Where does London fall on your list? I know it was one of those cookie cutter 90s expansion tracks but for years it was a single groove bump and run track as well, for the first decade of its existence it was practically Jeff Burton’s home track. Is it possible you could cover the 90s expansion tracks in depth?
@vg4522 жыл бұрын
Hi Slap, I know this technically isn't part of the content of your video, but figured this would pique your interest anyways: Joey Logano's 2012 bump and run of Mark Martin not only cost The Kid the opportunity to win at Pocono, it also kept him from winning a Cup race in four different decades (the 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s). To get an idea of how rare this accomplishment is in NASCAR history, there are more seven-time champions in the history of the sport than there are drivers who have pulled off the four-decade win streak - because Dale Earnhardt Sr. is the latter club's only member. He accomplished this by winning at Bristol in his rookie season in 1979, dominating the 1980s and 1990s, and scoring wins at Atlanta and Talladega in 2000 before his tragic death. What makes this even worse is that Logano himself is the most likely driver to match this accomplishment before his career is over, given that 2030 will be his age-40 season in NASCAR and he has won in the 2000s (2009 Loudon), 2010s, and 2020s.

2:56 "Slugging it out like a bunch of rats trapped in an outhouse." Legendary line. Your case for Pocono was spot on, too. It's a shame the safety fencing situation is so dire, otherwise IndyCar wouldn't have an excuse for not being there. It's the only other speedway of Indianapolis's type in the US, and some of my favorite ever NASCAR races have taken place there, one of which was a fuel mileage finish where I think three separate dudes ran out of fuel in the last 10 laps. My only changes to this list would be the removal of Talladega and the addition of Atlanta in its place, along with Darlington and Bristol switching places.

It's not the track's fault that NASCAR superspeedway racing is the way it currently is. I’ve been to Bowman Gray Stadium once, and it was as chaotic as expected. There was a mini stock race where all of the cars looked like makeshift creations except for one: a Ford Pinto. That car was consistently towards the front the whole race, and on the last lap, on the last turn, 1st and 2nd crashed out, and that Ford Pinto won. When that car crossed the line, everyone cheered, and even the driver was shocked that he won. All in all, the track lived up to its reputation.

I've always liked Sonoma, seeing big, heavy Stock Cars that have a big stopping distance being forced to change direction left and right and brake heavily for turn 11 is refreshing to see, it's a test for the drivers (not saying that the others aren't, but it's a great test to know how much speed to carry the car through the esses) and it has its own moments like Bristol is renowned for (Ricky Rudd being controversially being black flagged in 1991, handing the win to Davey Allison, for example, or Brian Vickers getting revenge on Tony Stewart in 2011, is another). Brock Beard did an entire video that does more justice to Sonoma than I ever could. As for my favourite F1 track, I might be a bit biased (as I had the privilege to attend a Grand Prix there in 2019), but I will say Monza. The venue of the Italian Grand Prix for the longest time, anyone who goes there can feel the history of the place (having staged racing there since 1922) and whenever Ferrari win, the local fans produce an intoxicating atmosphere like nowhere else. It just leaves you going "WOW"
@SonicXisnow20092 жыл бұрын
Monza, Spa, and Montreal are my personal faves. Hell, I was so excited when Montreal got an Xfinity date and none of its races (especially its first with Robby Gordon/Ambrose) disappointed. Sure, the track is exciting but also incredibly dangerous. High-speed pileups are common and the barriers aren't up to the same grade as Daytona or Talledega. One track that I think deserves an honorable mention is Rockingham, it's not Top 10 material but it had a lot going for it as far as good racing with multiple grooves and required a good focus on tires because of the surface. While Bowman-Gray has had some extremely memorable races in the lower divisions in the last 50 years, I'm not sure its Cup races can justify a position here. It's had more flag-to-flag races than any other track, and no Cup event had more than 4 lead changes. I tend to like tracks that are hard on tires, as that creates lots of 'comers and goers' that make for interesting races. So my list would include Rockingham, North Wilkesboro and Atlanta. For an older track, I'd include Langhorne, as "puke alley" was a serious test of skill.

Thank you Slapshoes for this video. Everything you said here is true and as a season ticket holder to MIS from the early 90s into the early 2000s I eventually stop attending races when the great recession occured in '08. I lost my job working for a independent repair shop of 9 years and because of that I had to make sacrifices to pay my bills. I had great seats at Michigan and I didn't want to let them go but unfortunately that among selling my trans am was something I had to do just to make ends meet. Fast forward to today, 13 years later I attend my 1st nascar race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway for the roval race and I was literally shocked with the crowd attendance and how eerily quiet it was. The short amount of souvenir trailers in the lot. The unfamiliar drivers I never heard of are some of the examples that I cannot follow this sport as I use to. There is a definite disconnect here. Familiar sponsors are now replaced with tech companies that I never heard of. The gimmicks like stage racing has me rolling my eyes and The fact that Chicagoland Speedway which is in my own back yard is lying dormant has me not wanting coming back to this sport. I've been attending my local short tracks more and been watching the SRX racing series because the grassroots of racing is something I can relate to. I feel I'm no longer part of that crowd that was once my home away from home.

My favorite track has to be Atlanta Motor speedway! Not only is it the place of Harvick's first cup win, but it's also the first race I spent an entire weekend watching all three series live. It was an awesome weekend!

Oh man. Being from Bristol and having gone to many races in my youth I am so glad to see it top the chart. I've had every imaginable experience there, from front row smoke laden seats to grandstand and proper nosebleeds to a VIP box for one night race. I've been to victory lane, which is incredibly unique. I've been there for snoozers and wreckfests but it always lives up to its nickname. Not to mention the usual entertainment that was driver introductions in the 2000s and 2010s. I've driven the track and met several drivers at local restaurants. It's such a peaceful town but when the race is in it just livens up beyond anything. Adding the dirt race has brought some new life as well. Cheers.

Nobody: Me: Ecstatic over the fact that S1ap plays Forza Motorsport BTW, I like this list. I don't typically enjoy these top 10 lists, but for S1ap I have to make an exception because of how well he does them.

Dover, Daytona, New Hampshire, Watkins Glen, Bristol, Bristol at Night, Bristol dirt. Damn I love Bristol. Wahoo. Wrote the above before watching. Glad that S1ap, like me, loves the short track palace.

Was hoping to see the Monster Mile on the list but I agree with your picks.

Milwaukee Mile, I think, outshines it in almost every way.

4:18 it's definitely NOT in the middle of downtown Nashville, but it's fairly close to the city center. Much better than Nashville Superspeedway, which is all the way in Wilson county.

Daytona has to be a top 10 track. It should be nonnegotiable

1. Thank you for putting Road America on the list. It's a world class track that has it all. Long straights? Yup. Sweepers? Yup. High speed corners that dare drivers to take flat out? Yup. 90 degree plus corners? Yup. Elevation? Yup. No disrespect to COTA, but I would love to see F1 here. 2. It's only a top 10 list so obviously some tracks will be missed. I would remove Bowman Gray, Hickory and Nashville and replace them with Daytona, Richmond and Watkins Glen. If it was a top 15 list I'd keep the three you included, the three I mentioned and add Atlanta and Rockingham.

Pleasantly surprised to see Road America on this list at all, let alone so high! You, sir, have good taste.

To add on to Charlotte Motor Speedway, they also own the 4 wide zMax Dragway, which was kind of revolutionary back when it was finished and opened in the late 2000's. Now, we also have the dragstrip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, which is also a 4 wide track.

As a man who grew up 15 miles from Bristol motor speedway, I was prepared to throw my phone if the last great colosseum wasn’t on this list. Good to see that it takes the top spot and my phone is still in one piece.

some personal favorites of mine (from a new nascar fan): Bristol. Favorite track to race on in nascar heat 5 by a longshot. Watkins Glen. Watched the replay of last year's race and the atmosphere seemed so good. I also love racing on it. Sonoma. That might be a weird pick, but I still love it. Wine country baby! The Roval. Same reasons you described. Turns a meh track into a must play for me on Nascar Heat. Gonna watch my second live race today at Atlanta
