I can guarantee you that by the end of your visit to all Cities of East Africa, Nairobi will wow you. Kenyans are not different from Tanzanians or Ugandans. We are basically the same people with very similar temperament and demeanour. Obviously with capitalism, some level crime does evolve in a society of any citizenry and Nairobi is no different but, common sense precaution is advised especially if you venture into the downtown Nairobi. Other than that, your best weapon is your fluency of the Swahili language which not only makes the local to respect you instantly but also confuse them on where to place you. Even a prospective conman will think twice before they engage you the moment you speak in Swahili. As for the Luo Kikuyu thing, whoever told you that the two tribes don’t like each other, lied to you. Tribalism only manifests itself during Presidential elections and that too because of incitement from politicians but at the societal level, Kenyans get on very well.

Welcome to kenya my good friend, karibu sana. Nairobi is the most developed city in east and central africa, in terms of infrastructure, literacy levels and GDP. As for tom mboya, he was assasinated because of the politics of the time, he hails from the luo community and was seen somewhat of a threat to the then luo kingpin jaramogi odinga and was fast becoming popular nationwide. Nairobi is very hectic most of the time its a modern day city, but one of the most unique culture in nairobi is its Matatu culture, you will not find these pimped out public service vehicles anywhere in the world only in nairobi, graffiti and banging music. If you want to experience kenya get out of the city and go to the rural areas, vlogging in kenya is risky because of previous terror threats, otherwise enjoy

I loved Nairobi, some of the homeless can be aggressive, but most don't do that. I think because you were filming he assumed you had money to burn. But they were some of the friendliest people I ever had the privilege of spending time with. My first night there a few of us students went to a club downtown, after the taxi dropped us off we were informed that the club was closed for a private party. It was after 9 pm and the man working the door actually walked us Mzungas a mile accross the city to another rival club, when I offerred him $20 he looked at me like I had just shot his mother. I apologized profusely, and he told us if we wanted to compensate him then we should come back to his club and he would take good care of us. We did and he was wonderful. Got to know him well the 6 weeks we were there, and never went back to the other club that he took us to. I was 22, my first experience outside the US, and it was life changing.
@stadtjer6893 жыл бұрын
is it always offensive to compensate in money, or was it just something personal?
@ragbag469 ай бұрын
Nice story, yes in England if someone does something for you, they do it because they like you or want to help, not for money. But I will add in some countries people are very poor and do these things for money, but when you do you get a big smile, like the lady I bought some flowers from for our garden, when I told her to keep the change her smile and words of thanks were so sincere, it wasn’t a lot. I live in Thailand.

“You learn Swahili to blend with people you use it like a shield 🛡 “ True but is also the attitude and to not be afraid to do or try what people living there do every day , that’s when you start blending and earning their respect . When some one takes the time to learn about other culture and speaks the language deserves to blend in and be welcome

Poa sana rafiki yangu. The last 2 minutes of the video is close to our old neighbourhood. We used to walk to Yaya centre and back every morning before work. It's really impressive how the whole area around Lavington, Kilimani, Kileleshwa has developed in the last 8-10 years. We lived off of Oloitokitok Rd which was basically a dirt road back in 2012. Anyway enjoy your stay. Try to get to Lamu somehow low budget. Or Rift valley. You won't regret it.
