I think he meant civil marriages that are undergone by Catholics who decide not to get married in accordance with the laws of the Church. Not non-Catholics who get civilly married.

It is about the fact that a marriage outside of the Church and in the Church are fundamentally different. To put it very plain, the first one is a contract, the second one is a sacrament. If looking at it from the Church, doesn't it make sense to differentiate between the two and see them as different? Nobody in the Church looks down upon anyone, at least they shouldn't!! (Pope Francis has again made this very clear). It's not a looking down, it's a different view. I hope this helps.

I agree with this video EXCEPT the fruitful part as if is heaving children suppose to be force. Not everyone can afford it and not everyone have families close enough for them to take care the babies while husband and wife go out and work. (1 Corinthians 7:9) says: But if they cannot control themselves, they should marry, for it is better to marry than to burn with passion. -So marriage here is also imply not just as heaving kids forcefully but also as an enjoyment within the faith.

The couple can get married in the Catholic if one of them cannot (truly) have children. The church is only asking the couple to promise to have (accept) children. That is what marriage is about. The love they have for each other will produce fruit and the church asks the couple to accept that fruit. The video is not completed and letting us hanging with the children question.

I pray that you delve into NFP materials to assist you in achieving pregnancy. My husband and I had a 5+ year span of infertility after the birth of our first son. However, we prayed and read, and charted and TALKED with one another. Although we unfortunately suffered the miscarriages of 2 of our babies we did go on to have 2 more children born healthy. Generally after people join the church or a non Catholic spouse completes RCIA, the couple does plan a Convalidation wedding. Which can be as simple or elaborate as the couple chooses. Good Luck and God Bless.

The priest who married me and my husband called us selfish when we said we'd like to have maybe 1 or 2 children. We explained that we didn't have the money. He went on to say that our 2 prospective children would rather have another sibling than go to college. Seriously?? I was trying very hard not to laugh in his face!! Turns out we have ZERO children after 5+ years of marriage. Guess we are selfish but not by choice, infertility has made the choice for us.

Yeah, there's a woman at my church who got a divorce. her husband would beat her and their kids and stuff. He put them in physical danger, they were worried about being killed, so the church was like... Yeeeeah... He's not living up to the vows he made and he's gonna do some serious damage mentally, physically and emotionally to you and your family etc. So there ARE exceptions, but for the most part, the CC doesn't want you to swear before God and then back out when crap gets real.

@HollyJacqueline - The Church believes that a married couple is to be open to God's will for their complimentary ability to co-create life with Him. While some focus more or only on the creation of human life, there is much more life a marriage can offer to society than a human life (i.e. example of love). The church does allow couples with known reproductive issues to marry, though technically special permission is to be sought. I believe this is to check the intention to marry.

(This does not mean that if you are unable to make a child because of some medical condition or incident, you can not get married through the Catholic lens.)

You're misunderstanding my friend =) Children are not "required" in the marriage. Being OPEN to the idea of children is the requirement. If you get married and then realize you physically cannot have children because you physically can't, that's fine lol. Also look into natural family planning (message me if you want) it's the "natural birth control" that we use (it's not the rythem method, this ACTUALLY works LOL) Yeah, you don't HAVE to have kids,just have to be open to it if God wills it.

There are so many problems with this video. As someone below me said, marriage was, in-fact, an institution before it was ever popularized by the catholic church. There is historical evidence of this and believing otherwise is simply ignoring the facts of history. Making it seem like Catholics were the one to form the foundations of weddings and ones to make it holy is false. First off, Jewish weddings occurred FAR before any Christians even thought of wedding themselves, probably because they DIDNT EXIST, so portraying the church as the good guy here and as the one who made weddings holy is false. Secondly, what is wrong with a civil marriage. The video paints it as something evil and to be avoided. It is possible to have religion in a marriage yet not make it through the church. It is possible to lead a religious life but not make your marriage through the church. There could be issues ranging from religion of your partner to cost to much more. The church needs to grow up and realize that they need to recognize other marriages as valid and stop treating themselves as the end all be all in a progressive world. "Marriage preparation isn't a burdensome hoop the church makes couples jump through"... Yes it is you just said all couples need to go through it so by default all couples need to go through this marriage prep. You made your argument invalid and made yourself look dumb and contradictory. You have the option to use a tool or not. You do not have the option to go through the preparation. There are so many problems with forcing a couple to have kids. According to him, kids are as important as your own happiness as a couple which is completely backwards. Believe it or not, there are those in this world that can not procreate! I know it's a crazy idea. So then, can these people not be wed in a catholic marriage? That would be ableist... There are so many reasons that a couple would not want children, from finances to their living situation to a personal want to not have children. Did you know childbirth is painful!?!? What!? I didn't know. "Asked to openly accept and welcome children into their lives" I didn't know the church was against contraception. "They cannot celebrate the sacrament of marriage" So far this seems like a lot of hoops for the church to give you a piece of paper that says you're married when you can live an equally religious and meaningful life without the church's consent. While I'm on that topic, what if the couple is gay? Oh darn they can't have kids so let's not let them get married even though they might love each other more than the majority of the marriages that exist. How come gays can't be married and people with tattoos can be? The clause for no tattoos and the clause for opposite sex marriage are literally next to each other in the bible. Nice job Catholic church *Thumbs up*. What if your children don't want to be catholic? What if they don't agree with the values that the church preaches because there is literally no evidence of a god or an afterlife, so working towards being a sinless and holy human being simply doesn't resonate with them? Welp apparently the church asks you to neglect their will and force them to be catholic anyways. That's all for now I guess. Hope yall blind religious followers realize some of the dumbness in blindly following religion ^.^ Have a nice day.

I see what the lord is doing. He's putting traditional marriage back in place in his church. Gay people will once again unite with the traditional biblical vows of Ruth & Naomi and David & Jonathan before God and at his alter within the most beautiful church buildings man has made.
