I just found your channel and have to say these videos are great 👍 But why change the temperature to 155, why not use 160 for all three presses?

I purchased your book and it has been very helpful so far. How would you know when the book is at its proper moisture level inside and on the cover? As in it is dry enough. Sometimes ill press a book and it will seem dry, afterwards it is bagged and boarded it begins to form very small waves along the top of the book.

A book should feel dry to the fingertouch. If a book feels damp right out of the humidity tank, it is oversaturated. Oversaturated books will become wavy after pressing. If a book forms waves across the top of a bagged/boarded book you may have too much moisture in the air in the room you store books or press books. Another factor may be that the book is pressed too hot and for too long as well. What we do is all about "adapting to your local environment". So you need a hygrometer inside the tank and a digital hygrometer in your pressing room. If the room is above 50% you may have an issue with relative humidity in the room. Books should be stored and pressed in a room that is 40%. If your numbers are above 40%, you may have to keep your humidity tank lid cracked 1 inch when in use so the inside relative humidity inside tank will level off around 70-80%. If your pressing room is less than 40%, you may need to keep your lid air tight so the inside relative humidity remains at 100% inside the tank. If it is not a relative humidity issue, then you may need to press at a lower temperature like 150F for just 5 minutes and then let the book remain in press machine for 24 hours. Flip/repeat the next day using no humidity. Good luck!

Sometimes you use metal plates, sometimes not. Is there a reason or thought behind that? Metal plates on humidified books ok?

The video pressing comics with no plates is more of a informational and instructional video for those who don’t have plates. If a book is not oversaturated, it is completely safe and recommended to press humidified books with plates.

I see distilled water has an expiration date on the bottle. Do we care for our purposes? I assume you can keep the water in the tube for multiple uses. But what about the expiration? Thanks for all your great help Mike!

Kaptain a quick question. I'm having trouble with humidified books. Did a run of late 60's TOS and they all came out great. Trying a lot of 1977 Star Wars and books are getting really wavy front and back covers that aren't really pressing out (look like a dry raisin). Checked out page 97-98 of your book but not really seeing an answer. Any thoughts? Always appreciated.

Use less water in humidity tank and try pressing at a lower temperature next time. You have to adapt to your environment. Get a hygrometer for inside tank and a hygrometer for outside of the tank to see your relative humidity in the room. Ideal humidity in room should be around 40%.

Hi on your website you say "Do not place a new modern age glossy cover, glossy interior pages comic book inside a humidity chamber. Chances are it will ruin the book." But then under the list of "Use humidity on books that feature:", you have "Spine rolls " listed. I have a modern Ultimate Fallout 4 that has a spine roll. I am new to this, but I assume that UF4 is a modern comic? Am i misunderstanding what a glossy cover is? And that not all moderns have a glossy cover? If you could clarify, and also say if you would put UF4 (specifically) in a humidity chamber for a spine roll, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

This was good 98% we do the same things I want to see your take on pressing square bounds Spine rolls are child's play Ps I use a spoon not a ball bearing
