Lost my cat of 17 years three weeks ago, had him since I was 9. I was (am) more devastated than I ever have been over the loss of a human family member. He died horribly, and it was made all the worse by my other cat yowling for him in the hallway night after night, sniffing around his bed trying to find him (thankfully she's stopped now). They're like babies that don't grow up, aren't they. I'm sorry for your loss

Sorry for your loss, I'm even more sorry it was in a traumatic way. Thank you for giving your cat a long, loving life. I've been feeding strays for years, I hate that I can't bring them all in but my older cat and younger cat aren't friendly and my dog won't leave them alone...plus all the litter boxes, I don't have room for those. It hurts when a stray disappears, i can tell some of these cats use to have homes by the way they act. So I always appreciate when people love their animals for their whole lives.

Had a similar experience when we lost our first Australian Shepherd at 11.5 years, to the horrible cancer called hemangiosarcoma. It was a case of being fine, running around, and happy - then being oddly tired and wobbly the next, and 12 hours later we lost him. Our younger Aussie wasn’t there at the vet for a good bye, and she literally spent the next 6 months trying to find him. Perhaps a bit quieter mourning, but no less heartbreaking for everyone involved.

I feel for you. That's a horrible way to go. We had one who lost her brother, and I wonder if she didn't sicken and die months later missing him. I wonder if I shouldn't have introduced a new cat to the household so she wouldn't be lonely.

Oh no. I am so sorry to hear this. It's always devastating when family cross the rainbow bridge, fluffy and four legged family or not. From Sherlock's point of view, he just had happy day after happy day and at the end, he was surrounded by all the most important people in the world. We should all be lucky enough to end our lives in such a way.

Sitting here with my 18 year old cat purring in my lap -- He is the 4th cat I have had in my 71 years and know he will be sorely missed. Will I get another once he is gone? Yes, my daughter has promised to take care of the new purr motor should he/she outlive me. For me a house is not a home without a cat in it. Blessings on you and your family as you grieve and move. Sherlock will still be with you, they never do quite leave. I lost my Greebo 7 years ago and sometimes I’ll swear I heard him and hear him prowling around. One or two times I swear I felt his weight on my back when I was in bed. It sounds completely barmy but there we go. At any rate, you and your family have my deepest condolences.

When I moved the last two times, I did not only that but numbered the boxes and took pictures of the contents. It's immensely helpful, if you can just scroll through the pictures on your phone, when you're looking for something specific. Especially, if the move isn't a 2 or 3 day job and stuff is maybe going to stay in boxes for weeks or put into storage.

also, don't put all your anvils in one box. I've stopped counting the number of times I've helped people move house, and they have chosen the biggest boxes to put the heaviest things in. small boxes for the heavy things, big boxes for the unheavy things is how it should be.

So sorry to hear! My wife's cat died after 18 years with us--during the pandemic! It was very difficult, so I understand your sorrow. For our cat, she passed in a November. So, the following February I took my wife to a shelter and said, pick one out, Happy Valentine's Day! I wanted a pure black cat--like yours!---I really, wanted a black one. But she fell in love with a blond kitty and that's great! We still miss "Mocha" but the new cat (I call her Yuki for apparently it means, Lucky) is great fun too.

In my youth our family had a totally black cat named Mandy. She was a “rescue” cat. Adult when she joined our family. She died with dignity, at approximately 24 years old. Until her death she LOVED to stalk our half blind dog. She never attacked him and I am fairly certain that he never noticed that he was being stalked. But we delighted in her obvious calculated observations of his movements. I am a committed cat lover, although I have also consistently had wonderful dogs in my life. I sincerely sorrow for your loss. From my experience, cats cannot be less than magical. It is simply their nature.

As an actor I can assure you that, while that suggestion makes perfect sense and absolutely ought to be true, it 100% is not. To Jill: on days when you are recording, you will need to avoid foods that encourage phlegm-which sadly includes coffee, chocolate, alcohol, and pizza (well, anything made with dairy). I'm so sorry for your loss of Sherlock. My black cat, Shadow, lived to be 17. I got my present girls, now 11, a week later, on New Years. I was going to wait until spring, but the silence was unbearable, especially since Shade, her sister, passed six months before her. All my past fur babies remain in my heart. I write on my lounge, with a cordless keyboard and mouse, across from my TV that I use as a monitor, because my cats always slept on my office chair and I didn't want to disturb them. Deepest sympathies for your loss. Valentine's Day will be the first anniversary of the loss of my dog, Dasher. He was a Christmas Puppy in 2010. His brother, Dancer is still with us and has worked very hard keeping us happy in the sad moments when we remember his brother. I hope your other furry family members give you such comfort. Nothing will ever fill the hole in our hearts when we lose them, but they are a great comfort in the time they share with us. Take heart in that in God, all things are possible and surely you will see Sherlock again.
