I've done this technique a bunch of times myself. It's very effective but it's easy to go too far with it. Take your time and inspect book at all points. If something goes awry it's easier to correct problems before they 'set' in. Thank you for sharing! Wonderful Video.

@@briantidwell629 I am kinda of an idiot :). But seem to recklessly seem to get the job done. I learned a lot from the Captain, he provides a lot of great hints and tips, and I do some experimenting (Just on pressing). Check out my vids if you like dry humour!

I’ve been pressing books for 12 yrs and have done similar techniques like this . This is not for the beginner and this is even tough for guys that have been pressing for a while. Be very patient and deliberate and practice on a lot of old roached out books.

Great video - thanks for sharing . You mentioned TIME in press , but how much heat (if any) on press - and if using a clamshell press, still use the clamp ? Just wondering it’s purpose.

Very interesting video. What would happen if you humidified the book using a 3% hydrogen peroxide solution? Would it uniformly remove light yellowing or staining do you think?

We tried that along time ago. All that does is create the same effect as a regular humidity tank as the peroxide turns to water under normal uv light conditions

I was doing a LED treatment with peroxide. Came out nice, but the front and back cover have many small waves all over; visible in a specific angle. How can I get rid of them?

just curious - have you tried this method with the cover off the book? seems like maybe that would alleviate any weird rippling issues?

That’s an excellent question. I do not endorse, taking a book apart, or removing the staples as most of what I teach is geared towards amateurs. I feel like a lot more things could go wrong if you try to take the book apart.

Why is it when i do this technique on books it leaves hydrogen marks that are visible under blacklight , inside the paper?

It could be the book has too much tanning. That’s why we recommend blue light misting for the inside of the books and not the overlay method. You could try to dilute the solution with a mix of 50% distilled water and 50% hydrogen peroxide.

@@kaptainmyke Sorry, not for the interior pages. I am referring to the cover. After I HOP and the book is dry, inside of the cover it seems the paper has something trapped inside since it is visible after with uv light.

Does a black light pick the inside cover when doing the peroxide spray?

I'm not sure I understand your question. We don't use black lights.

Sorry wasn't to specific, would CGC detect the peroxide if using a black light and and at the 8 min mark on this vid regarding not doing the inside overlay if yellow. What can be done then? I just ordered the Comic Book Stain Removal and Whitening if its mentioned in there, I'll just check it in the book

Doesn’t this cause a rough texture to form on the paper.

It depends on the paper quality if there is any brittleness or type of paper used. Sometimes it may be necessary to use a distilled water HOP method. In most cases, the rough texture you see disappears after final press.

Is it right to assume that pure distilled is far safer than hydrogen peroxide? Just to get off some light stains. And then to get rid of rippling, you'd press again normally.@@kaptainmyke
