Agreed, give it a second listen with subtitles just for your own enjoyment. Also good pronunciation except for the single letter "i". It's pronounced like the i in the word little, and not like (ai) in english. Thanks for all your wonderful reaction, not seldom of Swedish artists❣️

Great reaction even though You didn't understand the true meaning of it. So I encourage You both to watch it again for Yourself with captions to really understand the power of the lyrics. The lyrics: A lifetime of war I look around and I see my home fade away My time at home now feels far too short Just a youth, barely a man when duty called me If i get to see my home again, that I do not know Amongst friends from my village, I went out to figtht And the world burned For war it can Destroy a man I give my life for my homeland But who will mourn me? So see me as A husband, a friend Father and son who never comes home But who will miss me? Went to fight for Sweden, was baptized in blood Out there where death awaits, not heroism In fields where kinsmen fall no song is heard Challenging our destiny one more time Far from home Baptized and die in battle And the world burned For war it can Destroy a man I give my life for my homeland But who will mourn me? So see me as A husband, a friend Father and son who never comes home But who will miss me? And when my time runs out Who cares then? They fight on Does a soldier get a worhty end? To fall asleep Pass away And never wake up For war it can Destroy a man I give my life for my homeland But who will mourn me? So see me as A husband, a friend Father and son who never comes home But who will miss me?

I like the swedish version better than the english one. Swedish sounds nice but the lyrics are also more personal. The swedish lyrics are from the perspective of someone in the 30 years war, whereas its a general over view in the english version

I really hate it when reactors don't *USE* the *Subtitles* when its Rammstein or any other band which sings in their native language. 🤦🏻. I mean this as generally not just you two. There could be mother singing about her baby who died in childbirth and folk be like "music was rocking but I don't know it was about". Maybe its just me. I don't know.

You have to look at this again with the subtitles. It looses all meaning without them. The song is written about the 30-year war from a soldiers perspective, but between the lines it is a condemnation for all unjust wars leaders has sent soldiers to fight in a conflict that really dont concern them.

The 30 years war was one of the bloodiest and most destructive conflicts in world history. Sweden led the protestant league against the catholic coalition and the emperor. Some areas of germany and poland lost as much as 50% of their population during the war. The war ended in a "white peace", although it was a victory for the protestants, whose rights were recognized by the catholic emperor of "germany" (the "holy roman empire") and persecution of the protestants largely died down in northern europe after the war.

Nice reaction, I was at this show (sitting somewhere in the middle of the platform to the left from this view of the stage) the album Carolus Rex they had released during this time is about a part of Swedish history called the era of great power (stormaktstiden in Swedish) The album was released with both an English and Swedish version the difference being that the Swedish one tells the story from our/a Swedish soldier's view while the English is more from an outsider observer's view. Just before this clip started Joakim said no one carries around a lighter anymore but you all have phones, right? So turn on your lights for this one. Then when the video started he said Totally wonderful, my friends, let's sing together en livstid i krig (a lifetime of war) The show was sold out so we where 10 766 metalheads in the arena that night and the atmosphere was like pure magic. As several others have mentioned in the comments you should have turned the subtitles on.

This should be your next steps: 1. React to the English version of the song. Lyrics and story are completely different from the Swedish version, although both stay to the theme of the 30 years war. Official lyric video version: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pp2omnyGormFi9E Essentially the English version tells the story in the pov of dignitaries and commanders observing the horrors of the wars, while the swedish describes the insanity of the war from pov of the soldier on the battlefield. 2. React to this live version again and enable the official english subtitles to get the swedish story in english. It will be a tear teaser.

Why is everyone fixated with subs? I listen to all kind of languages I don't know and to music where you don't really hear the lyrics. In many cases for me when I fully understand what people are singing about it feels a bit silly and empty. I like the mystery and being able to catch the feelings of the music. Thats why I usually don't listen to swedish music ( my native language. ) English is usually better but still... I do however enjoy seeing peoples reactions to a for them new language and I do like Sabatons music as I'm a MÖP and historical nerd.
