If you want the full story, read the book A Higher Call by Adam Makos. It’ll tell you the story of Franz and Charlie from the beginning to the end. It is a must read.

One of the most remarkable stories of WWII. It's easy to forget that soldiers in war are just people trying to protect their country. Many of them had no HATE for whoever they were fighting. BROTHERS...HEROES Franz and Charlie ✌🏼 became friends FOR LIFE This is the one Sabaton song 🤘🏼 that consistently moves me to tears. Honor and chivalry in war are so rare.

Stigler quoted his old commanding officer at one point as telling his unit "If I see or hear of any of you shooting a man parachuting,.....I will shoot you myself". The idea behind it was that a pilot parachuting from a plane is considered "out of combat" and therefore attacking them is a war crime. Stigler said he'd seen the Pub in the same way and refused to attack it.

Great reaction as usual, Sabaton teaching history and punching on the feels button is expected. winter over germany at altitude means -65 degrees Celcius or so, not exactly fun, then add windchill from overb170km/h speed... no wonder that they at times had hand/ freezing stuck to the guns and oil of the guns freezing solid is not surprising. fior backstory check out Sabaton history channel here on KZbin, they give quite a bit more information there

There is no honor is kicking a man with broken legs. The German pilot knew that if his actions here were learned by command, he would be put to death. His escortring the bomber crew to the North Sea prevented AntiAircraft units from firing on them. The Bomber Crew told command what had happened and they were told that no one was to know of this. The enemy could not be seen as 'human'.

Franz Steigler's superior told everyone, not to shoot at a parachute, so he didn't shoot down the stricken plane. Check out Sabaton history documentary about this event. You may get Jovita pass by (the daughter of Franz) and say a few words.

To put it simple the man was Franz Stigler in the german plane and he had been told by his superior if I hear you fire upon a parachute I will kill you myself. Franz seeing the damaged plane saw it as a parachute it was so damaged and could not fire back so to shoot it down would be like firing on a parachute.

Don't be shocked if his daughter replys to this. She is still fairly active on these videos. Check out the book A Higher Call.

I don't remember this from album Heroes. Probably bc sounds are like 30 years ago or 40. Shiroyama has "good" sounds as do soldier of 3 armies...weird. Still kilometers from what they have nowadays. (see didn't want to say miles lol)

Many many Sabaton songs make me like you want to read it up afterwards Do you know Sabaton have a history channel where band members and a professional historian discuss the stories behind the songs. The one for this song is: kzbin.info/www/bejne/goS4aHubmbeJfbs They are often worth listening to for the background info.
