Love him or hate him (and I've seen both sides), I can say that without him I wouldn't be in Tanzania right now. Last year at the height of the global lockdown, this man said to me, "Sabbatical, I know you're depressed being stuck at home all year. I also know you've gotten your Covid test. Come to Tanzania and drink some Safaris." By a twist of fate he may have changed my life, because I'll always have a bond with this nation from now on. Upwards and onwards, marafiki zangu. 🇹🇿

Tanzania is ok as a tourist but there are many things Sabbatical isnt considering. Clean drinking water is limited, sewerage and sanitation problems, reliable electricity, gas and other fuels, education systems are limited, health systems are limited, high rates of malaria, aids and other health issues. Workers have no rights or protections. Around 10% of babies fail to reach adulthood, compared to under 1% in the US/west. Maternal health, dying from childbirth is much higher in Africa. US has a welfare safety net, food stamps, subsidized housing, free health for poor, disabled and old, and plenty of charities. US has much more opportunities for work. If you get sick like cancer, treatment options and success is much much higher in the US. Many African countries have serious corruption problems and conflicts between tribes or ethnic groups. Rights for women, gays, minorities is limited. FGM and poor treatment/safety of women in general. Tanzania has better standards than many African countries but if Sabbatical had to live and work in Tanzania like the locals, his standard of living would change a lot.

@@tubester4567 Tommy's entire experience in Africa would be different if he were a woman. He wouldn't have as much freedom to go wherever he wants and approach whomever he wants. The 21 days national mourning is constitutionally mandated when a sitting president dies. Its shorter for former presidents, a sitting VP or the sitting prime minister.
