Thanks for making this great video incorporating Eventide effects and Split EQ! I've always been a fan of theirs and use their products, but seeing your approach to vocals using their stuff was was very eye opening.

Hello, I started recently to produce in my home studio... I would like to take to mix my piece in a studio but I’m asking myself a question for weeks: but the automations like the cutoff on the tracks I have to do me or the mix engineer? and then some vocals in the background of the singer I have to do them myself (even if my mic is not the best) or does he do them during recording?

Record it again, unfortunately. The only other thing I've found to help is to subtly reduce the fidelity (via mix bus reverb etc) of the rest of the mix to better "blend" it with a less than stellar vocal.

It basically starts playing with the high energy phrases in vocals to saturate in a pleasing way. Where you don't get that ear piercing highs but saturated highs .Which only takes place when it hits a certain threshold. I don't know if am wrong.
@AvelliVEVO
@AvelliVEVO Жыл бұрын
I got you, so basically hit the plus ➕ and add New Envelope Follower, then under the box where it’s says EF 1 click the arrow new to it & select Fast Transients. Now adjust the drive . Then adjust the mix to your liking. Make sure to turn on Linear Phase and High Quality.

The only problem I have with these tutorials are that the Vocals are already well recorded. However the basics concepts can also be learned. I would recommend you use a vocal that was recorded by an amateur in there bedroom for example which would be a good example.

@@RafaelBernatto there is never a good or bad vocal... any vocal can be edited or rather mixed by a good mix-engineer to sound nice but there are vocals that has the extrasss like the vibrato, runs, licks and trills and more but it doesn't mean those without such has a bad vocal...

I feel if nothings there then it can’t hurt to cut them or leave them I just think cutting them helps create space for other frequencies in that area to live in the long run… but idk just a thought
@Six2Nine

In my opinion mixing is not creating space fpr other frequencies but putting them together.

Great advice, but please don't add reverb when you're just comparing the EQ changes as it can create lots of confusion and false understanding of mixing. Your EQ settings are good enough themselves.
