I'm thankful you all put in the theology of headship in there and not just the theology of ministry of the sacraments. Obviously Aquinas taught both, but we know that the latter is more popular now than the former. These videos are very well done.

Transcript: In this session, we will explore the sacrament of Holy Orders, which Christ uses to create leaders for His Church-bishops, priests, and deacons. Our exploration will be guided by the theology of St. Thomas Aquinas and the teachings of the Church's magisterium. To understand Holy Orders, we must recognize the concept of created order. God has designed a hierarchy and chain of being among beings and persons, with certain creatures being higher or more sophisticated than others. These differences serve the common good, glorify God's excellence and diversity, and ennoble us as creatures. God works through these differences, giving certain beings agency and using them to bring about greater goods. In the supernatural order, God also employs hierarchy for the common good. Jesus Christ, being both God and man, is superior to us as mere human beings. He serves as a mediator between God and us, functioning as a priest. Christ offers worship to God, particularly through the sacrifice of His life, passion, and death. Moreover, He bestows the gift of grace from God to human beings. Christ is the only true priest and mediator, being both fully God and fully man. However, through the sacraments, Christ offers the opportunity for us to participate in His priesthood. Three sacraments configure us into a participation in Christ's priesthood: Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Orders. Each of these sacraments imparts a sacramental character, which is a participation in Christ's priesthood. Through baptism, the baptized participate in an initial way in Christ's priesthood, becoming members of the lay faithful. Baptized individuals receive the holy power to receive further gifts from God, especially the sacraments of Christ. Confirmation bestows the priestly power to maturely witness to Christ and His Church. Finally, the ordained clergy receive the sacred power to actively bestow God's grace to others. They serve as Christ's most powerful class of human instruments, responsible for building up and sustaining the Church in the life of grace. The highest act of the clergy is to offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, as it provides Christ's real and full sacramental presence through the Eucharist. Additionally, the clergy administer other sacraments, especially those that forgive sins, such as baptism and penance. The forgiveness of sins allows people to participate in the highest act-the Eucharist. Furthermore, the ordained ministers lead the church community through preaching, teaching, and pastoral governance, all with the aim of bringing people to the Eucharist, which Aquinas considers the high point of life. Within Holy Orders, there are different grades or orders-bishop, presbyter (priest), and deacon. Each grade has different powers and roles. According to Aquinas, these differences are related to supporting the Eucharistic life of the Church. Bishops and presbyters can offer the sacrifice of the Mass, forgive sins, bestow blessings, and preach and lead in the name of Jesus. However, only bishops possess the fullness of Holy Orders and have the authority to ordain other men. Without this ability, there would be no priests to celebrate Mass, making bishops essential for sustaining the entire life of the Church. Deacons, on the other hand, assist in distributing Holy Communion and engage in outreach to the poor, as well as caring for material goods. The sacrament of Holy Orders consists of three levels: the liturgical rite of ordination (sacramentum tantum), the sacramental character configuring the individual to Christ and His priesthood (res et sacramentum), and the sacramental grace conferred upon the ordained (res tantum). The bishop acts as the minister of Holy Orders, laying hands on the head of a baptized male, which signifies the conferral of sacred authority. The ordination prayer said by the bishop specifies the clerical grade to which the man is being ordained-episcopacy, presbyterate, or diaconate. Only baptized males can be ordained since the ordained minister, even in physical gender, must serve as an icon of Christ. Just as it would be odd for a male actor to play a woman's role in a movie, only a man can represent Christ in an official leadership capacity. Through the sacramental grace received in Holy Orders, the clergy are equipped to fulfill their role in acting in the person of Christ. This grace empowers them to serve the laity, the entire Church, and even the world. The clergy's purpose is to serve others and help them serve God. Through ordained bishops, priests, and deacons, Christ works to create saints. In this way, everyone benefits, and the Church is sustained and strengthened. In conclusion, the sacrament of Holy Orders is a vital aspect of the Church, creating leaders who participate in Christ's priesthood and serve the faithful. The ordained clergy, through their sacramental roles and powers, enable the Eucharistic life of the Church, administer other sacraments, and provide pastoral guidance. Their service is essential for the spiritual growth and salvation of the faithful.

I saw the thumbnail of a video once (not of this channel, I guess) that was about how the holy orders were related to the ordination of high priests in Israel. Do you have a video about it or make one?

I'd like to learn more about this because this is how I think, but I have no idea how close to the truth I am: It's not like if there's no temple, sacrifice and priests anymore, but they are all Catholic now: the temple is now the sanctuary with the consecrated hosts; the sacrifice is now the one of Jesus in His flesh and in the Eucharist; the same way, Catholic priests are the new high priests offering the sacrifice in the temple. That's why jews can't rebuild any of these: they are not gone, they are all renewed in Christ - who could do so because He's God.

I see that Fr. Dominic is a Dominican, i.e., a member of the religious order, Order of Preachers. Generally, males enter religious life by first becoming postulants, then becoming novices, then they take first vows, and then they take final vows. Many--though not all--male religious leave religious life when they receive the sacrament of presbyteral ordination.

I hate when the 3 classes of Holy Orders are described as "highest to lowest". They do different things, yet all receive the same Sacrament. It's like saying some who are confirmed are confired from highest to lowest as well. St Pope John said: "the deacon is ordained to “sacramentalize service” and to be an “icon of Christ the servant.” In other words, the deacon is a unique living sacramental sign in our midst of Christ the servant, the one who knows suffering and who pours himself out for the good of others. Therefore, the deacon is ordained - he is no longer a layman - into Jesus’ own apostolic ministry. In theological terms, the deacon, like priest, stands “in persona Christi capitas” (in the person of Christ the head). But the deacon does so not as victim and priest, but as servant."

What is the problem with hierarchy??? The episcopate is higher than the presbyterate, which is higher than the diaconate. The Bishop is set appart for a higher purpose than the Priest and has a greater dignity than him, and both are set appart for a purpose greater than that of the Deacon and have more dignity than him.

@@igorlopes7589 I don't know how you can say that and actually believe it. The president of a company doesn't have a greater purpose than the vice president. They have different jobs and work together to hit a goal. Same thing with priests, deacons, and bishops. Like they say in the video "different roles". Period. And oh goodness, don't even bring "dignity" into it. some bishops have next to no dignity. So by your rule, all their priests have less. Sorry friend, that makes no sense.

The very comment I initially answered was criticizing that the video said "higher to lower". Dignity of the office, not of the person. The office of a Bishop has a greater dignity than the office of a Priest, this doesn't say anything about their human dignity (which is the same) and their personal merits (that as you pointed differ from person to person regardless of their position in a hierarchy)

It is the most terrible tragedy of the entire Church, all over the world, by all of the Christians; that all of the parishioners, don't say Mass for themselves and families and clergy. I'm not ordained by human hands, but trust me in this, I'm Very Very Very Ordained. I taught two protestants how to say Mass in minutes. I told them that I would prove to them that this works, and at 12 PM tomorrow, they would feel a buzzing sensation going through them. "That will be God going through them as I say Mass for them at 12PM," I told them. Exact at 11:55 AM the next day, I felt a buzzing sensation going through my body, like someone was saying Mass for me. They were just believing protestants and unordained, uneducated, and believers in Jesus, Our Lord and Savior. That is all, One male and One female. About 12 years ago, I said Mass for myself, and asked God to give me the knowledge of the future. About 9 years ago, I looked right into the future to see Obama win his election by 281 electoral college votes, "three days," before the voting took place. I immediately spread it all over Twitter and sent tweets off to Nancy Pelosi, MSNBC News, Kelly O'Donnell, Obama about seeing the final vote of 281; and the tweets are still on Twitter under Gary James Shields, on that time line spoken about above. TRUST ME ON THIS ONE. You could have all of the Parishes, all over the planet, praying for you both to live another hundred years with age regressing body's. You could have some praying for you to have Angels with you to talk to, Healing Powers, the Ability to Walk in the Water, To be bullet proof, to be invisible whenever your need to be, to be able to levitate and fly, A N Y T H I N G ! ! ! 500,000,000 Masses all said on the same day for you two; and you would have snapped your fingers and things would have been done for you. There is still time. Time is of the Essence ! ! ! DON'T IGNORE ME ! I Speak from Experience, Verily. Ask me what to ask God to give to you and I will instantly pray and say Mass for you to receive it. Reply to me in this comment section, and I will do it for you. Faith is, replying to this message and telling me what you would want. The rest is up to me and God. Those who call upon the Name of the Lord, shall not be disappointed.
