Its a video about the battle of the Atlantic, the bismark was the biggest German ship ( 823ft long) aside the japanese YAMATO class (832ft) and the US Navy IOWA battleship Class (886ft) . In the course of the warship's eight-month career under its sole commanding officer, Captain Ernst Lindemann, Bismarck conducted only one offensive operation, lasting 8 days in May 1941, codenamed Rheinübung. The ship, along with the heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen, was to break into the Atlantic Ocean and raid Allied shipping from North America to Great Britain. The two ships were detected several times off Scandinavia, and British naval units were deployed to block their route. At the Battle of the Denmark Strait, the battlecruiser HMS Hood initially engaged Prinz Eugen, probably by mistake, while HMS Prince of Wales engaged Bismarck. In the ensuing battle Hood was destroyed by the combined fire of Bismarck and Prinz Eugen, which then damaged Prince of Wales and forced her retreat. Bismarck suffered sufficient damage from three hits to force an end to the raiding mission. The destruction of Hood spurred a relentless pursuit by the Royal Navy involving dozens of warships. Two days later, heading for occupied France to effect repairs, Bismarck was attacked by 16 Fairey Swordfish biplane torpedo bombers from the aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal; one scored a hit that rendered the battleship's steering gear inoperable. In her final battle the following morning, the already-crippled Bismarck was engaged by two British battleships and two heavy cruisers, and sustained incapacitating damage and heavy loss of life. The ship was scuttled to prevent her being boarded by the British, and to allow the ship to be abandoned so as to limit further casualties. Most experts agree that the battle damage would have caused her to sink eventually. The wreck was located in June 1989 by Robert Ballard, and has since been further surveyed by several other expeditions. A detailed underwater survey of the wreck in 2002 showed that the sustained close-range shelling was largely ineffective in the effort to sink the ship, the many torpedoes launched at Bismarck were also almost completely ineffective, and the massive plating of the armour deck was also found to be virtually intact.

@@TheWolfHunterZ A bit of history: The Bismarck was when she was constructed the most modern and lethal battleship ever produced. She was a very big problem for the allies in the early stages of WW2. In her first skirmish she sunk the biggest battleship, and the largest overall ship ever built, the HMS Hood, in a very short engagement (Most likely due to a long range shell penetrating through the wooden upper deck of the Hood and detonating her ammunition), which made her even scarier. She was however heavily outnumbered and eventually fell first to a very lucky torpedo hit by a british Fairey Swordfish, and one additional torpedo hit that wasn't as crucial, crippled her rudder and eventually she was caught up to and destroyed by a very large british force. Her end really spelled the end of any chance of breaking the UK naval dominance of WW2. And yes, she was a nazi ship, through and through :P

The Bismarck was the main battleship of the German navy during WW2. The man you see renting them the boat at the start of the video is the real Bernhard Heuer. He was the last survivor of the sinking of Bismarck and died in 2018. This video not only tells the story of what happened to the ship but also about the events taking place onboard and how Bernard survived. If you watch the video you can see the captain of the Bismarck etching something into the lid of a compass. Those are the coordinates of where the Bismarck sank. He gives the compass to a young matrose with the order to not let it fall into enemy hands. That matrose was Bernard Heuer. He kept the coordinates secret his entire life and the compass he holds up at the start of the video when he gazes out the window of his boat is that very compass.

A wee backstory about the band and this video. The 'movie" was made entirely for the music video as a collaboration between the band Sabaton and the game studio Wargaming, two groups of people who love and respect War History. Years back Sabaton was commissioned to star in a Music Video/advertisement for Wargaming's then upcoming videogame World Of Tanks. In it, members of Sabaton rode around in an actual tank 'fighting other tanks" to the sound of their big hit Primo Victoria. (A callback to which was painted on the side of their boat) You can find that video as their official music video for Primo Victoria. Anywho.. Sabaton and Wargaming Studios have been on such good terms over the years, that when Sabaton wanted to create a Song Memorializing the Battleship Bismarck, the Studio, whose current work focuses now on their game World of Warships, agreed to help make this video with Sabaton, and created the wee movie quality video and effects for them. As said already, both groups have a passion for History and retelling forgotten tales of war. So for both this was a passion project, created for the world to enjoy, and to remember. The full text at the end reads as follows; 'War knows no Nation. This video is dedicated to those who fought to the bitter end in the battle of the Atlantic." Hope you enjoy the rest of Sabaton's offerings, they've been around for a while, and have many great songs to choose from. ^.-.^ Cheers!

There is one interesting detail in this video nobody has mentioned, when the swordfish planes do fly towards the bismark and release torpedos you can see that one hits the rear of the ship. That proved to be his Achilles heel, the rudder got stuck forcing the ship to sail in a wide circle, thus allowing the British navy to find it and hunt it down. The captain of the ship the band uses in this video is in fact the young man you see in the video, receiving the captains pocket watch with the position where the ship sank. He did die not long after the video was made and was the last surviving member of that crew. Bismark had a sister ship, the Tirpitz which also got hunted down by the allies and sunk. They say that the captain of the Bismark at the end ordered that the valves in the bottom of the ship should be opened so she would sink, thus making it impossible for the allies to capture the ship and use it against its own makers.
@KayDawgx4 жыл бұрын
The wide circle is also what made it very easy for the torpedoes to eventually sink the Bismarck as it had no chance of ever avoiding them with the rudders stuck. Regarding the rudders, it was actually used as part of the german war propaganda but was later found out to be a fluke as it would have sunk from it damages eventually. The brits saved a lot of german sailors but were forced to leave the area due to sightings of uboats.

The Kriegsmarine was Nazi Germanys Navy. The Video was made with help from the company behind "World of Tanks" that needed some material to their game "World of Warships". And yes Sabaton really played on a boat in the "middle of nowhere". "From Wiki" (just a short version). Bismarck was the first of two Bismarck-class battleships built for Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine. Named after Chancellor Otto von Bismarck, the ship was laid down at the Blohm & Voss shipyard in Hamburg in July 1936 and launched in February 1939. Work was completed in August 1940, when she was commissioned into the German fleet. Bismarck and her sister ship Tirpitz were the largest battleships ever built by Germany, and two of the largest built by any European power. In the course of the warship's eight-month career under its sole commanding officer, Captain Ernst Lindemann, Bismarck conducted only one offensive operation, lasting 8 days in May 1941, codenamed Rheinübung. Two days later, heading for occupied France to effect repairs, Bismarck was attacked by 16 obsolescent Fairey Swordfish biplane torpedo bombers from the aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal; one scored a hit that rendered the battleship's steering gear inoperable. In her final battle the following morning, the already-crippled Bismarck was severely damaged during a sustained engagement with two British battleships and two heavy cruisers, was scuttled by her crew, and sank with heavy loss of life. Most experts agree that the battle damage would have caused her to sink eventually. All Sabaton songs are about historical events, mainly Battles, Heroes/ Act of Heroism / Famous last stands etc. You should really check out their History Channel, The have a Historian talking about the story behind their songs, and the Historian that explains what happen is really amazing storyteller and they do have a video about Bismarch and how this Video was made) .

Cause the Bismark was a German Battleship that the Nazis had made to be the biggest Battleship in the world. Woohoo! I enjoyed this reaction so much. So here's some insight to the band: Sabaton is a power metal band from Falun, Sweden. The singer's name is Joakim (Yo'ah-KEEM) Broden. The drummer is Hannes van Dahl (he's Floor Jansen's husband, as you know). The bassist is Par Sundstrom. The guitarists are Tommy Johansson (blond haired one) and Chris Rorland. Almost all of Sabaton's songs are about world military and war history. They teach people about history in their songs and it's super compelling and fun. Par Sundstrom (the bassist), stated that the band decided to focus primarily on historical themes in their lyrics after he and Joakim Broden (the singer) watched the film Saving Private Ryan. This song in particular is about the Bismarck, one of the largest German battleships ever created. The subject of the Bismarck was one that was so requested by fans that the band just made it into a non-album single. Their most recent album is called The Great War and focuses entirely on World War I. It was released last year on July 19th. In regards to you comment about the production and CGI quality of the video; most of Sabaton's music videos are in collaboration with Wargaming, a Belarusian video game company located in Nicosia, Cyprus. The band members are active players of the various Wargaming franchises, such as World of Tanks, World of Warships, and World of Warplanes. The company and the band thus collaborate together to make these high-quality videos to promote the games and the band's music. As you react to this band more, you'll notice that they always have the same outfit on in each video and always during their live shows. That's sort of a gimmick that they have. It all started when their very first music video was recorded for the song "Attero Dominatus" when they wore the outfits and it just kind of "stuck" after that moment. Another interesting thing is that the band's first album was not actually the first thing they wrote. What would eventually be their third album, Metalizer, is the first album they wrote, but it didn't get published until much later. It's also the only album that is not focused on world military and war history. Lastly, on February 7th, 2019, the band launched a separate channel on KZbin called Sabaton History, where members of the band, along with the channel's host, Indy Neidell, discuss and elaborate more on the meanings for songs and albums by going back through the history and teaching it to the viewers. As for song suggestions, check these out: "Night Witches", "Seven Pillars of Wisdom", "Attack of the Dead Men", and "Shiroyama". Thanks Chase! Another band that you may get requests for because of Sabaton is the band called Amaranthe since they recently toured with Sabaton. Amaranthe is also from Sweden, but from the city of Gothenburg. They are a really interesting band that you should check out too. If you do, I recommend their new song, "Viral". Thanks again!

Did you see it? The most important part of the story is the fishing boat captains watch. It's the same watch the Bismarck captain marks for the young officer and later is pulled out of the water by the royal navy officer with the look they give each other saying'we are the same'. That's how he knows where the Bismarck is for the band, it's him when he was young.

short story behind that song - the Bismarck (obviously named after german chancellor otto von bismarck) was a secret project by the german kriegsmarine, that hitler didnt know about. the army in general thought the moustache guy to be very incompetent so they did a lot without his knowledge like building the biggest warship in history. It could easily have ensured german superiority at sea but since it was a secret project they needed it to head out in secret and meet up with the fleet. so for that travel it was without any support ships, all by itself and thats when the allies found and attacked it, sinking it before the bismarck had any chance
@Scythes4 жыл бұрын
Well that is just bullshit from A to Z. Of course Hitler knew of the building of Bismarck and Tirpitz..He was at the christening for them both when they were launced! Bismarck was deployed together with Prinz Eugen and went out on operations in the North Atlantic to disrupt convoys and that led up to Bismarck and Prinz Eugen sinking the HMS Hood. Bismarck damaged after the battle with HMS Hood and HMS Prince of Wales set its course towards France for repairs but was hunted down and sunk by the British.

I'd seriously recommend you checking out well... all of their discography... but being a bit more specific, if you wanna check out other awesomely produced videos, see "Fields of Verdun" and "Screaming Eagles". And for a taste of them live: check out "40:1" and/or "Ghost Division" from the 2012 Woodstock concert. A lot of people might have already said this but, all of Sabaton songs talk about historical things: battles, heroes, last stands, etc etc. They also have a "History channel" (aptly named "Sabaton History") where a member of the band teams with an historian who tells you about the historic event that inspired the song that that chapter talks about, and then they talk about how the song came to be. Quite a bingeable channel if i might say so myself. oh and you have a new sub! :D keep on rockin!

Two historical notes: 1) some of the lyrics are the (translated) quotes from Otto von Bismarck, the German leader for whom the ship was named. 2) inside the compass that the older man was checking at the end are the longitude & latitude coordinates of where the Bismarck went down. As stated by many others, the song is not made for a movie. Most Sabaton songs revolve around real stories concerning historic war events, commemorating legendary battles or combat units. For Bismarck Sabaton joined up with the makers of the historic naval combat computer game World of Warships. The song tells the tale of the battle to sink Bismarck, the German flagship tasked with entering the Atlantic and wreak havoc with the convois that worked hard to keep Britain in the war.

The Bismarck was the most powerful warship built during WW2 but it was famously sunk on its maiden voyage. The captain of the band's boat is the survivor of the battle that you see at the end of the video (Indicated by his compass) and he is taking them on a tour telling the story as a first hand witness. Very few sailors survived because the british ship that sank Bismarck called off the rescue and left in fear of submarine attacks. The text at the end says 'the battle of the Atlantic' :)

Several battleships surpassed Bismarcks firepower during the war. Mainly the Japanese Yamato-class and the American Iowa-class. Bismarck was not sunk on its maiden voyage, but it was sunk on its first real mission.

Other commenters have probably already told you Sabaton is Swedish, that the song is a about the WWII German Battleship named Bismark, was a single and not part of a full length album, and that the video was funded by World of Warships. The band also has a history channel here on youtube where an actual historian tells you about the actual historical events they sing about. Bismark is one of the topics they've covered in the last year and a half or so the channel has been in existence. I enjoyed your reaction, and would love to see you guys do more Sabaton on your channel. Cheers

The "Bismarck" once was the pride of the German Navy - it's flagship. In the end almost the whole Royal Navy was on the hunt for this battleship which had "to be sunk at any cost". In deed the "Bismarck" was hit by over 2000 heavy shells. In fact a part of the crew sunk themselves with the remaining, totally shot up ship as an action of desparation and perhaps of honor, too. Remember all the fallen on both sides...
