Well that's the sort of sailing I want to stay away from, any sailing that involves swimming, is not for me. Bruno is the man though! He just laughs and keeps on sailing. Pretty cool adventure. I'd love to see you go ashore in Lisbon, and shoot some footage there. To you it's normal, to me it's exotic and beautiful. Take care Teo.

Hi Chuck! I try to stay in the boat as often as possible but sometimes it just happens! 😁 Bruno is a happy chap, a real pleasure to sail with! and ofc he grew up around sailing boats and is still in the Navy btw, so he's an experienced tough sailor! Unfortunately we can't go anywhere atm!! Maybe next season I could "explore" Lisbon close to the river, plenty of beautiful places there....😉

I'm at home with Covid and I'm enjoying all your videos, so much so that I'm almost tempted to build a GIS.
@TheBoatRambler4 жыл бұрын
Hi Vincenzo! That would be amazing! But if you don't build a GIS, just build the boat most appropriate for what you want to do with it! It's really rewarding in the end! If not, just get sailing and have fun! 😉 Stay safe!

I really enjoy your videos , well done you have grate fun in your GIS which I understand. I am building something smaller (14 foot) similar but also something slightly different. I look forward to your next capsize test when the water warms up a bit! Tim

Thank you Tim! The boat size doesn't matter as long as it's fit for the purpose and you have fun with it! Good luck, and keep us posted on your build! Teo

Your videography equip/skills have improved hugely.

Thanks Michael! when I started the build I didn't know much about editing or filming. The cameras are still basic Yi's and Gopro's. I just started shooting at 2.7K 60fps resolution instead of 1080 30fps due to faster paced action. It used to take me 6-8 hours to edit each weekly video from the workshop stages. Always thought it would take less with time and practice. well... The more I learn the more things I need to edit/fix like audio levels, color corrections, equalization, sync all cameras etc. It now takes me around 20 hours to edit a 10 minute video!! 😅

After you put the reef in I thought‘maybe 2?’ Great video as always.
@TheBoatRambler4 жыл бұрын
Hi Col! We needed to go against a really strong tide and even with only one reef on we didn't do too good. The wind wasn't too strong, the problem were the powerful gusts which became more frequent and stronger creating big chop after the tide changed. If I had two reefs on I'm not sure there would be enough power to drive the boat trough the swell. I was stuck between a rock and a hard place there for nearly two hours or so! 😅 We usually trust that in the worst case scenario the tide will "bring us home"... but not against a wind like that it wouldn't! 😬 But all good! At least now I know Forager is well sturdy!! 😁
@colrodrick87844 жыл бұрын
@@TheBoatRambler tidal waters are ‘interesting’ aren’t they. Linda and I spend a lot of time on the big coastal rivers along the north of NSW. After bitter experience trying vainly to go against the tide, we now always time our cruises to work with the tides, or to align with slack tide. Wind you can work with, generally, but a rushing tide is a powerful force. When the kids (and I) were younger I was still patrolling at our local beach. Our biggest issues were always tourists who knew nothing about rips. Impossible to fight against, but a quick ride out the back.
@TheBoatRambler4 жыл бұрын
Yes the tide here is quite strong on all but the smallest tides. But we either stayed at the (fishing) marina for hour and a half or take our chances! Sailing is more fun! At least we had something to laugh about... afterwards! 😁
@colrodrick87844 жыл бұрын
@@TheBoatRambler that’s often the best part. The number of times we would reconstruct a race with what ifs. Sailing schooners around the bar cannot be counted. NB A schooner is a beer glass size in NSW, so a good way of saying you’re going to have a drink and tell tales I guess a bit less than 2 metric cups 425ml from memory, whatever 15 fluid ounces is before we went metric in the mid 70s

Is there anyway to ease the vang,main sheet, etc to move the sail to preferred angle, while underway?
@TheBoatRambler3 жыл бұрын
Hi Gene! On my GIS the vang controls both the luff and the leech tension and this balance is usually set with sail down. I can control downhaul tension underway but it affects both. Some GISs have more complex setups with separate lines for luff and leech tensions and these can be changed while underway. I have all control lines run to the mid seat so that I can easily reach them, no cleats on my boat for the mainsheet as I keep it on my hand at all times.

Also, your friend’s skiff has a jib sail. How easy is it to sail with 2 sails?
@TheBoatRambler3 жыл бұрын
It's alright because we aren't racing, and ofc depends on weather conditions, although the furler helps a lot with that.
