With any crack, drill a hole at both beginning and ending. The size of crack is the size of bit so you can catch the top and bottom of your crack. You will never stop the crack without the drill holes! Good luck with your repairs! It looked like the anti corruption nut at the end of prop.

I sell that paint. We mostly use red on the wood oyster boats here. 100 year old boats. Works great except for on the running gear. Anything metal tends to get barnacles. These boats sit except during oyster season. They are big boats and take 10-12 gallons. Yours came out nice. Safe travels!

Thanks for watching! Actually we’ve rarely had any bug issues in the 3 years we’ve been sailing the Caribbean. 99% of nights the breeze and being away from shore at anchor keeps the bugs away. On shore in the boatyard…different story!

No to underwater lights. Never put unnecessary holes in a hull. Buy waterproof led strip lights and dangle them in the water when you need them.

Yeah, I tend to agree, at least below the waterline. I might add some simple down lights above the waterline that only require one small through-hole for the wires.

This brings back so many memories... A few years back, I hauled my 45' cat to do the bottom (and a long list of extras). I sure remeber that feeling of TWO hulls. Cat's are great until you do the bottom sanding and painting. Then I'd have given anything to have a monohull. Less draft on the cat to sand and paint but having to do it TWICE really plays with your head. Well, it did mine anyway. Great job guys. Oh, by the way, sanding and painting was the ONLY time I wish I'd had a mono, the rest of the time the cat was by far the best. Once you get her dialed in you'll never look back. 🖌

Very good news there weren't any significant bottom issues. I was surprised (even though it never appeared in the videos) that you didn't haul it for an inspection. I was watching another channel - Refit and Sail - doing a refit on a Contessa 32 (my dream boat) when he came across a crack on the bottom of the keel. Of course, it's a boat with an encapsulated ballast, so maybe it's not a terribly significant issue to fix (haven't made it to that episode yet.) Again, great videos.

Thanks! Yeah, our buying situation (and selling situation) led us to a pretty unconventional buying process. I wouldn't recommend it, but being down here in the Caribbean while trying to buy a boat and sell a boat, you can't always do things in the right order.

@@SailAwayVlog I see that it is expensive, have also seen a lot of issues with application. We are looking at this and silicone, still think when done right, would be much cheap in the long run.
@douglasrobbie9998

Looks great. Ablative the only way to go, though higher speed of cat may ablate it faster. So long as it has reasonable copper content you'll be good and fouling in Charleston will be mild. Amazed that seacock did not leak. Better to have raised bottom paint level vs. issues with decorative bootstripe. If the cat still has gelcoat, I'd go for buffing and sealing, as once you paint, you/owner will need to renew every 7+ years. I would think wave action will wash off any acid wash left. Newer underwater lights do last longer and they are fun at night and attractive fish, but you have more important items to spend your $s on. One question - do the diesels have sleeved cylinder walls? I've seen a bit of what looks like excess smoke in exhaust and would think inplace valve reseating and resleeving (if possible) with new piston rings would help renew engine. In place in this instance does mean raising engine up in engine room to remove oilpan and removing pistons. Might do cylinder head gaskets at same time, but that's a lot more work/ breakdown..
@SailAwayVlog
@SailAwayVlog Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! Unfortunately, the gelcoat is pretty shot in a whole lot of areas. We can make it look pretty decent, but it'll need painting at the least to get it looking really good. It'll definitely do for now! Not sure about the diesels, but the smoke is only for about 30 seconds max right when we start them.
@douglasrobbie9998
@douglasrobbie9998 Жыл бұрын
@@SailAwayVlog Sorry about going on about a top overhaul. If in fact your engines do have cyl liners the renewal is DIY doable. Get the old ones out shrinking them with dry ice for a few minutes and new liners in after a few hrs in freezer. If it is just smoke for 30 secs that is more indicative of injectors needing cleaning/renewing as poor spray pattern or fuel drips after shutdown. So long as you are not losing coolant, it is not a head gasket. Neatest DIY method of cleaning injectors I've seem involved a tire rubber valve stem with valve removed, valve cap, a can of carb cleaner with little red straw and a small 12v bat to open the injector valve. Paint has improved over the years and two part with UV inhibitors is better. So long as you can spray it, you have a lot of white colored real estate on that cat. Again I've gone on too long....
