"If he had won the contest, he likely would've juat taken the money and quit" That actually sounds remarkedly similar to the philosophy Master Roshi tries to instill in Goku and Krillin during the first tournament arc. I guess Toriyama drew from real life for that plot thread.

Blessed we are to have lived in a timeline where Akira Toriyama became a manga-ka and illustrated for the Dragon Quest series. A big thanks to Torishima and his wife for believing in him and inspiring him when he needed it. Rest well Toriyama sensei. His passion and dedication to his work and fans will live on forever.

I have been watching video tributes for him since his passing. Everything he has ever worked on, I loved dearly. He was my biggest inspiration and my biggest hero in art and storytelling. I will never forget him and I watch these videos as I work/practice, hoping some of his magic will rub off on me. Thank you for this video. And thank you Akira Toriyama... RIP.

Have to say: what pained me is that I have the feeling too many people, especially DBZ fanboys, that never really cared for what Akira Toriyama actually has been: a comedian. You could clearly see it with his initial works, especially with Dr. Slump & Arale where he really went full creative about it. Sure, also the original Dragon Ball at the beginning had light-hearted moments for most part (let's say until the King Piccolo arc), but I rarely saw people actually being considerate over his visions and what kind of creator/author actually was. Not everyone ofc since I saw emotional tributes to commemorate his death, but man. I know after Dragon Ball his next works weren't masterpieces but not bad works either (Cowa was cute, Kajika and Sand were average but enjoyable), but really surprises me that Nekomajin never got his spot while Jaco was directly canonized with Dragon Ball Super. He still managed to keep with the DQ art more as supervisor lately but while still being there to the every end, from what I've understood.

beautiful video on one of the greatest artists, illustrator, designer, story tellers of all time. Toriyama was and always will be an inspiration, a multi-generational talent, more than a genius… a hard worker with an inventive mind. goku and arale are mascots with memorable designs but Toriyama imbued them with a selfless charm, an innocent and curious nature. More than icons they were role models and they represent the heart and power of Toriyama’s work.

The art style of Dragon Quest and Dragon Ball may be different without Toriyama, but the impact he had was absolutely legendary regardless. I hope that whoever inevitably takes over for him does his iconic art justice
@raidomegnuo28685 ай бұрын
Wtf? Dragon Ball wouldn't even exist without Toriyama, it's literally his own original work. Kinda nonsensical to say. Dragon Quest is a full-fledged long-term series done by professional teams with Toriyama adding so much personality thanks to his art.
@dylans.17415 ай бұрын
@@raidomegnuo2868 Dragon Ball's art can be replicated, but Toriyama's writing and character work is pretty much irreplaceable. DB is more than just its drawings after all
