Hey everyone! Here's another exciting episode detailing our 3,000 mile trip through Southeast Alaska on our 37' sailboat, Maya.
We start the episode just after arriving on Coronation Island, where we spend a few days enjoying Egg Harbor, Windy Bay, Alikula Bay, and Warren Cove on Warren Island.
In the second half of the video we fish the North side of Noyes Island- anchoring at Garcia Cove, Hole-in-the-Wall, and Steamboat Bay before making our way to Craig, Alaska (Pop. 1200) to prepare for our longest passage to date... a 6 day non-stop sail from in Craig, Alaska to Neah Bay Washington. Lots of great fishing in this episode so I think the anglers in the audience will enjoy.
Thanks for stopping by and we hope you enjoy the episode.

Very nice. You guys are one of only two couples sailing/cruising channels I watch, the other being "Life is like sailing". Zero couples drama, no partying, no gratuitous T&A...just sailing/ cruising, fishing and wildlife. Thank you.

@@CruisingMaya 100% agree on the refreshing change from drama, partying, T&A. I'm thoroughly enjoying the channel. Side note, it took 4 tries to spell thoroughly right. And a google, ha ha.

Great video, and glad to see you had success landing some salmon! When you are back fishing for salmon in the PNW, try keeping the boat in slow forward when you land a salmon. I have found much better luck when I keep the boat going slowly ahead as it will keep your line taught longer. Send the person playing the fish a little further ahead on the boat so that the person who is handling the net can scoop up from behind the fish. If you scoop from the side or ahead, it will scare the fish away and offers more chance for it to shake free of the hook. I think you might loose less fish at the surface if you employ those tactics :) Really looking forward to your offshore passage in the next episode, and your journeys to Mexico, too! Cheers!

Great tips! We will be sure to employ these tactics next time were salmon fishing! You'll be happy to hear the fishing in Mexico had been AMAZING. Looking forward to sharing our experience in Mexico! Cheers from the crew!!

I tried playing Strauss waltzes to some dolphins, and one of them came and swam alongside for a while, until he lost interest and swam off. Cetaceans definitely respond to music.

what's your favorite eating fish in Alaska so far?
@CruisingMaya
@CruisingMaya 2 жыл бұрын
I think halibut is my favorite. Jenny made this "heavenly halibut" recipe and it was like one of the best things I've ever eaten. We still talk about that meal! I don't think this is the exact recipe she used, but I think it's similar. www.keyingredient.com/recipes/1213165042/heavenly-halibut/

how many of those fish can you keep as an Alaska visitor?
@CruisingMaya
@CruisingMaya 2 жыл бұрын
My apologies I don't recall the fish limits. Salmon and halibut were somewhat restricted, but I think most other species you could keep quite a few.

How do you guys go about choosing all the spots you stop at? do you have things planned out before you stop?
@CruisingMaya
@CruisingMaya 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Tim! No plan at all. We just let the trip and our travels unfold naturally. We ended up in Craig because it was a good place to launch south from, but we found the fishing spots and anchorages after talking to fishermen at the docks. They suggested those fishing spots so off we went! We really try to not make plans when it comes to cruising- leaves a lot more flexibility. Thank you again for attending the premier! We so appreciate your viewership!
