I want to say this is my first time watching this podcast, and it's so refreshing to see men be intimate with eachother, sharing their fears and feelings, being empathetic with one another, no toxic masculity, and having intellectual conversations. I hope that more men are inspired by y'all to feel like they can be themselves and share their feelings.

Hey Jordan, this is my second viewing of the podcast and I don't know what is going on with your life and more specifically your mom. However I lost my dad to cancer in October, it was rough and it still is. I miss him every day because he was the one I went to about everything and now he's gone. The best thing I did was be open with my emotions and lean on the ones who matter. I don't want to get parasocial but I hope you have safe people and a safe space to break down when you need it.

Hi I’m so sorry about your dad!!! I’m happy you got to experience some vulnerable moments with him though emotionally, those are the things some ppl never experience in their lifetime so I’m happy to hear you have those memories to cherish and you understood how much love was shared between you guys! As a long time sad boyz podcast girly I will summarize by saying his mum has memory issues I don’t want to speak for him on her diagnosis 100% because I can’t remember and it’s not my place but I know both Jordan and Jarvis have mentioned they don’t read comments because it can get them in an negative headspace so I figured I’d throw that piece of info in there! He goes more in depth about it a couple of episodes, I strongly suggest watching them all whenever you’re sad because even out of the context of time and relevancy of some of the topics it’s still wildly entertaining. Welcome to the community btw!!! 💛💛 everyone in my experience in the comment section has always been very nice and more often than not very vulnerable so thank you for sharing the bit about your dad and again I’m so sorry but sending love!

Man, parasocial relationships are so weird. Obviously I don't actually know Jordan, and he will never even see this comment or know my name or face, but at the same time I had this moment of emotional connection when he was talking about the struggle of not feeling securely set in what he has, and having experienced his worst nightmares firsthand. Though in a completely separate way, I've 100% experienced that sense of fear and insecurity and loss, and only recently am at a place where I feel solid again. He owes us nothing, so I'm incredibly grateful to see him open up about something so vulnerable, that I have felt so alone about for the past 3 years.

As someone who worked in homecare and hospital care in the US, the lack of access to in home care for Americans is heartbreaking. Everyone who needs it should be able to get 24 hour in home assistance for free. So many people die in the hospital when in home hospice or palliative care would have been possible if money wasn't an issue. Doing 24 hour in home care is actually more cost effective from a public health standpoint as well. It costs a lot more money to put someone in a hospital bed than it does to provide in home 25 hour care. The US just doesn't have the infrastructure and foresight to make in home care more accessible. Most in home care is private pay when it is 24 hour. Either that or someone has an incredibly good health insurance plan. From an ethical perspective, allowing someone to die in their home instead of the hospital is so much better for the patient and the family. Being in the hospital is a dehumanizing experience no matter how well staffed and good your care staff is.

abt sir beast: i think its def different with vision stuff but i am thinking back on a video i saw from a deaf creator talking about receiving hearing aids for the first time, and how painful it was to hear the world. that they went to a quiet room on their own to do it and spent the first ten minutes in agony. and they spoke about how this is why theyre so uncomfortable seeing parents film their HOH babies getting hearing aids: because the baby is quite possibly in pain, but youll never know that from watching it, and everyone is just cheering regardless. i sort of wonder if part of the reason why this could be uncomfortable is that. regaining your vision is probably a very emotional experience and might not be all positive, so what would happen if someone opened their eyes and it hurt? would they say that? would mr beast cut it out? this is coming from someone who is very likely losing my vision, just to a diff disorder. (most likely keratoconus but they cant be sure because it only started rapidly worsening recently and i had to get a new doctor after moving.) ofc i want to see as well as i used to. im exhausted that i buy new glasses and within weeks i have to turn font sizes up on everything. reading and looking at light is physically painful to me, but i can hardly see in the dark. it would be amazing to have this fixed. but without surgery (which is likely not an option for me) the only option to correct my vision once it exceeds what glasses can fix is a pair of incredibly expensive contact lenses that are the size of my thumb and made of rigid plastic. most people ive seen who wear them say theyre painful and hard to keep in. some people even choose not to wear them, or go to specialists to have a second, softer lens created (EVEN MORE money) to wear underneath so they can avoid the pain. so like... if my vision gets that bad, as it likely will, am i going to do whatever it takes to see? yes! but is it an easy answer with no turmoil to know ill have to deal with that pain? no!! it sucks!! so i think part of the issue is just that initial response. i dont think cataract surgery would be as complicated to deal with emotionally as this, but it doesnt really say what kind of blindness on the video cover. you also have to remember everybody in that video wanted the surgery, bc i do legitimately know of low vision people who do not take issue with their impairment and see it as a part of their identity, and would not want to be "cured." theres just nuance methinks

ok,, this is just my opinion ofc but i dont think anything can be apolitical. the act of trying to be apolitical is political lol. like you cant pretend we dont all live in a world where our actions and words have consequences. it just bothers me that some ppl cling to being apolitical,, its cowardly imo. it shows how little those ppl really care abt politics in general if theyre willing to throw them to the side constantly yk again just my opinion but i feel v strongly abt this. im queer and trans and neurodivergent. just by existing im seen as inherently political, so i cant just ignore this shit. thats why im so passionate abt it, but i understand why some, esp rich, ppl have a hard time standing up for what they belive in since im sure they know its not popular

@jarjarchared
@jarjarchared Жыл бұрын
I think it might be less complicated than many people think. There is definitely a fatigue associated with caring/being engaged in politics and an amount of physical time that goes along with that. Many people are busy/wrapped up in their own world and I would venture to say that Mr. Beast being a full time creator fits that bill entirely. There are literally millions of things that a person can be worried about in a day. So much so that I we tend to shut it out as tending to each would just induce paralysis. Caring about basic human rights is the baseline that I set for myself but it's much more shallow for others. I don't see the Mr. Beast thing as a problem as far as it's doing some good for people and he's working within the shitty system that is our society and political system. I don't expect all people to be political but it's refreshing when it does happen. If that's not their regular style of content, (making political statements) I can and have seen how they would be accused of being performative like has happened here in my opinion. This forces them to shut down and think twice about delving anywhere near that arena again. Give-a-fucked can be lethal in high doses to those who haven't built up a tolerance.

@unseenmolee
@unseenmolee Жыл бұрын
@@jarjarchared ok so first, it *is* complicated. politics are a mess and esp when you get to reading thru actual policies or trying to listen to politicians, yeah its a lot. i do agree its overwhelming and intimidating even, however thats not an excuse imo? politics isnt just what happens in the white house, its literally everything. this conversation, the car you do or dont drive, the money you earn at work, you cant divorce any of this from politics, its all one in the same. clinging to being apolitical tells me that that person likes things the way they are. they see no need to investigate why things happen as they do because those ppl simply dont care. and to an extent i can sympathize with not wanting to think abt how bad the world really is, but i dont think its helping anyone/anything but this system. because the less ppl know how to talk abt it the less ppl care at all to even try to think abt it, the more power the systems in place have over us. ill say it again; im queer and trans. i am immediately made political by virtue of being in the LGBTQ+ community. thats not something i asked for or wanted. if i could id want to just be able to live without having my identity up for debate, but i dont have that privilege. and until EVERYONE, not just queer ppl, but white cis het ppl, can stand up for minorities and *politics*, nothing will change. im passionate abt politics because its literally my life on the line
@jarjarchared
@jarjarchared Жыл бұрын
@@unseenmolee I'm a PoC and I get where you're coming from. However, I think you're not looking at this realistically. Take the example of buying a car. That can for sure be political especially with how environmentally friendly or not a car is. If I have $1000 to spend on a new vehicle because mine broke down, I don't give a crap if it gets 10 miles to the gallon if I have 2 choices and the other one has problems starting but gets better mileage. I'm choosing the gas guzzler. Making issues black and white like if you're not the perfect ally or for the cause you are actively killing someone is obtuse and short sided. You take help for the cause where you can get it. If someone is TRYING to understand things and they don't get it right you can explain how you see things differently but be nice about it. You can be assertive with your beliefs and values without being militant. You'll get a lot more support that way.

i can agree with jarvis that people cant be critiqued for being apolitical, but in this situation i think the main thing for me isnt the fact that mr beast didnt publically criticize american healthcare, its that he used the people who that system is fucking over for content. and theres the argument that its because he's a good person or whatever but if that were the case he wouldnt need to post it and get thousands of comments praising him about being a good person. if i was a person who was blind and had been for most of or my whole life, and i was filmed and posted for millions of people at an intimate moment, looking back with vision i think that would feel violating and exploitative. i dont know, public acts of charity will always rub me wrong. its an unspoken contract that you submit to being public entertainment in order to have a basic human right like housing or healthcare or whatever it may be. it feels wrong.

what i don't understand is why/how people manage to not think about the world at large until they're fully grown adults who have been contributing to society for years, and what, they just don't think about it? am i just autistic? what is going on? because in my view, Mr. beast is a fully grown man who should already understand the socio political/economic conditions that got people to the place of needing his help, and the ramifications of what he's doing as well as the message these things send. i think he is fully responsible for what he's doing and i dont think we should be affording him so much grace about it. i'm also pissed that he followed up that tweet with some self aggrandizing shit about how generous he is and about how twitter just "thinks he's bad". i'm really tired of being told to give grown ass people so much room to figure this out, particularly the ones who are prominent/important
@mahmeme
@mahmeme Жыл бұрын
No, I'm definitely with you, there's things that people should be understanding of for young people in their 20s, but as someone who is only one year younger than Mr.Beast I am very aware of things going sociopolitically, and with the access to knowledge at our fingertips, he shouldn't really have an excuse to not know this. I won't fault him necessarily for not thinking critically about the system of charity in general because most people don't realize that a lot of the industry is looking out for their own longevity, but he should at least recognize that he shouldn't be needing to gift basic surgeries because of the abysmal healthcare in this country.

yess this is what I was thinking. like I'm sure he's naive on some level, but that in no way lessens the seriousness of his actions. he can still be held accountable for the consequences of the content he chooses to create. he himself has said that he thinks about youtube 24/7, so every video he makes has intent and loads of planning behind it, and his main priority is always engagement and retention. regardless of what he may claim about "wanting to change the world". he is not oblivious, I really don't think anything can be excused here by saying "well he's young" like I feel like that's a different conversation. sure he prob has a lot to learn about how to think critically about the structure of our society and the conditions it creates (that allow him to grow his brand) and how to create systemic change (which he DOES have the power to do) but I feel like that's not enough of a reason to minimize the harm he perpetuates. he KNOWS that charity type videos are great for engagement, he has admitted that himself. like we can recognize that mr beast is a symptom of a larger problem and also criticize his specific actions at the same time
@ritac9769
@ritac9769 Жыл бұрын
For folks who like to think you are "aware of the world" etc., you are all having a hard time understanding that other people can possibly have different paths in life and rates of growth, and different views of understanding. You yourselves as are not fully realized people and guess what? You never will be because people are not static or monolithic. You can think that you would do things differently if you were in the position of Mr. Beast but in actuality you have no way of knowing. Adolescence brain development ends in an age range. There isn't a day you wake up and are fully grown, and psychology and emotional development certainly diverges much more than physiological development. Some people never grow up and are never more than a little aware, some people are too aware from an early age. People need to be accountable for their actions at any age, but there's no such thing as "grown ass people". I don't know anything about Mr. Beast but the fact that he is open to hearing new thoughts and opinions already makes him more mature than many people older than him in the public and private sphere. I think the main issue is that when you hit your 20s and think you know it all so you stop growing and learning. Never think you know everything because you'll always be wrong.

Agreed. Im 23 and have put so much time and effort into learning about the experiences of others and re-training my brain to consider situations besides my own, that to hear people talk about someone older than me as effectively being "too young to understand" really ruffles my feathers. Look, i understand i am young and dont know everything and cant prepare for every possibility, but i DO know enough to not imply to an audience of millions that disabled people need to be "fixed" (with the help of ableds no less) to lead fulfilling lives. People really need to stop treating that guy like he's Jesus. Its getting old

I got braces at like 26/27... i had a front canine that was behind my row of teeth and a slew of other problems of "too many teeth not enough room." But ever since braces I've been grinding my teeth super bad. I've woken up my husband sleeping from the sheer sound of it. It only happened during/after braces and my orthodontist was just like 'No. That's not a thing." Just ignored it ??? Years later with a different dentist in a different city he comments about how grinded down ALL OF MY TEETH ARE. It could be unrelated, whatever, just be aware is all. I don't regret the braces I just wish I had an orthodontist who actually listened.

He tries to make rich philanthropy look like a good thing meanwhile the majority of the time it’s not at all, Mr Beast isn’t coming to save everyone- I don’t care that he does this, I just wish he didn’t try to act like he’s some Jesus figure, and he fills the news with these heartwarming stories and it distracts from real life issues- He acts like he’s the solution to everything, and he gets really defensive when you say otherwise. Edit: in her video Tiffany brings up some of your exact points aswell so she probably has better responses to what ur saying than me 😅

No offense you can’t be apolitical about human rights but cool Love y’all anyway Like I don’t think people who want to have thicc thoughts about this kind of thing should censor ourselves so we don’t spook people who’re still unable to imagine anything beyond the current systemic issues. I’m not gonna individually blame people for where they’re at in a state I spent like. Most of my life in. As long as they’re not actively harming other people. But like. I’m not gonna stop having this kind of debate in public spaces bc that’s part of what helped get me out. People literally won’t see shit if they don’t want to or they’re not ready. And that’s fine.

The only thing abt “I don’t understand why the systems are the way they are” is it’s kind of rich (hh) to say that as a billionaire, when you _are_ a beneficiary of the direct cause and effect between the reason people can’t afford healthcare. First time listening to a Sad Boyz podcast. As a fellow sad boy, I love this. I really hope you read this Jarvis: you're a great person! A genuinely decent human being. I've watched you for many years and I love that not only comedy is the core of who you are, but so is decency. You're always conscious of how your words/viewpoint handles people and social issues. You're very careful to not offend anyone and I wish more content creators and just people, in general, cared that much about everyone else's feelings. The world would literally be a better place. Also, I love Jordan. He's amazing and so sweet! I'm so happy things are looking up for him!
