparing dinner for her family after the kids return from school.
🇬🇧 Mark from the UK shares a similar, yet distinctly British routine. His day involves 'nipping' to the supermarket, 'posting' a parcel at the post office, visiting the 'chemist' for a prescription, and dropping off items at the charity shop. He also hopes to 'pop into' the library to return overdue books. Like Kat, his day ends with getting dinner ready for the family.
📚 As they narrate their day, Kat and Mark explain the vocabulary and expressions unique to their tasks, making it an excellent learning resource for advanced English learners. The episode provides insights into the subtle differences in language and lifestyle between the UK and the USA.
🌟 Engage with us by sharing your typical day's errands in the comments section! Subscribe for more insightful episodes on everyday English language and culture.

that's such an interesting lesson .i really appreciate it. i have few errands to do today. first off i hit the grocery store to get some fresh veggs or meat for the dinner. then i drop by the bank to withdraw some money and dash home . right now i 'am watching your podcast. afternoon i 'am going to pop in at the pharmacy for some daily cream and have a wander near the beach since the weather 's so nice.

May I ask a question ? How to use /not the least/as an answer . And what does it mean? Thanks.
@highlevellistening
@highlevellistening 3 ай бұрын
The phrase "not in the least" is an idiomatic expression used to emphasize a strong denial or negation. It means "not at all" or "absolutely not." When used as an answer, it's a way to emphatically reject a suggestion, idea, or question that was posed, indicating that the speaker disagrees completely or is not affected in any way by what was mentioned. Here's an example of how "not in the least" can be used in conversation: Person A: "Were you bothered by the noise last night?" Person B: "Not in the least. I slept right through it." In this example, Person B uses "not in the least" to strongly convey that the noise did not bother them at all. Hope that helps!

Thank you ❤ Is the word " overwhelmed " is negative or we can use it in a positive way?
@highlevellistening
@highlevellistening 5 ай бұрын
Hi there, overwhelmed usually means stressed or having too many things going on in a stressful and negative way, however it can also be used to mean much more than expected, like “we were shocked by the overwhelming response from our friends and neighbors” which can also be more positive, but it’s still a lot to deal with!
@ManalAltairy

@highlevellistening thank you for your response, so the sentence, I am overwhelmed by your kindness is completely wrong!?

Hello, you used 'for a cheap price', when you were talking about a charity shop. I'm wondering if that is correct in English? I'm leaning more towards a low price or a cheap thing. Can you comment please?
@highlevellistening
@highlevellistening 4 ай бұрын
We have a few different ways to express the same idea along with the ones you mentioned. Low/cheap/good/normal/high/expensive prices Cheap prices sound like the cost is low Cheap goods/items/things could also mean that the quality is not very good, even if you paid a higher price for it Hope that helps!
