This isn't something you choose. God chooses you to become a priest. If celibacy isn't something you're capable of living out, then He is likely not calling you to be a priest.

It's the Litany of the Saints. The priest or Cantor sings "St. so and so", and the chorus/congregation responds "pray for us." It's repeated over and over with various names of saints. It's part of the Ordination rite, and is also used at Mass or Vespers on All Saints Day (appropriately enough.) There is a Redemptorist parish in Philadelphia that does this before every Mass; perhaps other Redemptorist parishes around the country do it daily or weekly as well.

Pre-Vatican II view is still the same as today. The emphasis would be on priests/bishops acting in the person of Christ especially in the celebrations of the sacraments esp the Eucharistic Sacrifice.

I badly need this type and medium of our formation. sometimes, a lengthy oral catechesis is boring and does not give internal learning and memory retention...thank you father for this very useful and brief video catechism.

A priest cannot perform confession unless the Bishop has given him the authority to absolve sins.
@MissaMelodica2 жыл бұрын
Even though a priest lacks the faculty to hear confessions, he absolves validly and licitly any penitents whatsoever in danger of death from any censures and sins, even if an approved priest is present. Can. 976

No offense Father... but I hope you've learned more about deacons since you made this 12 years ago. Saying they are "assistants" to priests and bishops is an insult to every deacon. In fact, here's what someone with a little more "oomph" than I have thinks about deacons: In the words of St. Pope John Paul II: the deacon is ordained to “sacramentalized service” and to be an “icon of Christ the servant.” In other words, the deacon is a unique living sacramental sign in our midst of Christ the servant, the one who knows suffering and who pours himself out for the good of others. Therefore, the deacon is ordained - he is no longer a layman - into Jesus’ own apostolic ministry. In theological terms, the deacon, like priest, stands “in persona Christi capitas” (in the person of Christ the head). But the deacon does so not as victim and priest, but as servant.
