Induced by COVID IN 2021 I have been mesmerized by Sade and her most magnificent voice for so long now and like so many of you I am blessed by a fresh new loving offering from her My mother too was the only one who urged me to and allowed me to shine my light. One of the most emotionally moving songs I have heard in a long time. Even before I watched the video or knew what it was about, the song itself made me tear up. But then when I read online that it is a tribute to her son, and watched the video, I just broke down in tears. This is what art should do. To speak to the times. It must be so hard for an artist and their loves ones to share something so personal, but in doing so, it has the power to teach, to illuminate, to heal. @@prettypoissonher son was born a female. They both didn’t understand that he wanted to be a man. Being trans isn’t something most people understand about themselves until later on. So she dressed him as a girl bc that’s what you do as a parent raising a child you understand at the time to be your daughter. As the child grew up and figured out they wanted to transition sade realized this and came to understand her daughter was actually struggling all along and she felt sadness for not being able to understand sooner.

It's something about a mother's (or father's) love and acceptance... if you don't have theirs, you feel like you can't ever have anyone's. But you CAN. It's hard to know who to trust and if love is real... or what real love even IS, when you've never gotten it. Or when what we were told was "love" really wasn't. We tend to develop a deep belief that we will never be loved and that we don't even deserve to be loved. But we DO! We deserve love and acceptance!! PLEASE believe there IS love for YOU in this world! Please try to somehow get access to a good counselor or a good support group who can help you to navigate this. I too have been isolated, alone, and unloved before. My mother could never really love me. I've been in abusive relationships and friendships that I thought were love but weren't. I was so lucky to finally be able to get access to a good support network that helped me know how to love and care for myself first, and then be able to go forth with healthy boundaries, be able to tell who loves in a healthy way, and accept the love of these healthy minded people. Instead of pushing good people away because I didn't feel worthy and I didn't trust that love could be real. Recognizing and sharing real love is a journey and a process. This reminds me of the mid 80’s when I was a kid being brought up by mam in a single parent household! We struggled with life but there was always love !!! She used to play soul music to me as a kid and I would look at her records and for some reason I always loved Sade and my mam told me we had the same birthday and it made me feel a small connection to her ! And now ima adult who loves soul music and for all these years Sade is still my favourite musician!!!! This is a mother’s love for their child in the transition of life as they grow and we grow with them!! ❤ As u may or may know her daughter transitioned a few years ago . As a mother this is a pain to witness those who are not accepted by their first loves the way you need and those of us who go thru it knows when a mother does not accept their children as they present themselves this does the deepest damage to their little souls.
