I live in caseville and fished my whole life but never have really lake trout fished Im more of a walleye and perch kinda guy but after last night I was very discouraged, we actually seen you and said hello on our walk out. Needless to say we left stumped after watching everyone catch fish on either side of us so my buddy turned to KZbin lastnight and found your videos and we remembered your go pro you had on and put to and to together.. this was very hepful video and your shoreline fishing video on the saginaw river will come in handy that's a whole new world to us.. thank you very much we need more videos like this..

I’m glad you like the videos! Don’t be too discouraged about the tough fishing yesterday. It seemed like the afternoon bite was a little slow for everyone. I only caught one fish myself. I think the laker bite happens in flurries and the best is usually right away in the morning. But you can definitely pick up fish throughout the day. Keep putting in time and you’ll land on em when they’re hot!

Nothing like colder weather fishing to beat the crowds. Such a great day on the water and beauty lakers. Dropped you a 👍

I'm a Florida native and not really a fan of the cold but for some reason when winter gets here and it's bitter cold I head to the river and slay steelhead all day long and it doesn't bother me.

Thats a strike king Chrome Sexy Shad I caught lakers on this thanks I did exactly what you did and it worked

How deep is that water around where you were catching them? Just wondering if trailing from my kayak is an option.
@SecondFloorOutdoors-gj8dt2 ай бұрын
The river channel is only 10-12 feet deep. Wear an immersion suit, that's an unusually calm day and that water is going to be just above freezing.
@Caitybear3964 ай бұрын
Hey what size was this strike king sexy shad they have three sizes 1/4 oz (2 inches) 3/8 oz (2 1/4 inches) and 1/2 oz (2 1/2 inches) you didn't state in the video what size this lipless was so I'm just curious

Do you guys ever get big Lakers there? And how deep is that water thanks!
@BenBreaker Жыл бұрын
This year there was a 40” fish caught, but the average is typically the mid 20-inch range I would say. The water is actually quite shallow along the breakwall, I would say the channel is typically 10-12 feet deep.

Nice vid! What kind of line are you using? Is that a rippin rap?
@BenBreaker5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I use 10lb Suffix 832 braid with a 10lb fluro leader. The bait was a 1/2oz Red Eye Shad made by Strike King but its very similar to a rippin rap. I’d swap out the stock rippin rap hooks for some that are larger/heavier if I was going to throw for lakers as the hooks they come with are a little small for me.

Hey Ben what kinda rod reel line u working with
@BenBreaker3 жыл бұрын
Personally I prefer St. Croix rods, for this type of fishing specifically I like a 7ft medium power rod. For reels I like the Abu Garcia Revo X’s and I pair that up with 10 or 12 pound Suffix 832 braid and a 12 pound flurocarbon leader. Hope this helps!

Is that an Avid X rod? Where did you find that, it’s nice?
@BenBreaker3 жыл бұрын
Yep! I typically order directly from the St. Croix website, although I have been to the company store a couple times.
@erichardie52473 жыл бұрын
@@BenBreaker is there a company store here in Michigan?
@BenBreaker3 жыл бұрын
@@erichardie5247 no unfortunately the only dedicated store is at the factory in Park Falls Wisconsin. I know Cabela’s typically has St. Croix rods but the selection can be a bit limited in-store.

Gave you a big thumbs up and subscribed! Those Lakers are awesome fish. The mouth on that last one..geez! Do they gorge before it freezes? I know browns do that before winter. Caught several with 10-12 inch rainbows in their mouths. Greedy dudes. Come check us out if you get a chance. Merry Christmas from CA!
