@russellmoore81872 жыл бұрын
It was very much filmed in landscape mode by a real TV camera. But then someone took it and cropped it to phone size, which is indeed dumb. (You can see the fencers' names at the bottom of the screen moving around - in the original they're still, just like every sports broadcast you've ever seen.)

Unfortunately KZbin shorts only allows portrait videos. The algorithm probably won't show you the video if it was in landscape.

Just this past weekend I was watching a bout where the opponents were tied with less than ten seconds left in the last period. One of the fencers saluted, typically an indication that they are willing to back off and let the clock run out. The other fencer then saluted back, and the first guy fleched as his opponent raised his blade and won the bout

Epee fencer here! Sometimes this sort of thing can be deemed as “unsportsmanlike behaviour” and can result in a yellow card but as long as you do it subtlety I don’t see how it would be any different than a regular diversion :)

@@elda9981 Thats what I thought it was, unsportsmanlike. But doing it subtlety would be ok. thanks! :)
@fergusmacleod90362 жыл бұрын
I'll preface this by saying I know absolutely zero about fencing but how is it unsportsmanlike? I'd equate it to a feint or something similar.
@cestcest2 жыл бұрын
@@fergusmacleod9036 i see what you mean, i think that something more subtle would be a feint, but if you were to do something obvious like point off behind them to get them to turn around would be unsportsmanlike.
@A_Simple_Neurose2 жыл бұрын
A feint is something you do with the sword you're baiting a response by faking an attack or something among those lines. Pointing at the ground like as if the opponent's shoelaces were tied to eachother isn't exactly a feint, it's a distraction. And sure, you're trying to defeat the enemy, but you're not exactly allowed to bring in a pocket of dust either, so there's limits.
