This was a great night! Hot AF out.... But Fun! I Remember korn playing thankfully, But after... I woke up in my tent the next morning lol. -- However I had an conversation with a guy that night in the back of the crowd that changed my life. - Long story short, He was an old man sitting behind a concession tent by himself looking stressed out so I sat with him. He told me that his daughter loved korn and she was hit by a car going around a school bus. And he wanted to "Bring her there with him" and this was 'before the time of Cell Phones', His pager went off and he started crying, So I asked him what was wrong and he had gotten a message from his lawyer that a law bill he put forward to have, school buses have stop signs and make it illegal to pass a school bus while stopped. He was so happy that he could save other children... it hit me like a brick in the face!! And changed my life. *edit- I was only 19y so it hit me hard { It was a crazy 4 days lol}

I was at this show 🤘 up front, stage left. I’ve seen Korn more than a few times, but this crowd was clearly the wildest. I’m 5’ 2” and at times the whole crowd would become one and shift. It was amazing 🤘 Also, thought I may die. 😅 I actually worked security for other concerts at this point in life and knew this festival was not prepared for this event on day one. The people who were working up front did the best they could with clearly a greedy event. When you entered the event, they took your water, the free water was tainted, and the purchased water started at $4 and then the vendors started to price gouge. The people who were supposed to clean the place did not, including the toilets. People got sick from bacteria. The promoters just wanted money. They handed out thousands of candles that even caught fire when they fell on the dried grass near the main stage. It’s almost like they wanted that to happen, since they were taking lighters away in the beginning. Then, the grass started catching fire, then the exhaustion, dehydration, hunger, greed, price gouging vibe went through the crowd and some bonfires turned into Lord of the Flies and people burned it to the ground. This was in Rome, New York. This was the middle of nowhere, on a polluted EPA Superfund site, it turns out. There was nowhere to get clean water in 100 degree weather. People snapped, and the promoters who cut every corner on sanitation, the location, medical, security, blamed it on the crowd. A little context: I was also at a show in 1998 called the Tibetan Freedom concert that was struck by lightning. Huge crowd had to be evacuated from an outdoor soccer field. 11 struck by lightning. Same exact crowd, many of the same bands, East coast, Washington D.C. Those promoters handled it perfectly because their goal wasn’t to just milk people for profit. The promoter tries, to this day, to blame these bands. I’ve been to hundreds of shows over decades, in over 10 states, 3 countries. The chaos that happened at Woodstock 99 happened once because of the of the action of the guys who won’t take credit for anything. The people who actually made it and lied about it still going well - after knowing people couldn’t afford food and water that they had taken away at the door. On day 2, they one and day two they knew they water and sanitation problems and did nothing and lied to the press. BUT, also, one of the promoters downplayed that all 3 Woodstocks were kinda disasters, the first one having deaths, and having to be called a National Emergency like is done for hurricanes and tornadoes. Like some other people, I was stuck there until Monday, after it burned to the ground. I had taken a bus 5 hours there and it didn’t return until Monday 😂 I’m still glad I went. What stories! I saw a lot of other bands no one ever mentions because the weren’t the ones that had the most chaotic crowds. It doesn’t fit the promoters story to blame it on the unruly young people and not their greed. They even try to say it’s the crowd’s fault the fire department didn’t come, when, in fact, the whole area didn’t have a proper fire department for that kind of situation. It was mostly a volunteer fire department up there - farmers. It’s not a city. Those greedy promoters found a spin to blame literally everyone: the musicians, the crowd, the fire department, the people working. I’m sure Jonathan Davis wasn’t happy about how the promoter gaslights children about some of the SA to this day. Korn spoke to this generation of Americans, in particular, because they were latch-key kids. This was more of no one caring. Gen X isn’t even listed on generation lists, now 😂 This was a wild show, though, and I’m glad I was there and survived. I saw the whole thing all the way to the end.

I worked Woodstock '99 as an EMT and with Korn being my favorite band back then, I made it a point to watch their whole set. There were plenty of barriers set up to prevent an onrush to the stage. Though I remember very well of watching this concert live on MTV and, for sure this was maybe the best act ever from Korn. By the way their first appearance in PT was a complete mess not due to the band but due to the conditions in the arena in Lisbon but, their second show here on a music festival was absolutely gorgeous :D

I was lucky enough to be in that crowd and the energy really can't be replicated! That said I think it's important to keep context in mind when watching documentaries about Woodstock 99' , the one's I've see focus heavily on the craziness that sparked off on the final night (due to a lot of reasons, but mismanagement and greed being at the forefront). I in no way mean to diminish some of the egregious atrocities that occurred (including assault) and think it is indeed very important to bring them to light. However I think a lot of the documentaries like to focus only on the violence and the bad conditions and forget to also display the awe and wonder of some of these performances, including the wackiness and creativity on display form the attendees despite the heat and subpar amenities. This event was and remains a touchstone of my past that was life altering and unforgettable. I just wish that others hadn't utilized the chaos to tainted it with harm towards others.

Jonathan was actually sober during this time, but he was still in his first year of sobriety of heavy drinking and meth and the withdrawals and psychological shift you go through during the start of sobriety cab be as much or more intense on your mind and body then being intoxicated on substances. During the start of sobriety from long drug and drinking use cause delirium tremors, depression, suicidal thoughts and extreme paranoia and anxiety. I am speaking with my own experience of such substances and finding sobriety. I believe music, the support from fans and medications was what helped him find himself over time to find happiness with sobriety. And knowing what trauma he's been through and to be able to stay sober and successful and strong is amazing. 🖤🤘

Hi Sabine. It's good to see you react and enjoy Korn. Honestly I always look forward to your reaction to Rammstein (from my top 3 bands) and Korn. bands that practically started around the same time. obviously with different styles. Clearly the level of composition and staging by Jonathan Davis made him one of the best of his style to this day. Although I don't know what NuMetal sounds like in the 2000s anymore. That Woodstock 99 lineup with David Silveira on drums was the best lineup and the best records until Take a look in the mirror. Very good reaction. I would like to see you react to the band Rage against the machine. Maybe to start with Testify live in finsbury 2010. Great band, it's my top 2 bands. Greetings.

Well, I am still recommending "Daddy". You got into the story of "Falling away from me", and "Daddy" is obviously one of those songs in life, you will never forget. It transports a sad and intense story, but in such an emotional and personal way, that it stands out against 99.9% of what is ever released and published. As an artist/musician, I have to say, that I would have SERIOUSLY missed something if I had not heard this song. It absolutely changed my views about the possibilities of musical expression, and going thru the song to the end was a rewarding experience, no matter how hard it may seem at first. It is an example of how far you can go in terms of personal authenticity when creating music. As expressive, as it gets. I also wrote comments about this under "Falling away from me" reaction.

When I first heard Daddy I really wasn't sure what the song was about until years later after many people have told me it was his father but then again people told me it was their families neighbor or family's friend that did it and his parents wouldn't believe him was truly tragic.
