Saab 9-3 Engine Misfire P1312 - Spark Plug and Coils replacement (model year 2003 - 2011)

This video shows you how to replace the spark plugs and coils on a Saab 9-3 (model year 2004). The same procedure applies to model years 2003 through 2011. The engine was rough idling, misfiring and also shaking when trying to increase the rpms. The engine error code read by the OBDII code reader was P1312 indicating a possible spark plug, spark plug coil or the ionization module problem. I replaced the spark plugs and coils which resolved the issue.

You could have used the coils to pull the plugs and used the coil to lightly twist the plugs into place without damaging the threads. Great video btw!

Hello Peter, what's the gap reading on each sparkplug from 1 to 4? Also what's the foot pounds on each sparkplug when tighten them?

20foot pounds and the gap is 35

I tried to do it myself and ended up stripping 2 bolts now I can’t access the spark plugs or coils any ideas or tips? My car is running rough and codes indicate spark plugs and a “b” coil

Use a smaller socket and make sure you take your time

That likely means that your valve cover gasket is leaking.

sounds like chain guide is broke

yellow coils are bad - it has to be the black as you did . Many got prob because of the yellows
