We were defeated by indavers because our Hindu kings were never united and all were selfish. No one helped maratas but they fought with Abdali like real soldier/kings. Yes it was bad decision to fight like french style due to which Sadashivarao lost this battle. But he was brave son of Hindu. Love him and every marata. You are our only hope. My great respect for all the warriors of Maratha who lost there lives in panipat... In wars and administration you should keep ego and anger aside and think strategically... Sadashiv bhau and marathas were there to protect Mughals. They had achieved that by winning delhi and avenging dattaji shindes death.. They forgot teaching of shivrai and Balaji baji rao that sometimes you have to take one step back to climb higher . Many advisors in Maratha camp warned against going to war and have treaty with abdali and Rohilla.. Bhau made it battle of prestige and combined that with overconfidence of winning delhi .. Where as abdali carefully increased his allies from rajputs , Sikhs to shuja . Nevertheless marathas fought bravely .. After panipat actually nothing changed Marathas within 10 years again won Delhi.. What maratha lost was generation of leaders who would have come handy in dealing with British... Maratha were de facto rulers of India barring 3-4 states had they carefully made the decisions indias history would have been different....

The battle was perhaps India’s greatest military disaster and the darkest day in our history. Who knows what would have happened had the Marathas won, or if they had not ventured out so far from their own homeland without resources or allies. The British East India Company would not have been able to make inroads so easily if Maratha power remained and India would have been spared 190 years of loot and depredations. What if the Rajputs, Jats, Sikhs, Shuja-ud Daulah and other Indian rulers joined the Marathas in their battle against the outsider. But the sad fact is, they did not. @@indiafirst3676 : Bhau travelled over 1000 KM from Pune towards north. His supply lines were cut down by Ahmad Shah Abdali from South after he crossed Yamuna river. Bhau failed to get help from large hearted Sikhs too and Jat king Surajmal due to his arrogance who thought he will win war always. Surajmal also advised to keep 100,000 civilian pilgrims in his kingdom and take only soldiers but Bhau ignored him too. Due to this Bhau's food completed by end of December early resulting in famine in his camp. He had to took weak starved soldiers to fight Abdali without any option left. This resulted his defeat.

@Yudhisthir dharma : Bengalis supported Nawab Aliwardi Khan and not East India company since Maratha invasion of Bengali (1741-51) for 'chauth' looted local Bengali civilians. Marathas soldiers called Bargis under Raghuji Bhonsle and Peshwa killed local civilians of Bengal, burnt villages after villages. It's estimated that Maratha invasion killed 400,000 population in Bengal mostly Hindus. For this sin, god gave Marathas in return after 10 years in 1761 at Panipat by Ahmad Shah Abdali.

@Yudhisthir dharma : I support Marathas since they are Indian sons of soil and Hindu brothers but don't what they did to local civilian population of Bengal for chauth. Bengal would have been blessed if Marathas defeat the Nawab and brings Bengal under Peshwa rule and not harrass the local population but they were only interested in chauth. Great Shivaji Maharaj would never allowed what Peshwa Marathas did killings of hindu Bengali population. Shivaji was a great man of ideology. Try to understand we are not against Marathas but only oppose what they did to Bengal under Bhaskar Pundit and Raghoji.What happened to Maratha men and women in Panipat still fill our eyes with tears. Afghans should never be pardoned what crime they did that day.

This means "When our child sleep, Bargis (Maratha horsemen) come to our land but Bulbul birds have eaten all the rice grains, then how can I pay the Chauth(tax)?". But that zamaana was different than today, so let's forget, we are all same and Indians.

Shadashive was proudy men he doesn't listen any advice of Raja surajmal who fought two war against abdali therefore surajmal left the camp from Badar pur and reached at Ballabgarh fort at night with 30000 nd best army that time the decision was clear They were going to loose their fight with Afghan Within 5 hr. 135000 marahatta were killed by sword and artlary and gun.afterthat 23000people soldiers were captured and become Muslim. Abdaali handover to nawab of bilochistan. Shadashive was alive he ran away from panipat and reached sanghi village in Rohtak Haryana .ch Subha chand Hooda gave shelter to shadashive.samadhiof shadashive is still there .
