After your lessons I feel so happy and satisfied as I learn through each lesson new high level vocabulary which we were not taught and couldn't find in the classical English books. Your explanations are very clear and and I like that you talk about individual words in detail giving a lot of examples 👏👏👏

Thank you very much for the episode. I enjoyed a lot watching. Actually, I watched it like a movie. You played like actors. And also I have not only learned new vocabulary, but some interesting details about the topic. Here in Ukraine we may be can not differentiate the genres of the films that exactly- I thought of the last Ukrainian film, that really impressed me. The name is Pamphir. It’s about like criminal situation in the rural remote (at those soviet time) mountain part of the near western border. I can say it is like folk action, I don’t know.😊

That's what's great about movies, there are so many genres and so many great ideas out there, I really like thrillers and actions, so maybe I would like Pamphir! Thanks so much for joining us in class and sharing your experience! We really appreciate it.

[A snob] is a person who is quite knowledgeable about a topic *and* they only like very high quality versions of that topic. Also this person often doesn't like "popular" things, because they think that anything popular cannot be "truly" high quality. So a movie snob is maybe someone who only watches Oscar-winning movies, or movies that get 5 stars from critics, and they would *never* watch a Marvel or Mission Impossible movie because they are a not real ✨art✨. I hope that makes sense!

Thank you so much . May I have a question, please ? is there any chance you could tell me the meaning of /industry supported expression/
@highlevellistening7 ай бұрын
Hello! I'm not sure I'm familiar with that phrase, and it's not one we used in this episode. If you're talking about films/movies, then "The industry" refers to the "film-making industry" and all the studios that make films, like Universal, MGM or Columbia. You might: "She's one of the most successful actresses in the industry." She's an actress, so we understand the industry is the film industry. Hopefully that helps a little!
@AmeraAlawer7 ай бұрын
very interesting as always . I think we have what stands for that generic /your/ in slang Arabic in Syria as well.and it works the same way as yours does. By the way is the phrase /slang Arabic /correct or should it be /Arabic slang/ Thank you both .
@highlevellistening7 ай бұрын
Very interesting, thanks for sharing! In English we would say: "Arabic slang", there's also English slang, German slang, French slang etc etc

The last movie I've watched in original with subtitles was "Poor things", which was awarded an Oscar. It's kind of provocative one. I have mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, this is a story about people who push boundaries of what was known, people of unconventional mind. The main character, the creature with a childlike mind in an adult body puts her foot down to learn the world. She acts directly, doesn't care that she can ruffle someone's feathers. On the other hand, the whole setup is pretty wild, because it's kind of shot through with sex. It's definitely not up my street. I was told that the movie was filmed after the book with the same name, but they are totally different. The movie is a free interpretation of the book. As I understood, it's a film director's take on that story. But If you are interested in "Poor things", I definitely recommend seeing it on the big screen.
@highlevellistening7 ай бұрын
Wow thanks for sharing your thoughts - and for using so much of the class vocabulary too! I've heard some "mixed reviews" about Poor Things. One friend thought it was very funny, another friend said it was very strange. The description of the plot sounds very unusual, but I know it has some very good actors in it, like Emma Stone, Mark Ruffalo and Willem Dafoe, so if they're in it, then it can't be that bad!? I might wait until it comes out on Netflix or another platform before I check it out! Thanks for the recommendation!

@highlevellistening7 ай бұрын
Come join us! It can be difficult at first, this is what we suggest. Practice listening: learn the flow and the rhythm of English by listening to the episode. You don't have to understand everything, it's good to hear English naturally spoken. 2nd listen: listen again, it will feel familiar and easier to hear the words again Pause the video for some interesting vocabulary. It's okay if you don't catch everything! English is step by step and day by day, good luck!

The last film I watched was Poor Things. At the beginning, I was like, What am I seeing?? It was a bit weird, but then I changed my mind, and I love it. It is the surreal coming-of-age story of a girl who emancipates herself. It is not my genre of film, but I liked it anyway. Did you watch it?
@highlevellistening7 ай бұрын
No I haven't seen it! But it really sounds right up my alley, I do like those kinds of movies. Sometimes those first few moments either capture you or make you turn it off haha, Thanks for sharing your experience and maybe it's a cool new movie for us to watch!
@ОльгаЕлісеєнко7 ай бұрын
@@highlevellistening "make you turn it off haha". It sounds really fascinating! I'm curious, why "haha"? just a part of expression?
@highlevellistening7 ай бұрын
"Haha" is the English way of showing a laugh. You also see "lol" "hehe" and others :)
@ОльгаЕлісеєнко7 ай бұрын
@@highlevellistening is it the same to say: make you laugh? or it's better to say that it's totally skippable?
